I think that Shinburenseijuku Aikido Dojo represents the perfect connection between the great guide of Shirakawa Ryuji Sensei and the good job of his Uke: this is resulting in a very high expression of art and not sport. I'm really grateful for your videos sharing

Yes, we have done them in our Dojo under resistance as well. If you do them without your opponent knowing about it there is less resistance for sure. Some of these are very flashy but some of them work really well when done really fast. Some of them can even put you under the ground as well. The guy in the video is not normal aikido, and I love it!

In Judo we practice the (more or less) basic variant of this under the name Yoko-wakare. I've never seen Sutemi-waza in Aikido, where it seems (correct me, please) to maintain ones own balance all the time, without ever sacrificing it, so it is very educational to see this here. The variations Shirakawa SHihan shows are fascinating, some of which (not all of them will be possible) might be worth trying out on the Judo mat as well.
In Aikibudo, we have sutemi waza too.

I love watching Aikido. This seems like it's at a really high level. I see no effort on their faces.
Because it's a dance almost. Trying that on someone 'in anger' would take a lot of effort and several false starts. Aikido is based in real martial arts but in the dojo the ukes far too rapidly learn to follow along without resistance and move their centre of gravity to aid the technique. Sometimes without conscious realisation. Jujutsu or going further back, chin na, focus a lot more on the mechanics of what works and why rather than trying to make everything one smooth motion as the goal itself
Even if you consider it to be a dance the remark about it seeming effortless is valid. It is high level irrespective of other considerations.
@@atrtsh Good Aikido is more about capturing the timing and intention and harmonizing with the attack, but you're right, 97% of the time that just means learning to go along with the motions and that results in bad Aikido
Also, even Good Aikido is very hard to apply under pressure against a real attack, but it's still a different idea.
Basically Good Aikido is staying very calm and reading your attacker super well, and staying ahead of them, and that's rarely what gets transmitted during practice

HAKAN YIGIT YOLALAN. So, the John Wick series uses Akido? I wasn’t sure what fighting art that was. Not that I would ready recognize it when I observe it.
@@Posttrip The way I see it, in the John Wick movies there are used many different techniques from many different martial arts. Aikido is just one of them, as I'm pretty sure I've seen John do Kote Gaeshi several times with an armed opponent for instance.

As an MMA fanboy all i'm asking is can it be done under resistance. Simple
@@stevendo4357 against resistance is worst, you could maybe, not be able to walk again... he did not show all Sutemi, there are the fly ones, used in battle field to kill rapidly or break joints, knee, foot... you get the lock, your whole body goes out of the grown while you turn against articulation... when you land at the grow the guy is dead or permanent injured ... I don't think you can use this in MMA
@@stevendo4357 It can but has to be modified for a certain measure of safety, just as certain techniques are not allowed in MMA. For instance, if we are training at speed, and I want to execute an armbar throw, I will place the fulcrum point on my opponents tricep rather than his elbow. In battle, its on the elbow all day long 😎.

Really amazing video, I have really loved it, because I am practicant of Nihon Taijitsu whose founder was Minoru Mochizuki sensei and was brought by Roland Hernaez and Jim Alcheik to Europe through France. The sutemis we have in the program for black belt, and Nihon Taijitsu is considered the continuity of Aiki Juujutsu and the most similar fight disciplin to Aiki Juujutsu. Thank you for this perfect representation of the Daito Ryu techniques :D

We learned many of those in the 70s and 80s in our circles and also yoseikan Budo excel with these. this is a nice fun exhibition , it should not be mistaken for a fight.

the amount of conditioning needed to perform this movements is amazingly high, takes a lot of practice.

These techniques are beautiful and efficient. However, every martial artist will tell you to never give up your standing unless you have a good reason to do so. If you have grappling experience, the ground fight might be advantageous to you. if you don't, you just gave away your standing advantage.
