I was born and raised in Kansas City and am a lifelong Royals fan but my maiden name is Comiskey and you can’t help but have a place in your heart for the park and the White Sox. A large group of my family got a chance to attend a double header at the park in 1989. I wish I could’ve gone to more.

I remember Ivan Calderone peeking out of that 3rd base corridor WAY down the line in the under in the concourse. Just me and a buddy walking past. Gave us 2 bucks to go grab him a hot dog. The little caverns and corridors wed search out in the bowels of that place as kids. Greatest memories ever. That last season was magical. Was at the last opener and last game. Comiskey was the background to life as a kid.

I like the piece on Ozzie. In 1991 at the new park, my middle school band was invited to play the national anthem one afternoon. We took our position on the field and started to warm up for a bit. Ozzie walked over in our warm up, gently nudged our director aside, and directed us himself. I remember laughing and realized that he calmed the nerves of the band. Nice little memory.

Nancy Faust always responded to fans with a smile. Growing up I always remember how great it was my father or mother would say let’s go say hi to Nancy and she would turn around and say hi at the same time not missing anything on the field. She is a icon of the white Sox.

Man, they should have never tore it down! Comiskey parks outfield was massive. No wonder why they called it a pitchers park and for Ron Kittle to hit that 450ft moon shot to center field is incredible.. it looked like it went out of the ballpark and landed on the roof. So cool to see Nancy Faust.. I was at her last game before she retired. I miss hearing and seeing her at the games, too.

Me and a friend drove from Pittsburgh, where we lived, to Chicago for the final game in Comiskey Park. We didn't even have it planned. Saturday night we were talking about how we always wanted to see a game there, and Sunday was the last game. He said "Let's go", and I was all in. We drove all night, got to Chicago Sunday morning, bought a newspaper, found an ad with someone selling box seats and went to the game. What a beautiful ballpark! It felt sad to see it go. The White Sox beat Seattle 2-1. We drove all night back to Pittsburgh just in time for work Monday AM. 2.5 days with no sleep, I was seeing pink elephants on the way home and had to pull over to sleep for an hour or so. It was all worth the experience.

This is great! Hard to believe that the editor of this extremely well done documentary is an amateur. Boy, did he miss his calling! I'm 80 now, and saw lots of Sox games. My family since the early 1920's had a box by the visiting team on-deck circle, so I saw Williams, Mantle, Maris, Berra, all the legendary players from real close, 10 feet. BTW, my grandfather couldn't stand Nancy Faust. He liked peace and quiet between innings; not a fan of the organ. The Sox ticket manager (Rollie something) used to visit with my grandfather, who complained to him that the loudspeakers were pointed right at our box, which was true. The next time I was invited to a game with him, the speakers had been turned away! Now that is what Chicago calls "CLOUT"!

This brings back a lot of memories for me. As a kid lived out in Aurora. My dad wasn't a fan of either Chicago team especially the Cubs because he grew up as a St. Louis Cardinals fan and hated parking at Wrigley. So naturally when we went to a game we would go to Comiskey and catch the White Sox. I loved the feel of being in Comiskey and as a young kid the fireworks after a home run. Unfortunately I moved away to finish college in 1990 in SW Missouri where you had the choice of KC or St. Louis. So by the time I moved back they had already turned Comiskey into a parking lot but it was 2005 and I got to watch the White Sox win it all. It was a great homecoming. I still haven't been to the stadium for many reasons and will never forget about Comiskey.

I'm not a White Sox fan but I got to say this is a helluva production so far (i'll be watching the other parts in time. Not only is this a chronicle of the last season but giving some fuller history as well. I didn't know about Ms. Faust's accomplishments in inventing the walk up song concept and popularizing that "na na na na" song.
One of the great things about the old ballparks that you just can't replicate today is just how much of a community atmosphere that you get. Even the old parks that are still around don't seem to have that sense of fun anymore thanks to how corporate the game's become. From watching this you really get a sense of what it was like back in the day. Old Comiskey reminds me a bit of Ebbets Field in Brooklyn in the sense of fun there.
Thank you for this great production and I will be watching the rest later.

