    Majora's Mask 3D World Record by Iwabi: • 【旧世界記録】ムジュラの仮面3D Any% ...
In this video, I attempted to complete a speedrun of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, a remake of the original Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 3DS. This game is much different from the original, containing different game breaking strategies, glitches, boss fights, and even movement. In this video I attempted it using the Restoration Patch, a fan-made fix of the game that patches back in the Infinite Sword Glitch to the 3D release, as well as fixing the Goron Link, Zora Link, and Deku Link movement. As a Majora's Mask Speedrunner, I thought this challenge run would be easy, but it was not.

Well, since this was without a pre made route and stuff, might as well do a wall of text talking about a lot of tech 3D has. Pretty fun video, by the way!
    1. About the Clock Town Escape, yeah, the old one doesn't work. For runs you normally do a Deku Flower Slide(what you did to skip Snowhead BK) by using a Deku Flower for restricted items, and there is a really obscure method similar to the old one using a day transition to make it work, but no one uses that.
    2. The damage boost to get to Great Bay Early and others similar to that still work...kinda. They changed the behavior of bombs for damage boosting(which might be the reason doing a recoil flip like you do for GBT BK Skip like in original doesn't work), but enemies still work the exact same. For GB early you just do Deku Flower Slide anyway, but if you want to do it it works. Glitchless banned it because of the bomb changes though.
    3. Long Jumps are buffed for some reason. For example, the recoil flip+ damage boost you do in no ISG can be replicated with a long jump, and by doing it with Zora you can get to the torch and if you don't void out from touching the flames you can get another jump which then makes it all the way to the other side(This one in specific is used by old any%/what would the equivalent of NMG for this game. Since SRM is only important for Moonwarp for now the categories aren't separate, so old any% is All Dungeons minus the Moonwarp at the end to skip a few cutscenes.)
    4. You can still do Alt Exit, the difference is that you use Goron Missile for it. For Snowhead you can use it for Lullaby Skip together with Down A so you don't get blown away.(Any% no Wrong Warp does it, if anyone wants to take a look at it)
    5. Hookshot is broken even though weirdshot is not a thing anymore. Any% no WW shows it pretty well, but hookshot has some weird behavior when you go into First Person Glitch, so you can just extend the chain wherever you shoot it, so you can skip the entirety of Snowhead and the BK using this.
    6. The Tatl Alarm feature gives you a textbox pretty much anywhere, so you can do action swap anywhere. It works inside Goht's room as well, so Fire Arrows don't really matter.
    7. There is a quick kill method for Gyorg that skips the phase where you make him eat the mines in the water, but it's extremely hard to pull off.
    8. You can skip the Goht remains cutscene by doing a Goron Missile out of bounds as you get the remains. Another piece of tech that NMG doesn't get to do but no WW does.
    9. For getting into Pirate's Fortress you would either do Goron Missile if you already had the bow or just do a Mask Jump so a long jump with Zora can make it.
    10. The cutscene you get when playing New Wave Bossa Nova to the turtle can be skipped, but it's pretty different. The gist of it is that you need to position yourself close to the loading zone, place a bomb so it pushes you into the load zone, play the song as the bomb explodes and then open the Bomber's Notebook so the cutscene is delayed by one more frame and you enter the loading zone, skipping the cutscene.
    11. For the Great Bay Boss Key Skip you can do something a bit similar to the old one if you didn't want to go for the Goron Missile. Just clip where you do for the old one, and then use a MM3D exclusive glitch named PACE to go to the loading zone from there instead of a recoil flip.
    12. There is no way to dupe the zora eggs so far, so either you Wrong Warp into Goht to skip them or you have to collect them all.
    13. ESS bottle duping still works on version 1.0 of MM3D, so you can do that for extra bottles for the eggs and for Bottle Adventure. If you are on 1.1 you need to do the curiosity shop bottle dupe instead.
    14. By doing Goron Missile in a slope you can get a lot of height. You can do a lot with it, including doing the whole Stone Tower Climb by using Goron Missile.
    15. You actually got the Boss Key Skip pretty well in Stone Tower. There is another version in the first room of inverted that saves a bit of time, but the one you use is easier and not that much slower.
    16. You can still do jumpslash cancelling in 3D, it wasn't patched. I haven't seen used on Majora aside from Deku Sword, but it still works.
This was extremely long and I hope I didn't forget anything...

