Back when I was in high school, everyone called every genre of metal or punk “screamo”. Metallica? Screamo. Green Day? Screamo. Slipknot? Screamo. If you made music that was heavier than the Beatles, you were considered screamo.
@@cthulhulvl35illithid i spent my high school years hating "screamo" thinking it referred to shitty myspace-era stuff, completely missing out on how incredible the screamo genre really is
Interesting that you never like vocal guests on Touche Amore, while I always find them to be brilliant. Like you say, they are at odds with all the rest going on, which is why they are great (IMHO)
Happy to see you review this album. Haven't given it enough listens yet but the first few were satisfying. Jeremy Bolm is such a solid dude and seeing them live is an experience.
Always thankful to see you review Touche. I found them from your Stage Four review years ago. Instantly became one of my favorite bands. This was a top 2024 album for me. Was very happy to see them move past the somewhat underwhelming Lament.
I apologize if you already did a video on this, but I would be very interested to see a video on their first album(s). I think their self titled really set the tone for their career in the scene, and I'm sure there's plenty to be said about that. Likewise, I'd love a video on debut albums, what started band's careers as their first step into the limelight. Again, I apologize if this is a topic you've covereds already. I just couldn't find it in my search. cheers.
Review the new Balance and Composure please! They’re not loved by more art music lovers but I always felt they should be. Loved this new TA album tho! My favorite of theirs in a while.
Man, they've came to play in a small club in Brazil some years ago, and during the day when the brazilian bands were playing I met Jeremy just chilling in the middle of the still forming crowd. Had the chance to chat with him for a while them I left him to enjoy his moment!
Machine Girl album covers ranked worst to best: 6. MG Ultra 5. The Ugly Art 4. Gemini 3. U-Void Synthesizer 2. Wlfgrl 1. …Because I’m Young, Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For
Not a bad album but it seems just like an album. Doesnt move them forward, just keeps them where they already were which isnt bad. I give it a solid 7 outta 10 with stage 4 being a 9.
@@Jimmy-hs7pt I keep trying to tell myself if it's a recency bias or if I love this album that much. I listen to it multiple times a day and I don't get sick of it
@MUSE1795 interesting, personally I feel like the elements brought in on lament (the slide guitar especially) were really interesting and added a lot, and that the songs in their typical style were stronger on lament. Every album of theirs has grown on me over time though so I wouldn't be surprised if that happens again
The only disagreement I have is that Julien Baker didn’t stand out on goodbye for now and rather lingered at odds with Jeremy’s voice. I think the echoing screams behind his voice turned me off on first listen, but after the initial smack to the face I found it to be a perfect crescendo to the album. You are very right in the fact that Lou Barlow’s lyrics did very little to complement subversion however.
Couldn't disagree more about stage 4.. This has more throwback energy and IMO thats when theyre are at their best. the slow songs dont hit as much as i think they wish they did. but its a solid release overall
They were one of my top bands for a few albums there, but I'm not a big fan of the shift that's happened now Jeremy wants to do melodic vocals so frequently. They've switched to doing more verse-chorus song structures to accommodate them, and it's boring. And I don't think the melodic vocals are a strength of Jeremy's, personally. Mezzanine is the track I think it works best on.
YOU GOTTA HANDLE IT GRACEFULLY
Wasn't expecting this review, but I'm very happy it exists

Back when I was in high school, everyone called every genre of metal or punk “screamo”. Metallica? Screamo. Green Day? Screamo. Slipknot? Screamo. If you made music that was heavier than the Beatles, you were considered screamo.
And likely very few of them had actually ever heard screamo
@@cthulhulvl35illithid i spent my high school years hating "screamo" thinking it referred to shitty myspace-era stuff, completely missing out on how incredible the screamo genre really is
This is the all boys Catholic high school effect. Especially when you’re the only one that listens to this stuff, everything is screamo
I have a sister who thinks literally anything with screaming in it is "screamo."🙄
People still call anything screamo I hear people call Korn screamo people just don't know what it means
absolutley love touche amore

Would LOOOOVE to see an interview with Jeremy or for you to go on his podcast! You have a lot in common
Just saw them last weekend! While their albums have dived into their other influences, their live shows always go super hard
