    We just switched to BJU Press math grade 4 last month! My son really struggles with math and has special needs. After trying numerous math curriculums, this has been the best fit for my son. I have really been happy with it so far!

    Thank you so much for posting your math curriculum journey! I’ve been torn as to which program to get for my son going into 4th grade. This video was so helpful and I’m going to go with Bju :)

    I like the idea you use of splitting the Lesson and Review. I'm going to try that with my daughter with TGTB. There's a lesson section then a review page also.

      Yes! It has really been nice. It encourages independence and shortens our lesson time - which is a win-win for me! Hope it works well for you too!

    We have loved BJU Press for elementary math! I hope it continues to work great for you! After grade 4 it phases out, but a lot of the "story" element and biblical worldview integration happen in the teacher's book, so if you can find one in your budget, it would be a great addition.

      Also, often the updated edition does not change up the lessons or most of the problems in the lesson, so you could find a previous edition for a fraction of the price and still get the answer key.

    This is how MWC 3 is set up and it works so well. I teach the lesson to my daughter while she works through those problems in her workbook (basically the work text concept). Then she has a practice page of that lesson to do independently and a review section that goes over previous lessons. It’s good to know there’s another curriculum option that follows a similar format.

    • @simplylearningtogether651
      @simplylearningtogether651  11 месяцев назад +2

      Yes!! I noticed that too as I’ve been looking at MWC 3. I love that. I may try to do the same type of breaking up with my other daughter using MWC. It’s hard for her to do the lesson and review in one sitting so that’s my plan when we get there 🤞🏻❤️ I’ve noticed too that MWC 2 has kind of transitioned into that as well. The lesson is on the first page and review on the back. I like that.

    I am debating between trying this or sticking with Math With Confidence.
    It’s nothing wrong with MWC but with six kids it has become a lot for me to keep up with.
    How would you compare BJU to MWC?

    We love BJU! Thanks for sharing the Math 4, that’s what we will be doing this next year!
    They actually have where you can buy the full Math 4 Textbook Kit which comes with Teachers edition, manipulatives, Worktext, activities, the answer keys, and assessments for $175! You just have to look up the grade and type in Textbook Kit right after. :)

      I have a hard time answering for sure because we did not own the teacher guide for this level so I am unaware if they add in a hands-on element in their instruction of the skills. I do know there’s a script for the parent. Maybe a sample of the guide can let you know if it’s what you are looking for. Sorry I wasn’t much help for that one. Next year we are getting the guide and I look forward to seeing what it includes.

      Yes! We really do like it a lot! Actually I'm going back and forth about next year. I thought it would be a good time to switch her to online to give me more time to work with my other kids and give her more independence...but we've found such a good rhythm with this I don't know if I'll do it yet. Still thinking about it. It's a very traditional textbook, but we have very much enjoyed that.

    So does doing the activity book the next day take you twice as long in the year to do the curriculum? Or do you then later (after she’s done her activity book) also do the next math lesson?

    • @simplylearningtogether651
      @simplylearningtogether651  11 месяцев назад +2

      It still takes the same amount of time. Activity book lesson is in the morning (on her own). Then later that day I sit with her and do the NEXT lesson. Which she will follow-up and complete the activity the following morning. That’s the pattern we’ve been following and it’s been great. We progress the same amount as if we did it all in one day.

  • @karenu.7500
    @karenu.7500 8 месяцев назад

    Thanks for the review. Is the review only on the activities pages?

    • @simplylearningtogether651
      @simplylearningtogether651  8 месяцев назад

      I hope I’m understanding your question correctly. We only use the work text book and the activities book. So that’s what I discuss in the video. We have loved the combination of the two and plan to continue it for this upcoming year.

    • @karenu.7500
      @karenu.7500 8 месяцев назад +1

      I’m sorry I wasn’t clear, I meant the review questions in the lesson, are they on the activities pages only? I seemed to understand the work text is only practice for the lesson and the student activity pages was for review of past concepts. Hope that makes sense.

    • @karenu.7500
      @karenu.7500 8 месяцев назад +1

      Also, if there was a Math with Confidence level for your oldest would you still choose BJU for her or MWC?

    • @simplylearningtogether651
      @simplylearningtogether651  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@karenu.7500 oh ok! Yes! So the review page is only in the activities book. The Worktext contains practice for the lesson only. Some times it has 2-3 review problems from the chapter but that’s it.

    • @simplylearningtogether651
      @simplylearningtogether651  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@karenu.7500 such a good question! I’ve thought about this a lot!! I think my answer would be no. The reason is because she has a just-get-it-done personality. She works quickly and catches on fast. I personally think the hands on approach would annoy her 😬 as much as I love MWC I feel like BJU is the better fit for her specific learning style.
