It's refreshing to hear people admit to being shit employees. I was one of them for over a decade! The funny thing is, my last job was as a VP of Product Development at a Law Firm. I couldn't figure out why people were giving me the opportunities. It eventually boiled down to the fact that I'm great at maintaining relationships and sales but awful at office politics, process, and had a tendency to question authority DAILY. My MBA was a 120k work permit lol. I now work for myself and am SEVERELY underpaid like BARELY higher than minimum wage BUT I'm happy as fuck and my schedule is built around my life and what's important to me and my family. Money isn't everything but it certainly helps. I wasn't willing to wait until retirement to enjoy life. I know it will be a few more years until I can close the financial gap but trudging into an office building everyday is not the way I want to live.

The job I just had recently just set me free.. had nothing to do with my work ethic.. I was simply better than the management, and they didn't like that. (Almost) everyone liked me.. but them.

My question is this. Now that Mark is the 'big boss,' how does he treat an employee that had the same traits as he did when he was an employee?
Tech entrepreneur CEOs have a very different mindset than middle management.
I can guarantee Mark Cuban would likely encourage that employee to work harder within the company. Instead of encouraging some hierarchy of power.
I think he tries to motivate them I remember him saying he gives stocks to employees so they'll want to work harder
it is not smart to fire an employee who is dedicated to make YOU more money. it`s fear of loosing control.

I went through the same thing with my all my bosses. They limit your responsibilities and therefore limit my potential just so they can have the satisfaction of knowing that I did exactly what they told me to do. Now read this carefully but usually, I was assigned dumb things when people of less capability were assigned the jobs I preferred. Sure you can argue that have I done these things I would have been assigned the jobs I wanted to do. But for a long time I did and I still saw people get assigned the jobs I wanted to do.
I started to notice and it was evident that they were playing favorites. They would ask me to do this meaningless task that needed to be done because everyone else was either slow at it or just didn't do so well. So fire them or write them up? no let's just have them do the better task.
I then started to refuse these task like everyone else and was put into the position that I wanted in the first place and the new people did the task we all didn't want to do. I had a few minutes of satisfactions and then realized this may work for this job but I can't carry this habit to my career, immediately I quit.
Its not that I can't work for someone else its that I can't work somewhere that promotes bad work ethics. Life has been amazing since.
Josue rodriguez genuinely interested in what you're doing now. I'm in the same situation now. I've demanded more responsibility,I've demanded a better position, and honestly I just thinks my boss feels I'm a direct threat to him. I won't get any of these without putting in a year of meaningless work, all just to make $2 more dollars an hour. Scree that. Don't waste me time.

When you're wired for excellence, sometimes it's hard to not outshine the master.

Don't get me wrong it is very human to have weak spots everybody has them .
But when it comes to business If somebody is not discplined enough to keep their ego in check.
Can you not see the treachery that lies ahead if you decide to go down a path that was paved by that kinda of person.
Personally I don't care how rude or bullying a person is to me as long as there is mutual respect we are good to go . Beacuse if it's is about winning with style
there won't be any energy left to cater to my own ego let alone someone's else's.
So always best to do your due diligence on somebody before deciding to going on journey with them especially if the outcome of the journey is uncertain.
That is why I think a consultant is the best way foward for certain ppl who have a certain kinda mindset.
Beacuse you can present what you think is the best way foward to person/ organization get your money and be out and it will be up to them whether they implement the changes needed or not. And if the ship sinks you won't be on it.
And always have side business cuz if that goes tits up you can't blame anyone but yourself.
Ppl are very complicated as they are already and when you add money,ego, power and prestige into the mix prepare your self for a toxic mixture that can blow up anytime for the pettyiest of reasons.

I felt the same way. Finished college. Had a job in college and after college. I was a great employee but I would still do things MY way. I always had trouble being bossed around simply because nobody knew my job position better than me and figured why should somebody less educated in my position tell me what to do? Now i'm a cryptocurrency and stock trader, and a personal trainer, as well as starting my PhD soon.

Some people just have that entrepreneurial system and desire built into them. They don't work well with "bosses" and instead would rather become a Leader. That is what makes a great business, its Leaders. Anyone can be a boss, but it takes a certain person to be a Leader. What advice do you have for those looking for Leadership?
You have to be born with leadership qualities. Sure, you can try to practice leadership all you want, but the best leaders are born leaders. It's in their blood. If you aren't born with leadership qualities, you have to start practicing them at a young age. If you get to the age of 30 and you don't have leadership qualities, sorry but you're going to be a follower the rest of your life. It's unfortunate, but it's reality.
Com Ment nah I think that people that believe one is born with leadership abilities are the ones that fail. Although one can be raised to be a leader it'll be easier for them in the future but if they never had that advantage, leadership abilities can still be achieved with dedication, hard work,and slow but steady growth

Not surprising, many great entrepreneurs have histories of getting fired from jobs and having a hard time fitting into a job and other things that society deems "normal." Entrepreneurs know that life is too short to take orders and be somebody else's leverage, so they start businesses.

Im currently in the phase of being a shitty employee and tbh i am trying, but then i see how little the boss gives a damn about what i want and how i can change things, that im thinking of starting my own thing, i might and will fail but at least ill be working towards my dream to be my own boss.

Yep, I've been through the "you work for me/you need to check with me first" crap too...can't do it, just can't. Now I don't need a multibillion-dollar company a la Mark Cuban and frankly don't even think I would want that (I don't need to be "the man," don't need the headaches, etc.). But what I am doing is getting ready to launch a K - 5 reading tutoring business: Level Up Reading LLC. If there's an elementary age student who isn't reading on grade level, I'll work with them and get them reading on grade level in 12 weeks on average. I'm finishing up working with two students in my community for free (to hone my skills), will work with one more student for free and then I'm launching thereafter.
This is what I do now, there's no plan B and there never will be, that's it.

I do agree being an employee for someone else does not progress your own business ventures. Once you start your own business, you are going to need employees to work for you. So I don’t know why people emphasize being an employee is horrible. Theres this big debate that being an employee is a curse & to never be one. How else does everyones business grow without employees ? Those type of statements just don’t make sense sometimes.
Ever heard of partnership? You don't have to employ people to run buisness; you can simply work together with them and then divide up the earnings. Or simply give your workers control over their work (also known as socialism).
