Working ignition plates for these Tecumseh-powered outboards are getting rare--and expensive!
Thank you Ed for sharing your knowledge with us to keep these lightweight little motors in service!

I would make a thin plastic sheet (credit card) cover in place of the B-6000 cover, so easier to remove.
Cut an opening in the credit card to allow the new capacitor to be open to the magneto, as you show.
Seal the card around the new capacitor using a thin bead of the B-6000, and seal the card below to the old capacitor using a thin bead.
In case the ignition needs attention again later.
    Thanks for the info.

I got my 7.5 sears outboard running with a nova2 ignition module, like the old time atom ignition module. Are these the same circuit as the one you repaired? My system no longer has points and capacitor.

I would like to know more about this alternative. What triggers the new CDI once the original module is removed?

Mr stoller I'm in need of knowlage I have a ssi Ted Williams edition 7.5 hp outboard. The flywheel says Tecumseh. I got it and sprayed some mix into the carb and it fired then the next pull I had no spark. I think I blew the compacitor but have no knowledge of SSI and how to check the other components with my multimeter. Is there anything you can help me with figuring this old engine out? I can give you my phone number or Facebook page so we can talk