I believe they made Clock Town itself bigger so all of the areas would physically fit together. In the original game, the areas would clip into one another if you merged them in a physical map, but in tne remake, they would actually fit together on a single map, I believe.
As for a bunch of the other changes, I think they tried to make a lot of the game's logic/puzzles more approachable to newcomers. I remember needing to use a walkthrough as a kid because a lot of Majora's Mask's puzzles were quite esoteric... but I wasn't exactly a brilliant kid, so idk

i've been playing it this week on an emulator (on steam deck) and I've been really surprised about how much they changed!
A lot is weird (they weren't kidding about the giant eyes on the bosses lol), but a lot of stuff they added is dope . For example, the bombers notebook is actually useful. Also there's a Navi (or whatever her name is) alarm function where she'll remind you that you have to be somewhere. You can warp to an exact time with the Song of Double Time, and I think slow speed is _slightly_ less slow, but I might just be imagining that part. Oh, and you get two extra slots on the touchscreen which is kinda neat

@@idontwantahandlethough I knew about the inventory system and the improved bombers notebook. But things like the inverted song of time being 1/2 speed instead of 1/3 I did not. Even with this restoration patch, they changed to much to make it feasible for serious speedrunning.

hey Jake, I wanted your opinion on something, obviously Majoras Mask 3D ruined a lot of cool features and made a lot of questionable boss changes, but have you played Ocarina of Time 3D? I am getting a 3DS soon and was pondering if I should play OoT on 3DS, even though I already own it on N64 and WiiVC

ocarina of time 3d is great, they didn’t make any changes like majoras mask 3d. the better graphics, framerate, etc makes it worth playing imo

So I've never played MM64, but I've poured hundreds of hours into MM3D. I'd go as far as to say that MM3D is my favorite zelda game. Would it be worth it for me to play MM64? Would I enjoy it more or just as much? If so, am i better off emulating or investing in an N64 and cartridge.

MM3D is not a remake, it's a remaster. You proved that yourself by saying Grezzo "patched a ton of glitches." You can't patch out glitches if the game is an actual remake with new code. In fact, many glitches discovered in both OoT3D and MM3D after release were found to work in the older games, proving all Grezzo did was update code and not remake the game, and also proves Grezzo lied about patching in glitches to mimic the old games. No offense, but you really shouldn't be making videos on the topic if you can't get terms right.

A remaster is typically referred to as something that pretty much only updates graphics.
A remake is something that changes not only graphics, but core mechanics of a game to appeal to wider audience.
MM3D is a remake, and it was made to attempt to appeal to a wider audience with some extremely good QoL changes, such as an extra C-Button, easier saving, Song of Double Time going hour by hour instead of day/night, free-cam, movement of key places to be easier to spot, and more. Some of these changes completely missed the bar, such as the bank being moved, Zora's swimming changes, and the reworked boss fights, but this most definitely acts as a separate game. No one introduces MM3D as ONLY Majora's Mask with different graphics.
Imagine saying "Resident Evil 4 got a REMASTER in 2023", when it is most definitely remake.
As for your point of saying "you can't patch out glitches", so what are they supposed to do, create entirely new code? Why? Why would you create all of that extra work? The code needs to be tweaked heavily in ways to match the newer systems they want to implement, and some things WILL be redone completely, but there is absolutely no point in redoing everything. It's your generic "Work smarter, Not harder" trope. By your logic, the original Majora's Mask is just a remaster of Ocarina of Time, because they reused a lot of the code.
