Cobra maneuvering looks good in movies, videogames, and during airshows, but fighter v fighter combat takes place in ranges from over 100 miles (160 km) to one mile (1600 meters) away. At cannon ranges, a cobra will ensure that 20mm or 23mm rounds are distributed evenly all over your aircraft. At long ranges, it will have no effect on the missile that is targeting you.
Most of those aircraft probably had anti stall features so no matter how hard pilots pulled up on the stick it wouldn’t be able to snap back into a cobra

The Draken was an unstable aircraft in a time before FCS was a thing. This maneuver was originally used to train stall recovery. With the technology of the time it also wasn’t quite useless, as to employ weapons you needed to be in a nose-to-tail position. *But yeah, it’s essentially instant 💀 in a furball nowadays, with HOBs and HMDs.
Isn’t it 70 degrees for it to be considered IRL? This whole 90 degrees came from folks who didn’t create ye maneuver lol. It’s like claiming a recipe needs to have 2,000lbs of sugar otherwise it isn’t it when the original says 2 cups. Not how that works.
I mean try it in DCS or a real simulator. Also reaching 90 degrees of AOA doesn't mean it is a cobra, as a cobra requires not gaining or losing too much altitude.
“Russian aircraft are far more manoeuvrable!” Yeah, those manoeuvres won’t really save you from the stealth fighter that’s been on your 4 and a half gen fighters for 30 minutes and you don’t even know it’s there.

By “swept wing” do u mean swing wings like the f14 tomcat? Just I’ve never heard of them called swept wings

@RandomMackem0069 it just depends on where you are from whether it's swing wing or sweep wing

The J35 was literally the first aircraft to perform the maneuver I think so obviously it would be able to do it at least in my opinion
It can

The draken invented the cobra by accident but ended being the most iconic thing in Russia……. I blame Sweden for this!!!!!

As other commenters have said, the Saab J-35 Draken (Dragon in English) was the aircraft with which the Cobra maneuver was invented.
The Draken was the first jet to do the cobra maneuver.
You can actually do the spinning cobra thing in the last one
Its called kvochur's bell
fun fact the first plane to do a cobra was the the J35A Draken
The draken was the first plane ever to do the cobra manuever
The draken should realistically be able to perform the cobra way easier than it does in game right now
The -Cobra- Kort Parad manoeuvre!
Draken is kind of plane with enough maneuverability to do Cobra, python or even boa if you'd want to
Wouldn’t exactly use war thunder as a reliable source of aerodynamic information.
its actually accurate the dragon or draken in swedish was the first airframe to perform the manuver before it was popularized by pugachev
This "jump scare cat" its me then I stend up in 6 o'clock to go to school
The Draken invented the Cobra
j35 drake. was the first ever jet to perform the cobra maneuver irl
J35A Drake
No surprise the Draken can do it as it was the first aircraft to ever do so IRL

For people who don’t know what an F24 it is a Modified version of the F14 TomCat but with sweep wings
👌
I saw this on my home page and was fully expecting to play slowed down macarena

We all know the draken can perform the cobra, it invented it😂😂
You just did a Tomcat here...

The J35 was the first aircraft to cobra, so I’d hope it could cobra.
The Draken is the first fighter to perform the Cobra.
The draken was the first plane to do it
The Drakken literally invented the Cobra.
I love non Swedish people say draken😂
Edit: nothing personal its just sounds fun
this is why i like and play warthunder @Warthunder thanks for making your game i love it❤
I don’t know wouldn’t be easier just to ask an experience pilot instead of playing video games my God this is really a discussion
This guy can even do it with C150 if he's paid to...🙂
Another condition: the aircraft cannot change its direction of flight. The AOA must reach 90 degrees without changing the aircraft's flight path
My favorite fighter jet is actually Draken
Any plane can as long as you push it enough
Any aircraft can do a cobra
You just need higher speed
Aircraft tested: J35A drake💀
Do it slower, most aircraft need slow speeds
No?
400-800
Please do more of these, I love watching and trying to guess which planes can and can’t cobra!

J35 was the first irl
Ofc the draken did it, it literally invented it!
Jf-17 does a flip
How did you get the AOA indicator?
Only the first attempt is count.
It really doesn’t. It’s either can or can’t. It’s not like hitting a target
how do you play any planes in WT? Did you unlock them in the first place or some other method

A cobra is when you have forwarded movement well gliding it is not 90 deg it is keeping its forwards speed well holding that forward glide
It’s funny how the Draken can’t do it even though it’s the first plane to do it in history
It did do it...
It can easily draken. Also, this dude does not know how to cobra properly

Well 90 degree aoa and not much change in altitude kinda go hand in hand, since you are flying perpendicular to the way your nose is pointing.

J35A: ✅️
No kidding, the Swedes invented the cobra
Thankyou
The draken can do it at the takeoff
Can u try the f86 Sabre
Try the PBM-1 Mariner
There is something great about the designs and shapes of Russian migs and sukhois that they have much greater maneuverability than American fighters.
It’s more than destroyed. It has been erased from existence.

Try the first bomer

I played the Drakan and died cause accidentally pull a cobra I also got 4 kills
It’s 110 degrees actually
Just my opinion, but I think the second pullback shouldn't count. It needs to be able to do it from level flight.
The second pull back doesn’t actually give it more speed. It’s actually just the slower speed of the aircraft allowing it to work better next time
How do you get the AOA on the side of your screen
