A difference between Canadian and American patriotism. Canadian patriotism is closer to Finnish than to American. We love our country but are aware that other people also love their countries.

We do not have a melting pot here, we have a mosaic made up of beautiful colours from around the globe. We don't demand conformity we appreciate cooperation. I hope that made sense.

A couple people in Amsterdam when I was there a couple years ago thought I was American and got extremely unhappy I wanna say. Cursed me out and kind of got more physically aggressive and kicked a bike and a small sign on the sidewalk. I just kept my cool and let him freak out, when he got close enough to me like just a couple feet away I just said I’m not American my friend I’m a Canadian! That annoyed angry guy stopped and looked up at the building around us and just said “feck brother you should have said that before I was in your face “ I could have but no one should have to announce their nationality to a stranger in a crowded space and feel like they personally have to answer for anything that they your country or country’s political fuck ups. The Dutch mostly love Canadian people, keep that in mind if you find yourself in trouble while traveling there. Hahaha ✌️

We were fighting Hitler and Mussolini with other allies in Europe for years before the USA decided to get involved (only after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor if my memory serves?). Americans are the ones who show up late, yet take all the credit. Canadians are welcome visitors throughout the world. We are not perfect, but our reputation speaks volumes.

On the patriotism, I would equate it to going into a restaurant and having a bad experience. An American will complain loudly, draw lots of attention, and demand a discount on their meal. A Canadian will quietly leave and not go back to that restaurant again. We're just confidently tolerant.
