    Thanks for this quick tutorial. My daughter is getting into candle making and she gifted me one of her creations using a wood wick. I'm glad to see the test you had using one because when I lit the candle for the first time, after trimming it down to about 1/4" the flame shot up to about 2". I've since visited the vendor she purchased her supplies through and there was a post where someone suggested the normal flame height was 1.5" - 2" high. In a tin used to illustrate the post, that flame height appeared to be disproportionate, and in my opinion unsafe, to the vessel. I am glad to see your test showed what I consider to be a safe flame height.

    I just started making candles and I'm conducting burn test now. I have a wick that has preformed the best so set it up with a full jar and a half jar. The full jar worked perfectly 4 hours and just over a fourth of an inch deep and full melt pool. The half jar is just over 1/2 inches deep and the flame is dancing alot. I'm using a 4 inch tall 3 inch wide jar. What are my next steps. I feel like the jar is too hot in the half jar. Love your videos! Thanks

    Is the black soot on the jars normal? I've tested two and have had it on mine. I'm thinking about trying the wood wicks. I love the crackle but I'm also scared to try them because I've seen so many people have problems with them staying lit. I'm a beginner so I'm trying to do my research and my head is about to explode. lol 🤯

    • @StandleyHandcrafted

      I haven't had much trouble with the wood wicks at all.
      As for soot, that is normal but can be taken down quite a bit with proper wicks. I had a wick that is just a touch big in this jar, still works great without over burning but could go down one size easily.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted

      It depends on the wax. Paraffins maybe 2-3 days.
      Soy and soft waxes more like 10-14 to get a good test. Making sure the wax is full hardened.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  Год назад +1

      It depends on how much, if its coated then yes I would try another wick. If you have a little bit of soot build up as it burns all the way down,. absolutely not.
      Almost all candles will get some form of soot and discolored wax as they burn. Not all but it is common for sure.

      @@StandleyHandcrafted The frustration im having is that I followed the recommended wick size with the wax and vessel I’m using. All of the tests I’ve done with each fragrance oil set off a lot of soot on the sides and the flame was too high, too much black smoke. I’m using makesy coco apricot Creme wax with a 12oz aura vessel. Makesy recommended a wooden wick .02/.75 boosted wick. But all the tests I’ve done seem to be burning too hot? I’m kind of at a loss as what to do because I’ve tried wicking down, using non boosted wood wicks but I’m still getting soot. I’m newer at this so I would just welcome all the advise on what to do.
