Welcome to Silicon Valley Lines. We visited their open house in November of 2023 to document more about who they are and what they do. SVL's story is worth repeating. In stark contrast to some who like to talk about being nice and inclusive, SVL actually puts these ideals into meaningful action.
Not only do they have open house events where just about anyone is allowed to run a train, but they also have a membership category for remote members. That's right, remote membership for people who don't even live in the area! How does that work?
It works because SVL has gone through a lot of trouble to create a way for remote members to operate on the layout from anywhere in the world. The remote members have often never even been to the layout in person.
That's building a bigger tent and including anyone who wants to participate. Great job, Silicon Valley Lines!

    I’m a member there
Sometimes during open house a lot of times kids might come and also that’s why really you need to be careful

Remote operations and dispatching as well as live web casting and Discord seems so high tech! Silicon Valley Lines living up to its name!

Awesome another Bay Area club, I don't feel like I'm club worthy but it's nice to know there are options, even though it is a good drive from SF. Also it's very considerate of you to run the bottom one on open houses only as a dad going to train shows, I'm not a big fan of having my kid on my shoulders because the table set up is 4-5 feet off the ground and there's only one step stool to view.

So at 10 years old I think I got my first ho scale model train
    A BNSF sw800 switcher
Since BNSF was my favorite railroad at the time
It ran well and I loved it
There was also a $200 coupon to the train shop in Santa Clara
i spent all of mine on a military train consist and one oil tanker car
    They are still a round
But the switcher was small and I wanted those mainline engines
So a few years later in 2023 I went to the train shop to get a chassis for my old sp sd40t-2 shell
They don’t sell kits anymore because people prefer them as complete models
    And I though
“ well we can’t just go to the train shop for nothing “
    And I found something
    This southern pacific GE u28cg
I bought it and I still have it

I'm from the bay area and have a layout. I wonder how many layouts actually exist around here? Any estimates?

These places also have kids with their Thomas the train tots and roll them along the track
N scale is really placed at a high level because of its size being really small and it can be mistaken for a toy

A few years ago I ran a Amtrak train around the layout
Like a express service and parked it in the small staging yard in the loop
A girl who was operating a Santa Fe intermodel train didn’t see the Amtrak and collided with jt head on
It derailed all the passenger cars and one almost fell to the concrete floor
But I think Jeff or James was there to get it
And I helped rerail all of the Amtrak superliners
My brothers thinks it’s my fault that I didn’t set the switch properly but then again it’s probably me and that girls fault well mostly her because she should have been paying attention ahead of it so she didn’t collide with anything

    How do I become remotely?

And yes they do have a lot of kids
    I remember I was like 6 or 7 when I became a member
I loved running the trains and u kept my hands off of the miniatures and never put them in my mouth cause back then and still now I though it was disgusting and I would throw it up immediately and still keep on throwing up
Anyways I ran their trains usually
    And sometimes my brothers
My brother (Mateo ) had a lot of ho scale model trains
    I had none
I though he could give me one of them
    But he said No
And slot of ho scale model trains cost so much these days and my parents wouldn’t get me one
