@@ksan1648 Well, you just reminded me. A lady pianist has just heard his Turkish March on a mp3 player for the first time. Well, she said, that was a four hands rendition. Well, I said, I don't know how many hands he has got, but he played it alone. Well, she said, how can I tell, not being a pianist? Well, I said, I better call another pianist friend on the phone. He told her, it was Volodos only, and only then she sort of believed it, half way. She is a rather good pianist, btw.
I know. I tried playing this on piano and I realize how insane the octave jumps are and the fact the melody shares both the left and right hand creating the illusion that 2 people are playing. It’s unbelievable what Horowitz wrote.
Volodos is probably the best technically equipped pianist I have ever heard. Notice how the audience is fanning themselves. It's probably 85 degrees F. in that room. Imagine how warm it was for Volodos! sanjosemike
Man this piece is hard! It doesn't seem hard when you watch it, but getting the three things going at the same time, the base, melody, and piccolo, is very challenging.
I don't like it when people compare Volodos to Horowitz-He's nothing like him. He's Volodos, Horowitz is Horowitz. Nobody's the "new Horowitz" just as nobody's gonna be the "new Volodos". Everyone's their own musician.
Horowitz once heard a student transcribing something and yelled at him, 'What are you doing?" The student responded, "You do it all the time." Horowitz said, "Don't be a second Horowitz. Be a first yourself." Anyone who plays this will inevitably be compared to Horowitz, and come up short.
And some people think yuja Wang is the greatest pianist. I hate people who always have to compare one person's talents to another instead of just acknowledgeing each person's talent which I myself dont always do but its impossible to not comment on this man's unique greatness for interpretation and technical ability. I love how he seems to acknowledge the audiences approval with expressions of uncertainty about his greatness. 😆
@madison0wilkes You have a point, but he is playing it at Sousa's tempo. And before you ask me how I know this, there are NUMEROUS 78 rpm recordings of the Sousa Band playing this during Sousa's lifetime. Although assistant conductor Arthur Pryor usually conducted the recording sessions, we can assume that they followed Sousa's wishes as to tempo.
I think that your piano performances of arrangements of well-known pieces of Classical Music are truly very important for the World of Classical Music. I liked the video so much! I think that many people will like you and Classical Music, if you arrange many pieces of it.
listen to the interpretation of Moment Musical no.2 in Es-moll (Rachmaninoff) by Volodos, that is expression in music! I saw Volodos live, 2 times, and he is my number 1 favorite pianist. however, horowitz and kissin are, as you say, very good expressionist artists as well ;) (I have all of Volodos' albums, and they are absolutely amazing)
Magnificent! Russian pianist at a music festival in Poland plays USA patriotic march arranged by émigré from the USSR to the USA. THEY know what's up because they lived through it. Americans are forgetting, and we MUST remember.
Great playing, but it's difficult if not impossible to keep comparing with the actual Horowitz performance..... his personality was very strong, and he ALWAYS gave you the impression he was playing the same piece in a different way.....
thank jesus he´s alive.. I´ll see him live two times near the ending of this year!!! in the Concert Gebouw in Amsterdam and in Rotterdam I believe.. he will perform the 3rd piano concerto by rachmaninoff there.. he's my favourite pianist by far. cheers!
@davidgray2 I fully agree with you. Comparing Gilels with Gould, Haebler with Berman, Kempff with Cziffra... what's the point ? A cordial greeting, Geert Dehoux, pianist.
Except Horowitz himself lol, you should listen to his version. But really nice job guy who played, nice interpretation, infact i like yours more than Horowitz because your not banging the bass notes with your left hand... Thx person who uploaded it too.
Nobody has mentioned Cziffra. He would of torn this piece apart with no mistakes. Have a listen to Volodos playing Cziffra's Sabre dance. He can't cope.
+Mike Lauderback Walk as you listen and see what a natural pace it is. A military march standard tempo is 120. This is about 125, which is still not too fast for marching. It's just got a lot of notes per beat. That doesn't mean the tempo is too fast.
It is really unbeleivable what this human can do on the piano..
Yeah, sounds like two people are sitting on the bench.

Liszt isn't human, is an Hungarian like Cziffra lil
I mean lol

Without doubt one of the greatest pianist's that ever lived.
Ever lived?? He's still alive..
@@PP-wp2bxthose terms are not mutually exclusive.
@@AinSoph73 he is one of the pianists of all time
Watching it again on 7/4/2021. Fantastic version. He brings out the piccolo better than anyone.
Watching this video... Sunday 12 August 2023 👏👏👏👍👍👍
@@dtang3288me too
Man, I love his facial expression after he is done.
"Damn, I can't believe i nailed this biatch."
They see perhaps the most brilliant pianist alive and say "Let's get the shittiest potato camera we have and record him with that."
Come on!
ikr
You're obviously not aware of the concept of Polish aesthetics
Probably not the fault of the equipment but the video itself was severely wounded by numerous phases of convertion.
It’s an old VHS recording. It’s no one’s fault. That’s what happens to old vhs tapes when they age.
Gosh I love Volodos. He's always in a massive sweat whenever he plays. He's the best interpreter of Horowitz though.
I love the enormous STEINWAY on the piano ^^
Volodos is probably the best technically equipped pianist I have ever heard. Notice how the audience is fanning themselves. It's probably 85 degrees F. in that room. Imagine how warm it was for Volodos!

