Hi ya! I have been making sour dough for years. More recently also bagels, inpired by Lisa.😊 I have found that a simple dinner plate over my Kitchen Aid bowl keeps me from having to use plastic wrap while fermenting ;-) Love to see you in your beautiful kitchen, creating.❤
❤I will never forget all the kitchen time I had with my babies. The best is 2 days in a row my daughter Grace threw flour from 10lb bags around the kitchen saying it’s snowing. I immediately began using containers rather than working from bags and never left her out of my sight even in the same room as me. 😂 She’s 27 now and makes the best sugar cookies! 😊
I love that you address what you can get done while your daughter is awake! This is something that so many of my friends seem to struggle with, and I just don’t understand why….my life is entertaining to my kids, and whatever I’m doing, they just play at my feet essentially 😊 obviously there are some seasons that are easier than others. But even now as a mom of two, I find that there is so much I can accomplish in the wake time.😃
My thoughts on the apple pie filling: if you like really soft filling I can see the advantage to cooking. But if you like still having distinguishable slices with a bit of a bite, cooking would take that away. Since I'm not a huge fan of apple pies getting too mushy, I'll stick to not pre-cooking apples. Do what works for you. 😉 On a different note, I love the idea of picking one homemaking skill to work on each year. Not that I can't work on other things as well but spending so long focusing on one will really help build confidence. Then you can keep it going once you add the next skill.
I slice my apples really, really thin. For that reason they get nice and soft when I bake my pie. Your apple slices are more substantial, so it makes sense that they are nicer when cooked ahead of baking the pie ❤
I use a mandolin to get those really thin slices and macerate in sugar and cinnamon for 30” or so. It makes the apples tender crisp. Best apple pie I ever made.
I find your videos so refreshing. You're right, everything happens in the perfect time. Trust and believe that. I'm excited to see where the year take you
Your videos keep getting better and better. You’re doing great. I am also curious and always wanting to learn new things even at my age of 50 and after five kids and two grandkids…. Things maybe different for me but definitely not slowing down and stopping learning new things . As you said we have the rest of our life to learn new things. Thanks so much for your inspiration… I too may bake my first pie soon after seeing yours…. My mother is a great pie baker but she never taught me so I think I will take your lead and use Lisa’s recipe and make my first pie. Hugs from one older mama to a much younger one ❤
Precooking apples. It just depends on what kind of texture you want in your final product. Some people like a soft, mushy apple pie, some like a more firm apple in the baked pie. I like both and cant imagine ever turning away a piece of any pie. Lol.
Love to see how you have progressed with your baking. You are learning so many skills. I too use to have my kids underfoot when I was in the kitchen. My oldest would play with measuring cups, etc. while I was in the kitchen. She is now 32.
"Active" does not have a set speed. It is a rhythm, not so much speed. It is movement. It is most similar to movement in time. Rhythm. I like the paper version of recipes. I like that you are thoughtful in how you do things for your family. I am subscribed to your sister's channel. I enjoy her content. I found you through both your sisters, as I watch and am subscribed to all three of you. Thank you for your content here.
Thank you for sharing this encouragement today! I was feeling very overwhelmed and discouraged this morning and God used your video to speak to me. Thank you!
Ohhhh, the Caraway colors are so beautiful! They need a Build Your Own Set for people like me who can't decide on just one color ; D All the baked goods look beautifully delicious❤ and, hold on, was that a 2 cup measuring cup?? I had no idea they excised, lol. My sour dough started finally turned out. I have some recipes picked out from Lisa's book. Your beautiful stove is so clean. One would never know how much cooking and baking you do! Happy New Year!
Ooo that's a good idea!! And yes - someone gifted me a non-standard measuring cup set at my bridal shower and they are so handy! It's from crate and barrel. ;) thank you so much!
I love the new color cookware set so much better than the yellow. That bright yellow did not make your kitchen look as "vintage" as the new set! You could use the yellow to cook with and just use the new set for display. Nice to have that option! xo Nancy from OHIO
Greetings from Germany. 😊 I'm so glad to hear that you're full of ideas and inspiration! Thank you for sharing your joy and your amazing culinary successes with us. 🤗 I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of baking sweets. But I love watching the process, and I can only imagine how delicious it turns out for you! I hope you always feel as energetic, beautiful, and full of inspiration as you do now! 😊❤ Ich grüße Sie herzlich aus Deutschland!
I wish I knew what those last things you made were. We’re they small bagel bites? I’ve never made bagels, but my daughter-in-law has. Great video. You looked so cute in your plaid skirt. I bet you made that.

Hahah oh noo! It's funny now! That's sweet that she still bakes!

I cook my apples for pie as well! I prefer my apples soft rather than crunchy. It's the best way!
Your lattice is gorgeous. I agree about cooking the apples. A bit of a bite is fine but I don't want it all too firm.
Yes I enjoy them a little softer! Thanks!
