I gave up looking for this show three years ago! I was at this show, it was by birthday. They unfurled a tie-die Liberty Bell banner in the corner in honor of this being their 50th appearance at the Spectrum. So glad to see Jerry one last time before his death the following year. RIP JG!
This was a week after the famous Boston run. where the boys performed my favorite show. . In my opinion the best live set list ever! This night and a week earlier in Boston. were rare glimpses into a mega band about to fall apart. Magical nights that were now, far and few between. At some points it looks like Jerry’s about to fall down. He looked so awful and it was sad to watch. The end was just around the corner. Most shows in this later era were not so good. Jerry missing licks forgetting words looking like a zombie on stage. Even having to sit on a few occasions. And the man was in his mid 50s!!! Hell ,Bobby’s still rockin today ,and he’s looks like his skeleton from the touch of grey video! It was nice to see these nice fun moments in a time when we all knew, he wasn’t gonna last much longer. We were in denial at this point ourselves. My last show was Vegas 95. It had some sad moments and pleasant surprises. But what A great time it was! The world will never have this again. What’s touring around today I won’t go and see. It’s just me and my stubbornness. When you experienced the real thing nothing will ever fill that void. That magical night when it all comes together. The boys are tuned up and tuned in. Everything falls into place and it’s pure euphoria. God I miss those days.
@@glyn420 lol... easy on the nay saying. Dude never said this was them "at their peak". While the Spectrum shows aren't as good as 10/1 or some of the msg stuff, I dropped in on this Stranger jam and I can tell you if I watched Jerry play this solo live I don't think I would have been whining about it being "a bad night" either.
@@done1675 I'd rather listen to playing like what I'm hearing in this feel like a stranger ending jam than another sterile boring 77 show geeze the amount of fluffing that stuff gets blows my mind
@@matthewmaurysmith2486 he is clearly hyping 1994. As them at the top. They clearly are not. They’d hit some magic still but they are not close to the monster band they were decades hell even just 5 years before that. Garcia was clearly slowed down and less engaged. This isn’t opinion it’s fact. I still loved the boys and was still touring but pretending they were still at the top of their game is just that pretending. You can love the band and still be honest about their performances.
I checked in DeadBase X. There were 64 shows voted on shown in the Year 1994 survey. This show was not one of them. There are always going to be shows that "fall between the cracks". I've gratefully attended some of those in my GD lifetime, not 10/7/94 but after watching it I wish I had. All signs lead to greatness: The end show of a Philly run, a Friday night, a strong Stranger opener and Music closer bookends a meaty middle of set. Victim congas out of the 2nd Set gate followed by solid versions of "newer" songs Samba, Foolish and Corrina. If style points are being deducted just because there is nothing there before 1990 so be it. And I'd personally would have taken Last Time/TWBS/Dew/E:JBG post-Drumz at any show if offered up… :) …thanks for the vid… (y) (y)

Flew in from Boulder for this show, and some dude from Aspen hooked my twin and me up with miracle tix for our Bday out in the shakedown lot. Haha thanks for posting this, bringing back so many happy memories...
It was really sad to see Jerry like this I was federally indicted while ungrateful dead tour for something I was doing to fund my tour while being on tour falling in the Grateful Dead and I went away for a couple of years when I came home and saw the condition of Jerry Garcia I was saddened
Had a ball in Philly where I grew up with our Ind / minn crew best times best band best friends. Got a bunk ticket turned around and got a miracle from a young lady named Yvonne. After party at Red roof familiar?
Man,if Jer had lightning bolt when he was in peak form. I think it's tonally superior to rosebud and tiger. Besides the Travis Bean guitars and the various strats he played in the early 70s, I think he sounded best on bolt.
8:40 gives me the hardest toner imaginable also what killed jerry was becoming a vegetarian he would snack meat late at night like cold cuts or jerky or left over chicken and would only maybe eat a chocolate bar or two or spegatt and its not enough he needed the heavy protein to maintain his lifestyle
I was 2nd row in front of Jerry and he looked better than most days towards the end. Didn't see him "nod" and trust me I would've noticed. What I did see was some very nice but subtle jamming by Jerry's standards during most of the first set and even more in second. Highlights for me were Sugaree and BE women of course. He fumbled Tenn Jed a bit but really made up for it during MNS. So whether your telling a bad joke or maybe just repeating what someone else said you should just be thankful u were there. If u were. Peace bro!!
+Tony Danis Are you trying to get on the tonight show with that comment Samba had potential ? The absolute only thing samba in the rain was good for was to run to the bathroom or hope the power to vince's piano went out.
+TriniMendo-Humboldt LOL! I know that is a very controversial statement but, dammit, I'm going to take responsibility for it. Another thing, people think the lyrics are too undignified for the Dead, but I don't find them offensive. On the other hand, generally I have a poor opinion of Welnick. You know, back in '73 people used to think "Stella Blue" was awful and wasn't a "dead song". Now "Wave To The Wind", that's when you went to the john, IMHO!
+TriniMendo-Humboldt Oh no, I persoally loved Stella from the get-go, but, believe me, there was a lot of sneering at first. It didn't have extended jam opportunities and it was amiong the slowest of Jerry's tunes. Yes, by all means, get rid of the cheesy Midi.................

as a 16 year old in attendance, I felt the same. in the interim 24 years Ive grown to LOVE Foolish Heart, appreciate Victim and tolerate COrrina. Samba... never that ;)
Ok I'm not the biggest Vince fan but give the guy a break. He didn't really have much help or time to learn much. You know people used to trash Brent's songs as well until over time they got better. Vince's songs were played note for note and didn't develop..That being said "wrap me in cellophane" is a really cheessy lyric. Bobby probably even blushed during that one. ☮️

A great show for the late 90's, I'm sure I would've had a blast if I was in the crowd!
During Morning Dew Jerry’s playing lacks a bit of clarity but he really puts his heart into the vocals. It’s endearing.
