Always difficult, or a lot of work to repaint any machine tool, most attempts make them look older, more knackered. Have a great weekend all. Best regards John.
"How do you know which side to paint?" Kurtis won't be forgetting that question for a while. Great video, and that Zayer is a really interesting shop machine. Thanks again.
If that happened in a plant with lots of employees, you'd be nicknamed 'Wrong Side Kurtis', and have to suffer your work 'mates' shouting 'IT'S THE OTHER SIDE Kurtis' several times a day. I can think of workmates who kept disparaging nicknames for 30 plus years. There some you wouldn't say to their faces, like Black Jack because he would throw a hammer at you, but it was 'character building'.
I never miss an episode. As a tradesman for the last fifty years it's very gratifying to watch someone with your skills and experience. I also like Homey Cam!
The quality of production is really great now, your work is really amazing Karen. Kurtis keeps the customers happy with his outstanding quality and attention to detail. Homey makes us all smile with his antics. 😊❤❤❤
This is what sets apart a good operator from an excellent operator! Machine maintenance! Everyone can put grease in a grease fitting, but very few do actually care for the machine in a way that's truly important. Repair broken parts, fix way covers, fix broken Oil lines. It's spending a few hundred bucks to keep an almost unbreakable, very reliable and very expensive machine in service for many more years. THATS what's keeping these beautiful machines alive!
Another reason among many, to watch these videos is that Kurtis does not beg for likes and subscribes. He credits viewers with the intelligence to know how that one works!
"The man that never made a mistake never made anything". The production of all your videos is great, in fact I've seen better camera angles in your work than educational stuff. Love your work and these videos are not only very entertaining but educational and a shining example of the quality of your work, plus always great to see Homeless he's a real star.
I love the fact that you've allocated time for shop projects, and that you follow it even if the original thing can't be done. It's nice to have a "break", where you get to do something you enjoy to make your work go smoother. Much love from me and my 45kg dog that's sleeping on my lap like all Friday mornings! ❤
And it's not just about the break, but also putting work into the shop, maintaining it. SO many people fail to do this and the shop just degrades bit by bit along with their productivity. Most of my big machines are taken from such shops, because they couldn't keep up anymore. And all the stories are the same. "Just one too many problems."
I believe Kurtis has said these maintenance projects take place on the weekend so really no break involved. One day they will catch up on everything then it will only be minor maintenance from then on. 👍
There is always something that you wish was just a little bit better. And yes time off is great. The weekend is the best time to do projects and repairs. Unless you have a customer sleeping in your shop waiting for his job to get done. When I watch the rebuild videos it's. This is what we are doing today. Usually it all things that would drive me mad and if I didn't change them to not be dreaded then I believe that I would start to resent the occupation that I love. It's always better to have work look and feel like play then to be something that you have to do. I don't think that I have seen a video yet that was not a master playing with his craft. That is to all three of you. Even when Curtis has been so frustrated that he has to take a breath. He gets right back at it and if it wasn't part of the video then one would never know that there was something that didn't work out according to plan. The breath is just stop drop and roll before the fire comes and then the next thing we know the approach is changed and it's like nothing didn't work as planned. You always know that you are with a master that enjoys their craft when they stop and take five before the job ends up in the bin, or every step is so though out that it looks like hay maybe I could do that to and the first and last time I tried to mill something I broke every tool I tried to use and when I welded two parts together they looked like I got hungry and tried to eat them. But you know I think that despite my having two separate parts and not a welded part. I think that I might be able to do that. Please remember that work is play and play is work with a deadline. And with no you time or we time. You end up working a job. I hope that you will always be able to never have work be a dreaded job but rather it be something that just is because you orchestrated everything. Meaning it was for no other reason then you were there.
Kurtis, you should be known as‘ Above and Beyond’ engineering ! Every single job I have seen you do really IS above and beyond, nothing is ever left to chance, every ace is covered! I wish there were more people like you!😎👍😁

Hey Tony, Yeah they're pretty good over there at Hare & Forbes. But you're right, you need to make the purchases a covert mission. HAHA Thanks for the super thanks contribution. We appreciate the support! Cheers!
