Yes, I noticed they made the change too. If my older version ever fails, I plan on replacing it with whatever version is available. Thanks for adding about the updated version!
Excellent. Thanks. However, you should mount it quite a bit higher, even 10 feet is kinda low. They recomment these things be mounted 30 feet high! But, for most home people, this is impractacal, but it really should be at about 10 feet.
Thank you. That is one of the quandaries of having many mature trees and outbuildings. Even if I placed this on top of a flagpole or 10 feet above a two-story house, the large mature trees would still block it. Currently, it is a compromise with it currently getting a clear shot from the north and west and below the canopies of the large trees to the south.
I just received my Wh2320 station but the diagram saus the wind speed cups go on the top not the bottom like yours. Still having trouble getting the outdoor unit to transmit data.
Hi. Yes, I believe the new version of this weather station has the wind cups on the top. I am sorry you are having issues. Mine has held up well, even with a tornado not too long ago! I found their support pretty quick prior to Covid-19. I am not sure if the support email is still current but the one I used was ecowittweather@outlook.com. Another helpful place is the WXForum at www.wxforum.net/index.php?board=111.0
Can you explain me this weather station is identical at froggit WH1080 se? I wonder why there are the same weather stations on the market but of different brands, can you tell me why?
Hi. I believe Fine Offset manufacturers the weather stations for multiple resellers...like Ecowitt, Ambient, Froggit, etc. I am not sure how interchangeable the parts and software are though. www.foshk.com/Wifi_Weather_Station/
Have you ever taken note of the bandwidth requirements to upload to WU or Weathercloud. I am looking at installing one of these at an RC flying field and I have to use a WiFi hotspot due to lack of wired or fibre optic internet service. Mobil data is not cheap here so I am trying to figure out what my monthly usage will be like.
Hi. I have never really made note as to how much data is transferred to WU (and also Ecowitt.net at the same time). I do not have a webcam so that is probably helpful. I have never noticed a slowdown on my network with broadband. I know Ecowitt does have a 3G Cellular Wireless version of this weather station here: www.ecowitt.com/weather_station/6.html
I am using a Froggit WH3000 (which is also one of the Fine Offsets, as is the one in the video). The data is pushed every 16secs or so, and I see a couple of hundred K a day. Be aware that I may not have the correct data accounting on my stupid router, but I get around 800-1200kB per day. I submit data to EcoWitt, Weather Underground and also Weathercloud.
Unfortunately, freezing rain and wet snow will lock down the unit's wind and rain reporting. However, I believe that is normal for most stations. I am not aware of any that can report snow, but there are some with heaters if you have access to power. That said, my WH2320E is still going strong at four years old. It is yellowed some with age and from being in the elements, but it has held up well and is still being used for my WU site.
Will the sensors download data through the console to a desktop pc weather program like EasyWeather or Cumulus since there is no USB connection? I have a Davis and it uses the USB from the console to the PC but I want a second station for when we are on the road in our motorhome.
There is WeatherSmart IP software for this unit. However, it is for Windows only so I have not tried it (I use a Mac). Here is the link: www.ecowitt.com/weather_station/3.html I do use their GW1000 USB Wi-Fi Gateway that reports to Ecowitt.net and that works well. However, your WiFi needs an internet connection. Link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JLRFG24/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 I did search for third party software that would work with my Mac and without the direct USB port it did not look likely there will be software made for it. Fine Offset does have a Mac version for a similar station but it did not work for me (I tried!).
I’m in the market for a weather station, so I’m watching reviews and stumbled onto yours. I’m also in Ohio (Akron area) and I’m curious how yours does in the winter. How well does it function when it snows? How about freezing rain? I’d probably attach one on my roof, so I’d want one that could function or at least survive all four seasons.
Hi, My station handled the extreme cold for two seasons well. I did make sure I had lithium batteries installed. Since there is no heater, the wind and rain gauges will freeze with freezing rain. I am not aware of a home weather station that will measure snow (unfortunately) so any moisture below freezing is not normally measured. Once the sun or temperatures rise, everything still works. My station survived our SW Ohio Memorial Day 2019 tornado outbreak when three of my roofs did not!
I just got this and while I like it, I have problems with it. The rain guage doesnt display and the connection to weather underground worked at first but the app stopped after a few days...so I'd give it like a 3 star for these reasons
Hi. There was a firmware update release just a few days ago (May 2019). I think WU made some changes behind the scenes. The firmware is updated via the Ws View app. I hope this helps!
I am sorry you are having issues. This unit is still going strong; fortunately, I have not had to deal with their support for several years. That said, I have found this forum very helpful and active. There are a lot of other Ecowitt users that may be of assistance: www.wxforum.net/index.php?board=111.0
Hi, I noticed that on your wunderground data you have switched to acurite, any problems on the ecowitt? I plan to purchase this model soon. Thanks for your video.
Hi. Thanks for noticing this! Recently, my rain gauge was not reporting during a heavy, sustained event. To keep WU current, I switched my reporting over to my Atlas. Come to fine out, a large spider set up its home in the rain gauge and its web tied down the cup. Once cleaned out, it started working fine. My Atlas had quite a few problems getting things up and going but after the issues were worked out, it has worked okay. If I had to replace my stations today, I would select the Ecowitt. They have really expanded their offerings and everything seems to work well out of the box compared to my issues with the Atlas.
@@macgarage2203 Thank you, look like a good brand, my brother has the ecowitt hp2551 and here in Quebec Canada, we experience snow storm, freezing rain, high northern wind and he report problem of anemometer stuck in snow and ice, do you experience this problems?
@@olibrius9 Hi. Yes, I have experienced a frozen anemometer during winter storms. Mine is an older version and they moved the anemometer from the bottom to the top...not sure if that is why. My Atlas will freeze as well during winter storms but not as soon.
Nice job! Thank you for putting this clip together.
Thanks !!
