      It wouldn't have much interference directly from Earth, but it would still have interference from the Sun, and would need (at least one) relay satellite orbiting the Moon to relay information.

But put actual cameras in space to capture as video evidence all the things you claim to be doing? nope, too much to ask.
      a 360° panning of the camera on the manned moon landing? nope, why do that, right?
      unedited pictures of the earth and the moon? nope, that's inappropriate apparently.

    Hi, I wonder, is it possible to do a similar video to show the view from one of the Peaks of (almost) eternal light at thesouth pole (or north pole) with the Earth rising and setting? I think it would rise, describe a small arc, set, and return half a lunar month later and repeat the cycle, but each time rising in a different phase and going half way through the cycle of phases before setting. So it would be fascinating to see this for at least a year and would be nice if it could also do the 18.6 year and 8.65 year cycles so that it doesn't always rise and set in the same direction and sometimes spend more time above and sometimes more time below the horizon. Could be just with a flat horizon, and it would also be cool with a simulated horizon from e.g.a south pole terrain map around one of the favoured peaks of eternal light.
    But just this one with the moon replaced by a horizontal lunar horizon would be great :).
    Oh and it would be nice to have an unobtrusive day counter in one of the corners, could just be decimal days, to know where it is in the cycle.

    • @johnmadden9613
      @johnmadden9613 8 лет назад +1

      It's a valid question. I suppose it would have to do with gravitational pull exceeding vertical/horizontal momentum; sattelites paths intersecting the moon rather than it being hit by "flyby" objects, if that makes any sense. I'm just guessing, though.

    • @NASAGoddard
      @NASAGoddard  8 лет назад +1

      The center of mass of the Moon is offset from the absolute center of the Moon. The farside isn’t necessarily lighter than the nearside, the farside has a thicker crust than the nearside but the nearside, as you pointed out, has more dense volcanic material at the surface. The reason for the concentration of volcanic material on the nearside reflects early formation conditions of the Moon billions of years ago.

    • @syncmaster915n
      @syncmaster915n 8 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply :) One more question, did the offset cause the moon to be tidally locked to the earth? Or what caused the moon or any other space bodies (eg. Mercury) to be tidally locked?

    • @PraveenKumarSuryavanshi
      @PraveenKumarSuryavanshi 8 лет назад

      syncmaster915n When moon formed it was in molted state and and was very close to earth. Earth tidal forces deformed it with permanent bulge due to small variations in the gravity at different points on the moon resulting in tidal locking and pointing this permanent bulge towards earth. Since tidal bulge on earth is dragged east of moon, the tidal force of moon tries to align it. This in fact tries to slow down earths rotation and this loss in angular momentum is thus transferred to moon resulting in receding of the moon @3.5 cm per year.

    I'm surprised the logo at the end of the video has a "beeping" satellite. I think we all know there is no sound in space.

    Liers...They say Moon rotates on its axis but on every presentation it does not move an inch..

      @NASAGoddard  8 лет назад +4

      The "camera" is essentially rotating with the moon as it orbits the Earth. It's the same phenomenon that causes us to only see one side of the Moon from Earth - tidal locking.

      NASA Goddard Too many coincidences to be true..Sun is 400 times more distant then Moon so they look they are same size..Moon is rotating so perfect synchronized that we can not see other side...Sun works exactly with tehnology that we use..Solar system is flat in such a big space..And all that from explosion called Big Bang from nothing?

      the earth doesn't change either. Look at the weather patterns. According to this video the clouds stay the same for ~5 days.

    So your telling me the machine taking photos of the moon is stationary at all times. No effect from gravity?

    An okay CGI demo... Is it for an upcoming Hollywood blockbuster?
    it's cool that NAZA now officially went into doing sci-fi... after all their whole racket isn't going to go anywhere else since the US establishment is about to get served.

      It's to illustrate what the dark side of the moon looks like. That can't be done with pictures.
