houdini would expand his chest and put his shoulders out while being tied. then he would dislocate his arm sockets and get out. he was also supermuscular so the trick was legit. in deliverance the guy they find drowned with his arm behind his head that actor could also dislocate his arm sockets--they did not use a false arm for the scene. so houdini could do some amazing things including regurgitating keys and use a shoestring to unlock locks
