Seems pretty complicated. If i get my bachelor's in mechanical engineering I will test this and see if I'm even considered. Seems like they are stroking the ego for those who were lucky enough to know someone to make it in. They're making it sound like engineers out of college can work for them and have an enriching, well paid experience. I just don't see them hiring an honest person with 0 connections to this place with high hopes that will only be crushed by an email stating they don't possess the necessary criteria to work for them.

They also seem like the kind of company where they look at a undergraduates gpa and will deny you entry if you don't have a 3.5 or better.

I can guarantee you, as someone who works in aero/def, the big companies like lockheed, northrup, raytheon, and boeing open their doors to everyone. The big issue is that alot of colleges dont expose undergrads to enough experience to be considered for these defense position. On top of that, the reason they are so picky is because every engineer who is hired needs security clearance, which is not only time consuming but costly for the company (takes up to 1 year to get lowest level of sec clearance and costs the company around $10k a person). Knowing someone and getting a referral definitely helps without a doubt, but I wouldnt blame the companies, but the lack of exposure our current education system creates for these jobs.

MISERSTYLE Because it will be saturated with Engineers with little interest in careers like Lockheed Martin who just want a job. Leaving the best possible Engineers on the sidelines.

mechanical engineering seems so cool. I'm a mechanic but I lack the creativity and focus it takes to truly engineer innovative products.

I don’t think so...it only takes one idea to be an innovator. Also, having a motivated and inspired team around you can do wonders.

Well i would hope it is because of the excellant pay healthcare and job security.
They are at the forefront in somethings, but it's a big world with many smart engineers.

The perception you all have of Lockheed couldn't be more inaccurate. This is not a legacy or who you know company. Lockheed Martin is in the talent acquisition business. Talent doesn't equal 3.5+ GPA's either. They are not strictly technical interviews. More emphasis is based on behavioral style questions to get an idea of the type of individual you are. Don't sell yourselves short.

Lockheed Martin Technology Specialists should stop using the word Engineers it's insulting, they should call them selves Designers and it's better, and they should wear Military uniforms while working on their design strategies, they should do it like there is Starwars going on around them and that should be the feelings of Lockheed Martin.
