There could also be an argument made for Lead Belly being the biggest influence. Dude has had a huge influence on blues and rock as a whole. Also he was a murderer who sang his way out of prison. Dude was folk punk decades before punk was even a thing

I love violent femmes and ajj but if I had to pick one I would 100% pick violent femmes. I knew about this band from my dad. I went to concert for my 17th birthday knowing maybe 3 songs. I went and saw them again two weeks ago knowing their entire discography. They are truly amazing
That was a quite a bit more positive than I expected. My feelings on anything folk punk adgacent are conflicting, but in the end, for a genere to officially exist for almost 3 decades with almost no commercial recognition at all... punk as fuck.
Blackbird Raum gets slept on a lot these days, but back in 2010 they really redefined the scene. Unfortunately the modern folk punk scene really died in 2014 but I do see youtube bringing it back here and there.
