bullshit. use your imagination. we live under a handful of kings rule right now, in fact we always have. what do you think a super rich person is? a modern day equivalent to a king. when you see a common working citizen become president then you can say we dont live under some equivalent to a king. what do you think electoral voting is? it was started with the notion that common working people are not intelligent enough to choose their own ruler. how naive can you be? only someone who wants to be king believes crap like that. oppression is more than a ruler being an ass. we ARE oppressed. when the politicians play their games back and forth causing the citizens to struggle that is a form of oppression. we are stuck under their thumbs.
that great document is worthless. prime example: what we just went through where a president thinks he is immune to anything in that document, and, if reelected you will see him destroy that great document and wipe his ass with it again. only a king would do that and get away with it. all those men accomplished was putting down on paper what already was, just a new twist on the same old thing.

I have been saying this about career politicians for decades. They are the bane of the republic. The Founders never even conceived the idea of career politicians. The concept they dealt with was that representatives and senators would spend about six months in D.C. and go back home to their farms or businesses in between. They were paid a per diem (initially $6/ day) while they were in D.C., not a salary. This was because being a legislator was considered to be a part-time job. It had always been a part-time job from the inception of colonial legislatures long before the revolution. They figured it always would be. It wasn't until 1855 that members of Congress voted themselves an annual salary, initially $3000 a year, that the possibility of being a professional politician came about. And they've been taking advantage of the opportunity ever since.

Thomas, if we just had one person with some influence tell the people to not look to the government to be wise or generous, but look to themselves to give what they can to those less fortunate and teach as many as they can. Proverbial wisdom like The Handbook of Illustrated Proverbs from the 19th Century is a good place to start, as is Franklin's proverbs. Even a homeless person can create value by giving half of something they found to another homeless person. No one with any influence in this country has any of this kind of wisdom.

The cultured aspects of determination to drive through a challenge to build not just something but the right thing is not achievable without very difficult relationships both with yourself, others and the material universe.

Knowledge is power and education is not bad, unless it omits basic things at the beginning, which are: 200-300 years ago part of a basic education first taught the student HOW to think, and what was head knowledge and what was heart knowledge and how to discern what truth was and the difference between the two , and also that knowledge had the tendency to make people proud and close them off from furthur learning if they weren’t aware of their ego and learn how to walk humbly. Nowadays I beleive colleges go in the opposite direction and teach people WHAT to think instead of how to think properly, therefore they get prideful of their education and think they know more that others and have no understanding of their ego and no understand of heart knowledge and how to recognize their pride. So they think they are uniquely qualified to teach and lead society when they are truly blind and disqualified and have no idea that they need to have experienced people in their lives to help them get back in touch with reality.

This may be the lowest point in US political history. It certainly feels like that with Harris running for President.

I believe what the Bible teaches. Politics is never going to solve our problems. People are not qualified to rule over themselves. Since the beginning of written history, man has dominated man to his injury. That isn't going to change until God establishes his kingdom here on earth.

You keep asking Sowell "why?" Because their secret intention is TO TEAR IT DOWN!! They haven't had to suffer real consequences for anything else, why would they have to over this?

This is a misuse of the label "intellectual". An intellectual engages in what we call critical thinking. The types populating the offices of power Sowell refers to are simply the children of the powerful, of the elite, who have been raised in a closed mutual admiration society and rewarded for their superior and elegant ability to produce propaganda in support of that elite. If they did engage in real critical thinking, that would immediately brand them as "radical", "conspiratorial", and "eccentric", and therefore bar them from becoming an official public "intellectual". To quote Frank Zappa, if you want to get laid, go to college, if you want an education, go to a library.

Life experience is essential for someone to be in public offfice, especially as the President of our Country. Kamala Harris is a prime example of someone who has no right to even contemplate running for President.

mr Sowell is one of the greatest philosophers of our time, but because he doesn't fit the left or the right's mold he isn't given as much exposure. I don't get the same vibe that he doesn't care or is an asshole like from most of the right's current speaking heads. Its obvious why the left doesn't like him, but the right also has many positions which aren't listening to the compassion that mr Sowell speaks with. The empathy of coming from a leftist youth is important.
