They're both very good cards. The 4070 Super's better ray tracing is a benefit in many games, although the 7800 XT's extra VRAM will likely come in very handy within the next three years. I wouldn't blame anyone for choosing either one. It's all about what you value more.

That 16gb thing doesn't really matter at least right now. The 4070ti will basically be useless at the same time as the 4070super. 4070ti is like 10-15% faster so in actual performance it'll scratch by a hair longer but VRAM isn't going to save it. You need more performance and Vram to really future proof. A few games definitely use a little over 12gb now at 1440p (Alan Wake 2 High/RT, Cyberpunk with PT Maxed, a few more UE5 Games) but I think for this console generation of games it'll be fine.

In reality in an era where devs have announced upscalers are required for gaming going forward that performance jump can't be measured because where a 4070s would be playing 1440p dlss quality with beautiful visuals a 7800 xt would have to be playing 1080p native as fsr is flat out unusable for how bad the visual quality and artifacting is on their upscaler. I recently bought a cheap RTX 4070s with two fans on sale. The price is about the same as an RX7800XT with three fans. I actually wanted to join Team Red as an introduction to gaming PCs, but the 4070s was over $100 cheaper than the market price, so I bought it on impulse. I haven't built a PC yet because I haven't gotten the other parts yet, but I'm wondering if I should sell my 4070s and buy an RX7800XT with three fans. It's currently the same price as the 4070s I bought, but maybe if I wait a bit longer the price will drop. The RX7800XT with two fans is selling for $70 less than the RX4070s I bought. I prefer the quietness and cooling of three fans over high performance and slightly higher FPS. Plus, I have a desire to choose the more minority of any product and belong to the minority. I don't have a lot of money and my only goal is to be able to play games on a WQHD monitor, so I think about what I should do every day. It's hard to buy PC parts in Japan because they cost 1.5 times the price in US dollars. If possible, I would like to support AMD, which seems to have room for growth in the future. I bought the R 7 7700 CPU!
Why would you test hardware in games that no one else plays? Yes, they came out sometime recently or not so recently, people lost in them and forgot about them, you need to make another list of online games.
AMD needs to work on FSR big time. Otherwise there is no way they can beat Nvidia. AMD cards may outperform Nvidia in raw performance. But everything changes as soon as DLSS and Ray tracing are turned on. Nvidia ftw!
Even when compared with similar graphics cards with three fans, the GeForce's fans spin at high speed and get hot, but consume less power. On the other hand, Radeon has a slow fan rotation and is cooler but consumes more power. I find it strange that the same phenomenon occurs in many videos.
I could play it with my old RTX 3080 10GB Ultra Nightmare preset in 1440p so I don't know where is the problem with that 12GB. I bought an RTX 4080 back in March last year and I've never really see more than 10GB allocation not in game usage in 1440p though I've never played TLOU for example but in other games maybe allocation was higher that 10GB but in game usage always around 9GB.
it's more likely that a 16gb gpu will become obsolete before it makes use of the extra vram. if u get a 12gb card today like the 4070 you're probably going to be fine for 3-4 years but that's expected for a mid range card

That 16gb thing doesn't really matter at least right now. I bought the R 7 7700 CPU!

i am an amd user but im gnna be honest 4070 s is a beast if i gt the money i go nvidia for 1440p. Dnt hate a product jst because u cant afford it.
Went with 7800xt since 4070 super currently costs around 40% more than the price I got the 7800xt for
Already feel nerds in the comments who are obsessed with 16gigs of VRAM, and would prefer AMD only for that reason, even though 4070s is really cool product and won in every single benchmark xD
See? When Radeon got the smoother 1% and .1% lows, nobody bats an eye.
But when GeForce did it, everyone praises it and downplayed Radeon cards. 😂
Same thing happened with the power consumption. Nobody bats an eye when GeForce takes more wattage just a generation ago but immediately rages when Radeon takes more wattage now. 😂
AMD could be 50% faster than Nvidia and double the VRAM but the masses would still buy the Nvidia GPU touting DLSS and other features....it is what it is.
@@pdmerritt Imagine making the public think that upscaling is a must-use feature….
@@hadifelani it's all you hear these days. In fact, when people talk about Nvidia.... DLSS is often the first thing out of their mouths then Ray Tracing.
Even though the 4070 super has less vram, i feel like the 4070 might have longer legs than the 7800. The 10% ish loss is not that bad now but I see a really concerning trend where developers are relying more on tech like dlss and stuff to do the heavy lifting for performance instead of taking the time to optimize the game and this performance gap willjust get bigger or not improve. on paper, the 7800 should win though..
The temps are insane on 7800xt
more like the temps are insane on the 4070S. nvidia cards normally run cooler than amd equivalent.
performance like shx on AMD.
@@Erinna6306 a cheaper older card performs worse then an expensive new card who wouldve tought
@@JBoy551i think he means insane in a good way as it crazy low!
Thank you for Microsoft Flight Simulator benchmark. I've been looking for it.
Please test 4070 Super against RX 7900 GRE
Ray tracing is just an effect not realistic created by Nvidia as marketing strategy, plus they can't play with our money castrating the vram. Choose rx 7800 xt that is still improving with drivers and fluid motion frame, or rtx 4070 ti Super.
Why both cards seem to run terribly with stutters/lags?
When I use MSI Afterburner, more stutters seem to happen. I think monitoring just screws up frame times.
because both are trash
The Last of Us @2:55 the resolution scale was changed to a higher setting resulting in lower performance fps numbers for the 7800XT how is you thought no one would see that? Are none of you content creators trustoworthty anymore? If not for that the 7800XT is beating the 4070S in that game.
Th 7800 xt is like a powerful racing car that drives very well but has a shitty ac uncomfortable seats and a bluetooth speaker for radio. There are also beautiful cards available, there is a sapphire that is also white that would be perfect for my build, and the price is perfect, but all the things that nvidia does are important for me... I'm considering to buy the pny and deshroud it to make it white
that 270-300 W is definitely a NO for me. Definitely gonna get 4070 S for sure.
Both are doing the job. Still, i'd choose the rx7800xt because it has better performance/value ratio.
The Nvidia power consumption is very impressive.
Planning on building SFF but cant decide which GPU to get. RTX 4070 S or 7800 XT
RTX 4070S -> better g.power, better RTX but high temp
7800 XT -> lower temps, 16GB VRAM, cost lower in my area
so small performance difference but significantly better ray tracing, upscaling and frame generation and the remix tool for people they want to remaster games but thats a small portion of people but yeh i would fork $100 extra for all of that
Enjoy 12gb vram
12gb vram…
You can run a card without all these software features. Plus you can mod frame gen into anything now
On the other hand 12 GB VRAM
@@ij6708 yeh the 12gb of vram is disappointing and you dont have to use dlss but using features like ray tracing which i am a big fan of just like it when games use cool tech its just the other features that come with it are a fair bit more ironed out especially dlss where its gone to the point where i turn it on to make the game look better cuz it gets rid of aliasing and i get a bunch more spare frames to use and since im not a mega swet esp french cs player i dont care about super fast inputs
@@ij6708 i mean its cool that fsr frame gen can get modded into games now but it just ends up looking like shit alot of the time theres just way to much artifacts on the screen and thats because it wasnt actually implemented by amd
4070S has higher performance than 7800xt 🎉 Of course the price is also higher 😊
And vram is lower 😊
@@phantom0590 avatar use Vram higher 12G but RTX4070s Still produces higher frame rates than rx7800xt