I grew up a Cubs fan, but ended up going to more White Sox games when I was a kid, as it was easier to get to, and the tickets were cheaper. So I spent quite a few games at the old baseball. In fact, I am pretty sure I went to a few games that season in 1990. I remember sitting at the O’Hare cash box , waiting to get onto the Kennedy to head to a game that year. I just don’t remember the rest of the night, as I remember it was one place my friends and I would be that would serve us beer, even though we were seniors in high school.
This was well done, by two guys, who never done this before. Congratulations on your work!

His voice and Nancy's music were the soundtrack of my life in my teens through my 30's. 1990 was my first year of being a season ticket holder, and this brilliant film captured the sights, sounds & feel of the ballpark (and perhaps the scent of it as well). Wow wow wow that was so awesome!!! I am 68 years old and a long time White Sox fan.. I remember in 1972 always waiting for Dick Allen to come to the plate...the 1977 South Side Hitman who came out of nowhere..and of course 1984 and 1990 were awesome years and times..bought tears 😢 to my eyes

Wholeheartedly agree with the assessment in the film that Dick Allen was the most important White SOX player ever. So true about without him the SOX would have relocated to Seattle or Toronto. Even worse than that means most likely I'd be a Cubs fan. F##k me! Thank you Dick Allen. RIP

Never was a Southside fan, but Comiskey offered me, along with Wrigley Field, the opportunity to see firsthand some of the greatest players who ever took the field.

This is really self-made doc? We have such good fans, objectively speaking. They deserve more W's.

Wonderful documentary. PBS quality, unlike most "docs" you find on youtube. I'm not a CWS fan but I love ballpark history.
The newspaper was incorrect in calling Nancy Faust as baseball's first female organist. The Brooklyn Dodgers had Gladys Gooding, and in the 1960's the Mets had Jane Jarvis.

One of my favorite teams of all time: Frank Thomas, Ozzie Guillen, Lance Johnson, Scott Fletcher, Carlton Fisk, Robin Ventura, & Jack McDowell. I would have loved to have seen them get into a World Series.

This was really great! I was fortunate to spend 3 evenings in July of 1984 watching the Sox crush the Tigers (boo hoo, I'm a Tigers fan). The fans were great and the atmosphere was tremendous. Saw another game a few years later with a native South Sider, who got himself a foul ball. Great memories, great people, great park. The Sox have slowly become my second favorite team behind my Tigers, mostly because of those trips to Comiskey and the warm, friendly fans.
When they saw our Tigers gear and even though they were beating our brains in (remember, this was the 84 World Champion Tigers who came into town with a record of 55-22) the fans were saying "You guys got a great team, see ya in the playoffs" and things like that. Looking forward to watching and sharing the next episodes.

What a great job capturing the grit and fun of the ballpark, team and fans. And going deeper to those earlier teams (esp. for me the '77 hit men Zisk/Gamble) was awesome. I turned 21 that summer, so got to know some of the vendors. BTW does Scott Fletcher now coach the Warriors?

My first real memory of going to Comiskey Park was opening day 1956. I had just turned 9 few weeks before. The only thing I really remember was that it was freezing and that it was Aparicios first major league game. My father made us leave early despit the game was close. I am sure the temp was probably in 30's. It was that cold. I have looked up this game a few times. A couple of thing stuck out. The game was 2.05. Amazing. The attendance was just 16,000. Even on a freezing day you would have expected more for opening day. It wasn't like they were coming off a terrible 55 season in which they won 91 games. The White Sox won 2 to 1. Pierce pitched a complete game against Bob Lemon. We moved to Racine in Feb of 1957. I became a Braves fan, but since they were in the NL I still reamined a White Sox fan. I still followed the Sox and still do so but the fandom has faded a bit. I was genuinely happy to see them win the World Series in 2005.