Cleaning, maintenance, and upgrades keep the equipment running smoothly, accurately, and reliably. Funnily enough, that has a tendency to aid the operator and business to do the same. Love it. ❤️
That Zayer has been needing that attention after years of what looks like pretty hard service before you bought it. But with your refurb, care and preventative maintenance, it will be like new and last a lifetime. It's a beauty! You two remind me of my wife and I...you crack each other up all the time. Kurtis, my man, I can only help you by passing on the marriage advice I got from my father--"Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?" 🤣 Thanks for inviting us in and have a great week. Cheers.
thank you for my weekly fix of OCD soothing content. That's a compliment by the way. I've somehow gotten old and don't get to do many projects anymore, your attention to detail fills a hole. The fact that you leave in your side tracks and mishaps makes it more real than other content.

This video brought back some old memories for me. My first "professional" machine shop job, (meaning that I was actually paid), was to clean a 40? yo Turret lathe for my Grandfather's shop. It was about 8 foot wide. That lathe looked as if it had never had a good cleaning, ever. It took me about a week to clean out about 5-6, 5 gallon buckets of really awful grease, coolant residue, and chips. It was back in about1965. It's been about 60 years now, and I can still remember the horrible smell of the debris! My older brother recently told me that he had worked on that cleaning job as well, but I don't remember him working on it with me, because at that time we didn't get along very well, so I guess we worked on it separately. I was about 10-11 yo, but I'd been "working" and learning about machining from him since I was about 6yo. He was a very patient teacher and taught me as if I was much older. I became the owner of his machine shop equipment about 40 years later, and I still operate the equipment, but that turret lathe had been sold previously.
Been watching you since 21-22 era, not sure specifically. Was stuck in USA for Covid and got back to Phuket and was surprised to find so many of my Aussie friends were aware of you. Truly appreciate what you do and how hard you work with precision. Keep up the professional approach to your business. Cheers

The Zayer is a awesome machine. I am sure it will serve you well. I appriciate Karens observations and Homey's entertainment. Greetings from West Texas.
Precision in your field is so very crucial... I am so privileged to witness this... Good on you guys. Excellent... Oh no, popcorn finished... now I need to do a precision clean...☺
The Councils Working, five men leaning on shovels and one working. I drove JCB's and hated being on hire to the council, although I had a 4in1 clam bucket I could not pick up the last pea size bit of gravel due uneven surface. Yet five men would give me all differing hand signals to try and do it. I'd just jump out of the cab and kick it into the bucket with my foot.
Don't change a thing with these videos they are always perfect. The dialog, pacing, animals, out takes its just all a perfect production. You have done something those in hollywood always seek, that indescribable magic.
Kurtis, it's always fun to see your latest project whether it is a shop or customer project, your attention to detail and how you approach each job is a testament to the quality of work both you and Karen do because without her, we wouldn't know about you!! Also, you mention your brother from time to time. I take it he's camera shy but I think it's cool you can work together. You have a great shop and I do enjoy your interaction with the wildlife that visits you. I hope you remain as successful as you want to be. You have a great channel!!!
Cezary
I love the fact that these guys 1. had paint mixed just to match this machine 2.Karen was just the perfect bit impressed that the step drill left a chamfer on the work piece
Having done dozens of similar cleanings of machines that I was responsible for, I can almost smell the machine as you do this. It's always great to have thing cleaned and "buttoned up" again afterwards.😊
“Are you ready?!” “I said, ARE YOU READY?!” “From Queensland, Australia; here’s Kurtis and Karen!” Another weekend is coming and the two of you are providing the edutainment for (at least) a million of us humans. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Best regards, Alan Tomlinson
SCHEDULING shop maintenance & repair time.. truly professional. So many will only take the time after it breaks. It’s panic time then. Scheduling PM keeps things so much better. And aren’t those just the prettiest swarf guards?😊
I like the "mistake" with the color added to the panels! I was hoping you'd re-paint the whole machine but I know you only have a certain amount of time for projects and you've got to do customers work.
