Jablan i can see it happening, I was never into my dads music but my uncles instead, he used to listen to U2 and some reggae and in the other hand my uncles were showing me bands like Dimmi Borgir, Cannibal Corpse and the Beatles.

@@DapperHesher I agree in most of your argument but he was specific. He talked about modern auto tune hip hop shit, Not the entire genre. Honestly I don't like most of the hip hop/rap thing for the dame reasons that Mikael: it doesn't resonate with me. I like some old stuff, like Bigie and 2pac, a few more artists but nothing more.

He trashed auto tuned hip hop because he should, that shit fucking sucks. All of it. None of its good. There’s zero reason to add auto tune to hip hop. But akerfeldt obviously has a personal taste that doesn’t include hip hop. He’s honest when he thinks something sounds good. Not everyone is gonna like the stuff you like. He’s not criticizing the music you like either so I don’t understand the vitriol of him when he’s being open to something like Billie eilish.
Tyler Jacobson he can like and dislike whatever he wants, but he should let his kids develop their tastes on their own. Trashing on them like that will only have the opposite effect. I'm really hoping he was just exaggerating in this video, otherwise I have to say that he has the traits of a horrible parent, as much as I love his work with Opeth

Long story short: After puperty, I came to my senses and now I'm sitting home alone with a Good Chilli con Carne, listening to Ghost Reveries and growling with a full mouth.

As someone who loves both Opeth and Billie, this made me really happy. I thought he was fixing to dump on her, so this was really nice to hear.
Well, if he said something negative about her, I'd have to re-evaluate my good opinion about him. Billie is an excellent test to see if the person really understands something about singing. I don't trust anyone who talks trash about her singing or music.

It's doing yourself a disservice by not 'listening' to the musically of some pop songs.
To be honest, the whole of Pitfalls was pretty much contemporary pop. The more I listen to the 'scenes' the more I hear the hard divide is gone. Katatonia's City Burials: love me that album. Some synth driven pop in there too. Mac Miller's Circles was pretty interesting listen musically, but 'far removed from metal'. What about Daniel Tompkins' Castles - same thing. I like me some TesseracT, but that album … well yea.
Read your comment some time ago, decided to check out Leprous, now I love them even more than Opeth, and I can't believe that I wasn't aware of a band like that. So, thanks to Mikael, Billie and you Leprous is firmly stationed in my top five having kicked Opeth and Queen to lower ranks 😁 Talk about the power of one comment.

Imagine going to a Billie Eilish show and she announces a special guest, and Mikael Åkerfeldt fucking walks on stage.
That moment when Michael compares himself to Tipper Gore, this is just gold, from father to father I do relate to that moment. Even though I primarily listen to extreme metal for much about the last 30 years now (besides falling back to Big Band swing and Beatles and AOR frequently).
Honestly, for having tried to do the same with younger siblings and thanks to a mother who listened to a lot of different musics and let us do our own stuff and discover what we like saying anything is shit is the worst way to make your kids like bad stuff. But because he made them listen to classics as kids, he can be sure his kids will develop their own tastes in a varied diversified way, seeing qualities in everything they listen to, appreciating everything, from music that comes from academies and heavily technical prog to poor guys with a midi board and garage band just trying to get a basic beat with a violin sample to go on long enough to spit our how bleak the system is making their lives.

Been a metal fan since 84' and I can honestly so I like Billie Elish. She is definitely talent. I agree 100% on the other stuff. My son started listening to rap, so I started to introduce him to metal. He loves it. We have conversations about how talented the musicians are and how this is real music. Billie is cool, I can even hear some Fiona apple vibes here and there, plus she's a office fan. Her album may be in my top 10 this year. In Cauda Venenum may be a top 3, I'm waiting for Leprous's Pitfalls and there's some things I need to listen again (and Rammstein and Snarky Puppy are close contenders to my top spots).

Ive been an Opeth fan for many years and a metal head since i can remember and i love Billie Eilish! I agree with him shes special and quite unique. Her voice is angelic and haunting. Her style is quite dark, edgy really different from anything else. Not only teenage girls listen to her she appeals to all types of people and suprisingly to quite a lot of diehard metalheads! Some of her acoustic performances are absolutely amazing. Shes like an old soul with talent far beyond her years.

We can feel. I can feel the deep energys and memories in tracks too. That`s why i`m sometimes very chipped off everything. For me it was always shocking that alot of people can not feel anything in the music i hear. That made me sad for years in my past. That`s abnormal would i say. Because we`re all have a body, mind and soul. Why they try to ignore the pain. They suffer too, the same bodily injuries if something happens. That`s so weirdo. I know cases where people are traumatized their whole life because they just lost some friends. If i would describe my feelings. I just felt disguised spiritual pain for years. And now it`s gettin better. I want to strip that off as much as i can.

I was listening to some billi eilish stuff without even realizing it the last week and really liked the dark vibe it had with the soft and experimental vocals - even some of the instrumental in the background was good, reminded me a bit of Igorrr - wasn't even surprised when he said that he liked it. :-)
I love this man. BUT I remember in one of the "making-of" videos of one of Opeth's albums, Mike and Steven Wilson were admittedly using pitch correction on the vocals. Now, I know that that's not autotune and that they used it in a very subtle way just to be a bit more precise, but it means our "gods" are human too after all
and then Billly Eilish Comes on and i'm like, thast's odd, it's not bad, it was DaRk... in a way that i could feel comfortable.