I only consider Nvidea products to be good, all GPUs above the 4070ti super
7800xt any day
I really couldn't imagine spending 500+ dollars on a graphics card knowing it will be unable to ever use ray tracing and the upscaler is so bad that it's unusable so I am automatically locked to 1080p in most games. The thing never proven in benchmarks past simple fps counts is how usable the card is in real world usage
great graph on the rx7800xt really stable
There's no reason to buy a 40 series GPU. Power efficiency? Just undervolt it. Frame generation? Just mod it. I'd rather buy a 3090 24gb over this 12gb pile of garbage.
3090 still more expensive than 40 ☠️☠️☠️
depends where u live
@@v61kz
Undervolt 40 series and you would save even more power.
@TestingGames great video as usual. I would like to see a comp between 4070S and 4070 ti (regular non S). Thanks
Ray tracing has yet to impress me enough to tolerate the fps drop.
4070 s me hace sentir como un perro deseando mas comida con solo 12 gb mientras en amd me dan comida de mas pero comida que no es de calidad🥲( no se por cual grafica optar)
They cost about the same here in Sweden (4070 s costs $40 more) which one should I get?
I mean 4070 super beats the xt in literally everything & idiots are still complaining. Over $85 difference in price when your getting better raster, better raytraced, dlss, software across the board.nvidia cards use less vram then Amd
only like 100megabites less vram
Yeah I don't get it either. People are complaining about the 12gb vram even so the card have more fps even in games using more than 12gb vram. It seems they don't even look at framerate and just look how much vram the card have instead of the ACTUAL performance of it.
Stupid AMD fans😂
In my country the 4070 super is 650 and the 7800XT is 580.
Wish the 4070 has 16gb ram..
RT is nvidia tech, no point to test it with rx cards
How is your RX 7800 XT never touch above 50°c ? My XFX Merc 319 can reach 68°c during gaming. What AIB card did you use ?
Update : it's actually because somehow my out of the box cpu fan curve setting is suck. The fan never reaches 100% speed. After I play with it a little, the max temps is now much lower and never reach 60°C.
Powercolor red devil
Remember Nobody would be running benchmarks off a PC setup in a case. This is open bench temps
because in you hot spot
Both cards are way too expensive for "midrange cards" especially 4070S with that thin 12gb vram.Back in a day gtx 560 and HD 6870 could smash through anything for 240 bucks.
$500 is absolutely amazing for 16gb, $650 is not for 12gb.
7800xt should still be called just 7800 and GRE card 7800xt.Even with inflation current 7800xt should cost 399$.Despite better RT 4070S should also cost 399 as HWU shoved 6800 is now better overall even in RT thanks to vram.Same will happen here.
L nvidia
are the temps the edge temps on both cards?? looks like the 7800XT is definitely reading the edge temp, not the hotspot. This is the first time I'm seeing the 4070 Super running that much hotter than the 7800XT (at ~50watts less....). To me, it looks like the AMD card is reading edge temps and the Nvidia card is reading the hotspot.... If so, why no disclaimer?
(I have used 2 7800XT's and 1 7900XT and I know exactly how hot/cool they run, and sub-50c in Cyperpunk77 to me means edge temp for sure - and , again, I just cannot imagine the 4070 super's EDGE temps are that much hotter.........)