I just love this channel and try to watch it daily if I can. Being retired I should have all the time in the world, but nope. Seem to have something else all the time. But it is great to get on and actually comment. Just keep up the amazing work Kurtis and Karen, and Homie! Love the channel, love the work. I have so many questions, but don't want to bother you with them all. Keep up the good work!
Kurtis, you need to get a job where you use that shaper you have, I've watched a few of those machine shop videos from India, and watching a shaper work is mesmerizing! 😄😄😄
It's great to watch you both get stuck into filming another machine upgrade and fixup. The swarf guards look so pretty now Kurtis 😉, and that new readout makes the Zayer look like its ready for another 10,000 hours work. All dressed up and nowhere to go. Karen I love your little giggles and other oohs and ahhhs. Homey and Jeffrey top off a great week. Thanks for the great video. Speaking of the FRANNA ... While driving along the Northern Expressway north of Adelaide several days ago, I saw the familiar profile of a FRANNA Crane plodding along , quite an awesome machine. Yours will be more spectacular when you have finished fully restoring, rebuilding and repainting and with "Cutting Edge Engineering" proudly painted on the main boom. Have a Supercala-Franna-Listic weekend.
Curtis, Please give the Safety Officer a long overdue raise! Homey is the best without equal safety officer on RUclips! I love the way George learns his job by watching you, Karen & Homey! Please put George on the payroll! You're only as good as your help!
Glad to see I am not the only one who is willing to use a step drill to do some deburring when the occasion calls for it! They do a surprisingly good job at it even when you didn't use them to drill the hole.
It's great to see Curtis to schedule maintenance and always looking at ways to upgrade his current equipment to make sure his equipment can work efficiently and not break down during urgent jobs etc. as I was told you look after the tools of your trade they will look after you. And so the wife was right you painted the wrong side.
But also a master of them all, except maybe painting the right side. BUT You didn’t paint the wrong side, you applied an extra layer of rust and scratch protection!
Nice to operate a machine thats maintained and in good running order. I did love operating huron milling machine, compounding adjustable head is so well designed and built. A very useful machine.
Paint job looking sharp, always enjoy seeing your process of working through problems. Particularly liked the 'I am going to admit fault and say that Karen was right' moment. You guys are too funny together. Cheers for the video, keep up the great content!

Such a talented guy. I enjoy your videos. Makes me appreciate attention to detail when completing a manual job.
Thanks!
Hey mate, thanks so much for supporting the channel! We hope you continue to enjoy the videos. Cheers! - Kurtis, Karen & Homey
Aussie engineering at its best, " The Council," sounds so british, though 😊.
Great work all.
Thanks for sharing.

Kurtis and the loverly Karen, I always enjoy your video's machine maintenance is so very important but will pay off well into the future.😊
Really enjoyed watching you give some love to that old machine, have a great week end.
Cezary
"Oh, chamfers it too!"
That's quite a Mrs you got there Kurtis. A rare jewel.
Definitely a keeper mate!
😎😎🙏🙏
"Admit fault..." You're a good hubs Kurtis"
When you started removing parts from the milling machine and wiping it down I could smell every engineering workshop I've ever been in.
I thought I was the only one 🤣
good to hear that you are feeling better
26:19 I'm smiling to the TV like an idiot because that Kurtis smile is so beautiful. That's a great smile mate. Entertaining video as well❤
Restoration and fresh paint are wonderful things, especially on a machine you work with often. Makes it almost new! Excellent work folks.
I love the fact that these guys 1. had paint mixed just to match this machine
2.Karen was just the perfect bit impressed that the step drill left a chamfer on the work piece
Another in house job off the list, thanks for sharing have a great weekend.
Having done dozens of similar cleanings of machines that I was responsible for, I can almost smell the machine as you do this. It's always great to have thing cleaned and "buttoned up" again afterwards.😊
“Are you ready?!”
