    Back on August 16th 2021 when Topical Storm Fred made landfall, I recorded over 19 inches of rain in less than 12 hours with my WS2000. It was very close to matching my rain gauge. We got some heavy winds which I suspect may have caused a slightly lower that actual amount captured.

      It depends on climate, but my WS-1400-IP is about to turn 8 years old in September and is still going strong! $150 in 2015. I have a 2902 (3.5yrs old), 5000 (2.5yrs), and Davis VP2 (3.5yrs) as well. The 5000 is actually my favorite. Absolutely love the 2902 though, I recommend it to everyone looking for a pws under $300. Enjoy!
      Personally I expect at least 4-5 years from my budget stations. But the beauty of the 2902/2000 is almost every part is replaceable individually, so if the thermo/hygro wears out (probably most common issue) you don’t have to replace the whole thing. I’m sure you are aware, but years ago Davis was really the only mainstream pws company who offered such a design

    Some things of note, I have WS2910 which is very similar to the WS2902 it was my first one that lasted for many many years (I would guess be around 6 years) until the outdoor stopped sending the temperature. I ended up getting a WS2000 model. I found the outdoor unit will happily send details to both screens. So now i'm currently using 2 screens. I much prefer the WS2000 screen. As well as much more information on the screen, it is completely configurable from the screen, as well as from mobile app. The WS2910 I had to use mobile app to make changes. Something you mention in the video was the sunrise and sunset, that's on the screen, as well as quick min and max temps (without pressing buttons) plus the ability to add lots of other sensors (lightning, multiple air quality, multiple temp/humidity, multiple water leak). The unit itself will also keep history on it (if you put a SD card in. If I remember right, its roughly 1 year history per GB).
    Regarding the installation on the pole, I got mine level from the bubble on it, and I found level pole did not make level bubble. I did however only have a 1 inch pole that was mounted on the roof of my house. So maybe less issue with larger diameter poles.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад +1

      You can add up to 7 or 8 sensors on the 2902 as well. The only one it's not compatible with that the 2000 takes is the lightning sensor. I think both are great units. I use the app enough that I couldn't justify the screen upgrade of the ws2000.

    Two big negatives:
    No option to mount directly without the pole.
    With the temperature sensor situated internally within the station, readings will be highly inaccurate when in direct sunlight.

    • @speedlever

      Actually, they won’t. That tiered device at the bottom of the main sensor array is a solar radiation shield. These PWS devices are meant to be mounted in direct sunlight for the most accurate readings.

  • @airmankey1991
    @airmankey1991 15 дней назад

    I’ve been using the 2092 for about three years now and I just purchased the 2000 yesterday. My biggest reason was because I do not like the display screen that I currently have. The 2902 also doesn’t let you add any sensors but the 2000 lets you add a ton of different sensors. I purchased the lightning sensor for mine and I’m just waiting for it all to get shipped. 2092 was fantastic but I just don’t like that you have to cycle through all of the fields to see individual data for example, if I want to see how much rain I got during a current rainstorm, but also how hard it’s raining I have to click through the fields. We also just went through a tropical storm and I loved the data!

    I bought the 2900 series, wish I had gotten the 2000 or even the 5000 series. My main reason for wanting either of these is expand-ability. I can't add the lightning detector, soil moisture sensors or pollution sensors to the 2900 series, but would be able to add them to the others.
    My rain gauge was WAY off as-shipped. It was only recording about 2/3 of what my manual gauges collected.

The thing is your phone/computer does not talk directly to these devices locally rather it -The device and you - thru the app or web site are connected to a server run by the same company that made 10 million of these cheap unsecured devices that can be running 'malware' inside with complete access to the same LAN in your home as your computer that you do everything on.
      ☆☆ Placing these devices on the Guest Network is the BARE MINIMUM everyone should ALREADY be doing! ☆☆
      Sorry for the rant but all of these incredibly inexpensive devices that we have all happily placed all over our homes are all made by/ controlled by/ constantly communicating with, the very same place threatening the USA with 8000 MPH missiles that can sink an aircraft carrier in ONE SHOT

    Thank you for this video. I am kinda skeptical on how well the batteries are holding up on the sensors. If you mount that on a roof, let's say, it would not be very convenient to change cells every few months. Are they recharging with the solar?

      No recharging, the solar cells are to provide power during the day. Batteries are for night and sunless days. The solar cells do not provide recharging capability. It is said to expect 2 to 3 years service life from ultimate lithium batteries.

    Other reviews seem to confirm the rain gauge system is iffy at best in terms of accuracy, especially in heavy rain. The barometer's accuracy has been called into question as well (compared to higher priced systems). I think anything below a $200 price point is going to be a compromise in this regard, and not a huge issue for most people. Coming from an engineering background, however, I personally can't indulge any kind of measurement instrument that isn't 100 percent accurate at all times. I understand this is just hobby for most people using this particular station, but even as a hobby you're not ultimately getting accurate results and therefore inaccurate weather reporting, which kind of defeats the purpose. The Davis Instruments weather stations are about three times more expensive, but put out professional level readings at all times. I'd rather spend the extra money and live in the real world. ;)

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад

      Partially disagree with you on the rain. I have two manual gauges under this one and I check them all everytime it rains. Light to moderate rains they are always dead on. Extremely heavy rains only slight disagreement. For example we got over 4 inches in a single hour last week. After all rain was complete, my manual gauge showed 5.1 inches and my weather station showed 4.79. That's as far apart as I've ever seen them, but it was blowing sideways and flooding.

    Nothing like 8 minutes of the same shot. WAY too long of an introductions. Could have said "after a long search and a little research, I decided to purchase this particular weather station." You also could skip the "I love weather" BS because I don't think people would invest in something if they didn't "love" what they are measuring. How about CLOSE UPS of what you're doing so we can SEE what you're talking about? And if something is "hard to see," make it EASY to see especially when it's something crucial as the actual mount of the device. Couldn't take any more than 8 1/2 minutes.
