My condolences... I lost my dad July 5th. The holidays don't seem so cheerful at all. You should definitely try to enjoy it. Celebrate her life. Work towards bettering you in her honor. That's the only advice I can give. It's tough. Losing someone is never easy
My dad died last year,in december, week before Christmas, he had brain tumor. We like to remember our beautiful moments together, talk about it, cry and smile about it. We love him and he loves us and is with us I am sure! So celebrate the life of your grandmother!

American Tanning Culture is a great name! I'm naturally very pale (to the point my skin reflects light in the summer) and although I absolutely love it, it feels weird to hear everyone go "o my gahd I'm soo pale rite now I need self tanner asap"- especially so when their pale is still three shades darker than me. It's almost like you can't have dark skin, but you can't have very light skin either. At the end of the day, the grass is always greener on the other side, right?
I totally agree with you! On both the paleness and the inviting people over. While I agree Tati is free to do what she wants, I also agree that pale should not be considered ugly or ill looking. Let's just embrace it! Maybe us Dutchies are more used to pale faces (I'm guessing your Dutch since your name is Marieke) 😄
i know what you mean..i have Olive medium naturally tan skintone...i love my skintone but I also love pale skintone..I think it looks so pretty...and I wish women would embrace their skintone...i like how they look with self tanners tho...i even buy them myself...but tati has beautiful skin tone..shes not even pale...but shr does look pretty with a selftanner

Don't you just hate it one the person at the cosmetics counter comments on your skin (pores, wrinkles),? That is one of the reasons I hate asking for help...too embarrassing. You always look great Tati no matter what the price.
I would've been so pissed if someone commented on my pores! Like, yeah I have skin. Am I not supposed to? Department stores intimidate me so much sometimes haha
+Karen Parry I didn't even stop at the counter once (I have scars all over my face) and the person at the counter pulled me over and was like, "Hey you have a lot of acne try our..." And I just left.
+Karen Parry YES! Ugh, it's the worst. It's actually one of the reasons I've stopped getting my foundation at makeup counters. I have acne, but when it was younger it was even worse. But I didn't want to buy full coverage foundation because I don't like how it feels on my skin and I'm pale so even the lightest color would usually look orange on me, so full coverage is even worse for that. Anyway, I'd start off saying that I just wanted light coverage, and they would ALWAYS try to talk me into more. Full coverage with a serum and a powder. Like, no, that's not what I asked for. So yeah, korean BB creams all the way now. They actually have colors that don't turn me orange, their coverage is good, and it doesn't feel heavy on my face or shame me for my acne.

Tip for loose powder sifters: Clean the sifter off, make sure it is dry, apply duct tape or any sticky tape that will stay on well over as many holes as you need. I made a heart shaped one and applied it to mine and that left 7 holes open. You can be creative or maybe even use a big enough sticker?

Melissa Hight You should get a light therapy lamp. They don't have the damaging rays that the tanning bed does but they still help a lot. I just got a lamp and I'm really liking it. :) Of course if you want to tan you still can, I'm not one of those people that goes all crazy and shames people for tanning. I'm from the South, it's a lifestyle here lol, I just burn because I'm so pale.
I agree so much, watching these makeup videos and others is an escape for me, I go to work and I become so stressed and upset, and blame myself for it all.. my skin is in bad condition so that irritates me too and I'm battling depression through this chaos. but watching these videos I FEEL like time out from the world - I can just sit back, have fun and find potential buys for the future.

$75 is outrageous for powder alone... but $175!? where do these companies get off charging this much for makeup. Totally insane. But I can't lie, this is like my favorite series of Tati's lol and I just love her reviews. It's super interesting to see why they charge so much, to see if the products are truly worth it.

Lied to my boyfriend saying I have two different powders on both sides and asked which side he likes better. His response after 5 minutes: I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right spot, you look tired. Epic facepalm.
And as someone who has eczema on my face, the best remedy I have ever used in twenty years plus has been plain organic coconut oil. I usually have flaky dry patches at this time of year, and making sure I put on the oil every night before bed, and my skin is moth and soft and never better.
+YourKimberkitten My skin has never been as happy as it has been since I discovered coconut oil! It doesn't really help on the hands unless you reapply after washing though.
+YourKimberkitten how long have u been using it? Coconut oil is good for your skin but it gets dense at room temperature and I hear it clogs pores. I stopped using it on my face and use argan oil now.
+PhoenixXx A couple of months. But I never break out anyways...I can count on two hands the number of pimples I have had in my life. I have had no issue with it clogging anything. Another woman I work with has been using it for a year and she swears by it, too. I think it is worth a try anyways to see if it works for you!

Idk if this has been suggested yet, but have you ever thought of doing a full look with all of those ridiculously expensive products (i.e $100 powder, $200 foundation, etc.) and compare it to a look using the cheapest makeup products? (as in that generic maybelline greatlash mascara with the pink and green packaging we always see near all the candy and gum next to the cash register. We've all seen it.)

