    I liked Leto but Bowie as Wallace would have be an intense experience. Also I wish they would've made Wallace less obviously evil and a bit more charismatic, just like in the first Blade Runner there wasn't an actual villain.

      I didn't enjoy Leto's performance in the role, I felt he was too young and you're right, too "evil" or sinister. Something more ethereal, with more weight to the performance and less lines even would have been fitting I feel personally, or go the other route and have a character that is just entirely blase and uncaring as to outcome or motive. Definitely too much "obvious villain" vibes in the performance, but the movie was fantastic.

      Spot on. Leto's character was the weakest aspect of the movie on my first two viewings. Certainly not the ambiguous, charismatic soul Villeneuve mentions, to my mind anyway. I'll have to watch my BluRay copy and reevaluate. Bowie would have been great, though.

    • @OracleGrouse
      @OracleGrouse 7 лет назад +5

      I'm in Montreal too, I'd say people in the artistic industry are quite often humble here. More likely because in our culture we shun people with inflated ego and we encourage teamwork and humility. We're quite hardworking as well, doing our best with the scraps given to us which led us to developing ingenious techniques with limited resources (and Denis learned to work with those constraints and developed his own style).
      Of course, people you meet in the streets are a mix bag of personalities.

    David Bowie in Blade Runner 2049 would have been one of his definitive performances. Imagining him in that role gives me goosebumps. His his performances became more dark and haunting over the years, especially in Blackstar. That would have absolutely mixed perfectly with the characteristics of Niander Wallace.

  • @uscman
    @uscman 3 года назад +7

    I can’t get over how David Bowie would’ve been awesome as the character, and envisioning him with Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard would’ve been galvanizing. A beloved actor with a beloved musician and reading Niander’s lines in Bowie’s voice explains why Denis Villeneuve wanted him as the character. And it would’ve made the character someone you love to hate and hate to love, I loved Jared Leto as the character, but it was obvious he was the villain and there was no ambiguity for if he was a hero or villain.

  • @ericisdead95

    It would look wonderful. Wallace would be sophisticated, mature, with an aura of power and supernatural sensuality. David Bowie was a multifaceted artist who would make this movie more wonderful than it already is. Jared Leto is a good actor but I personally think he is too young for that role.

      I can’t get over how amazing it would’ve been to see Harrison Ford playing off of David Bowie as Niander Wallace. While I like Jared Leto in the role and was touched by how Jared Leto felt upon working with one of his idols, I can’t get over what could’ve been had Denis Villeneuve contacted Bowie before his passing in early 2016. Just a sad examples bad timing... RIP David Bowie, we love you and we miss you.

      @FabledGentleman 7 лет назад +1

      I can almost 100% guarantee you that it wins Oscar for best cinematography. And it will also be strong in sound mixing and sound design. Production design, art direction and set decoration, will also highly likely be nominated, might even win. It will probably not win CGI because of War for the planet of the apes. Costume design is hard to say, i don't think it can win that, but it might get nominated. Music will probably not win either, not even sure if Music get's nominated, it's good but it's relying too much on the original. And finally, I hope that the movie at least get's nominated for best picture and best director. But i only think it can win "best director" of those two. Dunkirk for example is probably going to be considered a better movie, since BR2049 is a sci-fi. The Oscars don't like Sci-fi's.

    • @ealing456
      @ealing456 7 лет назад +2

      Having a signature sound is great, but there have been a lot of Zimmer scores these last few years that sound generic (loved his work on Kung Fu Panda though), as if they were cobbled together quickly - as a result they just blend into the background. Loved Zimmer's earlier works though.

    • @RorySinn
      @RorySinn 6 лет назад

      I agree, I think Hans Zimmer has kind of ruined modern movie music, there's very little themes or melodies in movie scores these days and I think a lot of it has to do with the percussive and blaring synths that Zimmer has propagated. Having said that, I actually loved this soundtrack in the film, one of the most intense movie experiences ever and the music was a major part of that. I didn't even know it was him when I saw it, I went in knowing as little as I possibly could on purpose.

      Source Code should've ended the moment they kissed and the high-speed-camera showed the train full of smiles. We didn't need the answer afterwards. Still a very good movie though.

    If Bowie had done the Niander Wallace role, it would have brought home the idea that Wallace doesn't at all regard Luv as unique...that's a generic word the British use for people of the opposite sex.

    If he'd been well, Bowie would probably have done it too. He was a big fan of Blade Runner.

    Loved the film but Leto was too young for the part

      45 years old, too young? ok...

    • @JL-tf6vc
      @JL-tf6vc 7 лет назад

      Joe Turkel was perfect in the original, older and odd-looking. Bowie would have worked well in this respect. Leto is a young-looking 45-year old, his character didn't seem old enough to have built-up such a massive empire.

      I agree, yet his character could be any age, like in the Neuromancer universe where artificial youth is accessible to anyone with wealth. Seems entirely plausible the same would be true for the BR universe...

      God Bless I'll agree with this 100% even though I thought Leto was great. With bowie I would've gotten the sense that this guy genuinely wants to expand his tech and the future with (spoilers) the child replicant. Like he thought what he was doing was for the good and revolutionary. With leto I got the sense he wanted to be the best of best and the greatest creator. Leto was by no means bad but Bowie would have really brought something different and interesting. Plus he would also make the Deckard and Wallace scene fucking amazing due to him and Ford being great actors.

    It would have been ironic for a person literally about to die, to play a character who thinks he's an immortal God.