“I said, ARE YOU READY?!”
“From Queensland, Australia; here’s Kurtis and Karen!”
Another weekend is coming and the two of you are providing the edutainment for (at least) a million of us humans. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Best regards,
Alan Tomlinson
Thanks for the video Kurtis and Karen great job as always ❤️❤️👍. Take care of yourself and family and friends and Homey 🐕 and be Blessed ❤️.
Ahhh.... My Friday can now start. Another excellent video from a very talented couple. The wrong side painted blooper was hilarious.
SCHEDULING shop maintenance & repair time.. truly professional. So many will only take the time after it breaks. It’s panic time then. Scheduling PM keeps things so much better.
And aren’t those just the prettiest swarf guards?😊
It is so nice of you to upload a video for my Birthday. :D
happy birthday mate! 🎉 Hope you have a great day
From the US have a safe and happy B-day🎉
I like the "mistake" with the color added to the panels! I was hoping you'd re-paint the whole machine but I know you only have a certain amount of time for projects and you've got to do customers work.
Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
I was very surprised that calibrating thr new DRO wasn't an hour or 2 long process. And I love Homeless's little whines of joy. He is SUCH a Good Boy!
I saw ya use the corner of the flat head in the Philips screws, ya savage 😂
I absolutely love the channel, wait patiently for the uploads on Thursday nights (here in Canada). I learn something new every episode
I love your little Homeless special clips. I can’t help but chuckle at his behaviour.
Thank you as always K, K & H 👍
Curtis, Please give the Safety Officer a long overdue raise! Homey is the best without equal safety officer on RUclips! I love the way George learns his job by watching you, Karen & Homey! Please put George on the payroll! You're only as good as your help!
Good day, another very nice video. I always look forward to seeing your videos on Fridays.
Ton from the Netherlands.
Thanks so much for the entertaining video. Loved when Kurtis when he admitted his mistake and Karen did not rub it in!
So much more pleasant to work with any time you upgrade your gear 😌
Glad to see I am not the only one who is willing to use a step drill to do some deburring when the occasion calls for it! They do a surprisingly good job at it even when you didn't use them to drill the hole.
Weekend is here finally
It's great to see Curtis to schedule maintenance and always looking at ways to upgrade his current equipment to make sure his equipment can work efficiently and not break down during urgent jobs etc. as I was told you look after the tools of your trade they will look after you. And so the wife was right you painted the wrong side.
The new display looks great. Once again a terrific job thank you for sharing.👍
Homie makes me smile every time i see how happy he is. Super awesome furbaby
You are definitely the jack of all trades
But also a master of them all, except maybe painting the right side.
BUT
You didn’t paint the wrong side, you applied an extra layer of rust and scratch protection!
@@samleigh7817 and don’t forget bullshit proof
I really enjoy the retrofits. And my compliments to your videographer. She always does a bang-up job!!❤
hello from Finland 🇫🇮 yesss... friday and good nice video 😁👍
Hey Curtis ...... I had a similar issue with the way wipers and I simply machined a solid HDPE one piece wiper and they work amazingly ......
Good day and love you all from Canada
I just love how you guys are keep investing in the workshop thats the way to do it! Thanks for the videos
Once again, this brongs up childhood memories about RTS games)) "Upgrading. Building. Unit ready." And, of cource, victory in he end!)
This is the best channel on YT i found. So relaxing to watching and every time i watch i learn something new! Love you guys! Cheers from Slovakia.
hey mate thanks for the great comment and glad you enjoy the videos!
Good morning from the UK 👋🇬🇧
Nice to operate a machine thats maintained and in good running order. I did love operating huron milling machine, compounding adjustable head is so well designed and built. A very useful machine.
great work mate, love all the shop videos bud. keep all the videos coming because they are the highlight of the week.
Paint job looking sharp, always enjoy seeing your process of working through problems. Particularly liked the 'I am going to admit fault and say that Karen was right' moment. You guys are too funny together.
Cheers for the video, keep up the great content!