Omg Tati, you hit home when you said that about Christmas... My stepdad had a heart attack on Christmas day 2009 by the dinner table, he just fell to the floor, we did CPR but he died. My parents are dead since I was a child, and so I only had him left. Christmas felt so lonely as it was before I lost him, now, I just wanna run away from it :( I feel like its just a big reminder of that Im the one with no family, makes me so sad! :,(

The two things I will always pay a bit more money for are foundation and mascara. Those are the two things that at this point I can't not go high end on. Once you put that Nars foundation on your face no drug store product ever compares!

Don't you just hate it one the person at the cosmetics counter comments on your skin (pores, wrinkles),? That is one of the reasons I hate asking for help...too embarrassing. You always look great Tati no matter what the price.
I would've been so pissed if someone commented on my pores! Like, yeah I have skin. Am I not supposed to? Department stores intimidate me so much sometimes haha

+Karen Parry YES! Ugh, it's the worst. It's actually one of the reasons I've stopped getting my foundation at makeup counters. I have acne, but when it was younger it was even worse. But I didn't want to buy full coverage foundation because I don't like how it feels on my skin and I'm pale so even the lightest color would usually look orange on me, so full coverage is even worse for that. Anyway, I'd start off saying that I just wanted light coverage, and they would ALWAYS try to talk me into more. Full coverage with a serum and a powder. Like, no, that's not what I asked for.
So yeah, korean BB creams all the way now. They actually have colors that don't turn me orange, their coverage is good, and it doesn't feel heavy on my face or shame me for my acne.
Haha, you could have perfect skin and they'd still find a ton of flaws! Its a business selling tactic: make the buyer feel like they NEED the product.

Tip for loose powder sifters: Clean the sifter off, make sure it is dry, apply duct tape or any sticky tape that will stay on well over as many holes as you need. I made a heart shaped one and applied it to mine and that left 7 holes open. You can be creative or maybe even use a big enough sticker?
great idea for sure or if it comes with a sticker when you buy it just cut half of it off and leave the rest

I also have these issues. I jump in the tanning bed when it's really bad. Not for the tan but for the Rays. It really helps.
Melissa Hight You should get a light therapy lamp. They don't have the damaging rays that the tanning bed does but they still help a lot. I just got a lamp and I'm really liking it. :)
Of course if you want to tan you still can, I'm not one of those people that goes all crazy and shames people for tanning. I'm from the South, it's a lifestyle here lol, I just burn because I'm so pale.

I agree so much, watching these makeup videos and others is an escape for me, I go to work and I become so stressed and upset, and blame myself for it all.. my skin is in bad condition so that irritates me too and I'm battling depression through this chaos. but watching these videos I FEEL like time out from the world - I can just sit back, have fun and find potential buys for the future.

But I can't lie, this is like my favorite series of Tati's lol and I just love her reviews. It's super interesting to see why they charge so much, to see if the products are truly worth it.

Thank you for mentioning how the holidays are a tough time for you. I suffer from depression and seasonal depression so I'm even more depressed around this time of year. And as someone who has eczema on my face, the best remedy I have ever used in twenty years plus has been plain organic coconut oil. I usually have flaky dry patches at this time of year, and making sure I put on the oil every night before bed, and my skin is moth and soft and never better.
+YourKimberkitten My skin has never been as happy as it has been since I discovered coconut oil! It doesn't really help on the hands unless you reapply after washing though.
+YourKimberkitten how long have u been using it? Coconut oil is good for your skin but it gets dense at room temperature and I hear it clogs pores. I stopped using it on my face and use argan oil now.
+PhoenixXx A couple of months. But I never break out anyways...I can count on two hands the number of pimples I have had in my life. I have had no issue with it clogging anything. Another woman I work with has been using it for a year and she swears by it, too. I think it is worth a try anyways to see if it works for you!

Idk if this has been suggested yet, but have you ever thought of doing a full look with all of those ridiculously expensive products (i.e $100 powder, $200 foundation, etc.) and compare it to a look using the cheapest makeup products? (as in that generic maybelline greatlash mascara with the pink and green packaging we always see near all the candy and gum next to the cash register. We've all seen it.)

Omg Tati, you hit home when you said that about Christmas... My stepdad had a heart attack on Christmas day 2009 by the dinner table, he just fell to the floor, we did CPR but he died. My parents are dead since I was a child, and so I only had him left. Christmas felt so lonely as it was before I lost him, now, I just wanna run away from it :( I feel like its just a big reminder of that Im the one with no family, makes me so sad! :,(
Oh I'm so sorry for you! It must be a very difficult time for you. This really breaks my heart. I hope this time of year passes quickly for you. I know what it's like to dread Christmas (my reasons weren't nearly as bad as yours though). Sending you lots of strenght and a big hug!

The two things I will always pay a bit more money for are foundation and mascara. Those are the two things that at this point I can't not go high end on. Once you put that Nars foundation on your face no drug store product ever compares!

Which Nars foundation are you referring to? I have dry skin and heard their most current liquid foundation release is not ideal...