Simply incredible! The best performance of this piece I have heard
Mother of God..... Those thirds-trill in the end...... This is beyond human.
Was thinking the same thing. Volodos just might be a mutant.
Volodos piano playing is beyond imagination.
This song is perfect for the 4th of July!
Man this piece is hard! It doesn't seem hard when you watch it, but getting the three things going at the same time, the base, melody, and piccolo, is very challenging.
yes, I also find it challenging.

It's funny the way he nods his head at the end as if to say "you know, that wasn't too bad". Tremendous!
Tru!
@MrSuavita
I heard Arcadi play this as an encore in Rotterdam, 1999.
And that was ABSOLUTELY perfect!!
Cordially,
Geert Dehoux, pianist.

He played sooooo well that I got goosebumps all over!!
So we have a Russian pianist playing an American song in Poland. This is multi-cultural.
A brilliant pianist... very good!!!
When I'm finished with Volodos' Turkish March I'm gonna try this one, I have the sheet music here already.
Love this piece
Have you mastered it yet? It's been 14 years...

skill level: RUSSIAN.
ProteusX2 higher than asian
Andrew Fitzgerald-Piano Russian has bigger hands than Asian

Pretty sure Hungarian is even higher level than Asian and Russian
Савецкий....
Thanks. This is cleaner than the older RUclips upload out there. Such a great performance.

those trills are epic!!!!
He plays with emotion! what a pianist....
I have watched many a video with Volodos as the performer, and I must say that he consistently gives flawless performances.
Bravo!
HOLY OCTAVES BATMAN!!
you said it. it is one of my favorite pieces
listen to the music. its so soothing./
Amazing!!! Absolutely outstanding!
I have no doubt that if put to it, Volodos could write another version for it! :D
Wow! Just as good as Horowitz.
HAHA I love his face at 3:42.
What an amazing piece, happy veterans day to all americans out there.
that's incredibly difficult! Kudos to Arcadi.
FABULOUS !!!!!!!
Absolutely outstanding!
So incredible! I loved it!
Definition of Virtuoso .
originally it's from john phillip sousa but volodos horwitz variations.

LOL damn, his facial exp is just priceless after that.
"Holy hell, i can't believe i just played this."
I'd swear that the last chorus is a duet for four hands...
Não me canso de assistir... surreal!
まさに神業です!すばらしい!!
That guy KILLLED it! . . In the most excellent way.
freakin awesome greta piano player
i gotta get dis arrangement
Absolutely breathless
I love to see Kieth Emmerson try this one on for size!
FABULOUS
I love the force of this guy. It remember me to Wagner

no doubt about it, but Volodos here is the most famous transcriptor of piano pieces here.
Thanks a lot. Cleared up stuff for me.
I would hazard a guess that the venue he is not air-conditioned judging by the people fanning themselves
It's the 4th of July, probably in New Orleans or Florida or somewhere very muggy.
volodos is a master :P
i found his interpetation of this pice the best
This piece is a real bitch to play at that tempo. Volodos does a real good job.
AMAZING!!!
you all commentes. i agree that he is the most magnificent piano player that ever lived.
This is astonishing.
This would be perfect if he slowed down and played it like horowitz wanted it to be played like a real millitary march
His performance is so hot, the audience has to cool down with fans. 😅
BRAVO!
wow what an amazing movie3
The keys were smoking.
@Jim341046 Volodos has played Cziffra's Sabre Dance? I couldn't find it....
He´s the MAN!!

I can play this at about half this tempo, and I think if I ever tried to play it at this tempo, I'd injure myself.
wow his right hand is like listening to birds
Nobody has mentioned Cziffra. He would of torn this piece apart with no mistakes. Have a listen to Volodos playing Cziffra's Sabre dance. He can't cope.
December 1. in Amsterdam, i'll be there too.
I would even think there are four hands playing that part if I just hear the performance.
@partgreen but it was only a note, thats not any problem, all masters make mistakes sometimes
Haha! Go, Volodos! (I thought I saw a 3rd hand there??) (joke.)
god damn that looks hard to play!!!
Anyone know where i can dowload this, the one played by Volods?
good one.
This guy is pushing a rock up a hill and these mofos in the audience fanning themselves like they done somethin'
I thought the Composer's name was Sousa ?!?!?!?!
maybe even fifty. i doubt it, but he is 1 good pianist.
Bravo!
Horowitz did sue (settled I think. They definitely slowed it down, by the way. Still, pretty-dern good!!
its just disgusting how good he is. he is a sick, sick man.
noo!! manca il fantastico tema dei tromboni nel trio... sarebbe bastata una terza mano per farlo:)
아ㄹ카디 볼로도스.. 그의 파워는 최강이다..
i know his latest variations are also from horowitz.
Im not dissing on his skill, but It felt like it was too fast. Its a march, not a jog.

Bands usually play this way too fast as well
Volodos colluded with President Trump. Pure greatness.
my favorite parts are 1:45 and 2:41 where he's doing that descending whatchamacallit.
heh, good point, same goes to his version of Mozart's turkish march and wedding march...
