You don't have to be in debt. Just be wise about the card you choose and how you pay it back/spend on it. Still, I wish I was your age so I didn't have to think about these things yet.
Pay cash, balance your checkbook/debit account, never take a loan on anything that historical records indicate will decrease in value, never take a loan on anything with volatility, keep your rent under 30% of your take home pay or a mortgage under 25% of your take home pay and write down your budget for every month based on the money you made the month prior and you will never have to worry about credit cards or debt.

@@JamesIsAway The whole idea of credit cards is stupid. The bank or credit union pays for your groceries, gas, etc. Then you pay the bank back… plus interest? So instead of paying $100 for groceries, you pay $125. Why not just…pay the store $100 on your debit card…? You save a lot of money since you don’t pay interest. With credit cards you’re just giving your hard-earned money away to the bank. People say credit cards build credit, which is true. But there are other ways to build credit. Like paying off student loans or financing a car (many dealerships will finance with you even if you have bad credit, like Carvana for example). The difference between that and credit cards is that most people have enough money to pay for their groceries without a credit card, but most people can’t pay for a car or college without a loan. However, it IS possible to pay for those things without a loan. If you’re going to pay off a car over 5 years, you could just save for 5 years and buy one with no loan. And you’d actually only have to save for 3 or 4 years because you don’t pay interest. So loans and credit are just useless. It does make sense to have good credit to finance a house, but again, you can build credit without credit cards. For example my Dad has never had a credit card. He has only financed 2 cars, and 3 houses. His credit score is around 750. He has no debt besides the mortgage. And he makes enough money to buy pretty much whatever he wants with cash. So his credit is completely irrelevant. That’s eventually where I want to be financially. And debt is even worse than that. If existence of debt increases prices. Think about it. Something only costs what someone is willing and able to pay for it. And if someone has a loan, they can pay more for it, which increases the prices. So loans are increasing the prices of cars, houses, and college. Making them cost more than what they should.
This is why I purchase everything in cash. I am planning on buying things with a credit card, but that’s only so I could build up credit by buying things I could actually afford.
