The best way to understand the basics of classical western monasticism is the maxim at Benedictine chapel doors “prayer is work” on the outside and “work is prayer” on the inside

Amen! We may not all have a vocation to the monastery, but we can all incorporate those holy principles into our own vocations and stations in life. Thanks for watching, and please check out the podcast: www.consideringcatholicism.com
Same as they do today. Pray , preaching , work whether in farming, building small niche businesses ( wine , cheese , chocolate, baking ). Their goal is to be self sufficient . So they can spend their lifes living for God. ❤ And helping their neighbors.
Monks determined how much of the funds they collected should be given to God in an interesting way too. They held the cash in their hands, said a prayer and tossed all of it skyward to God in the heavens. Whatever God did not keep and allow to fall back to them, they kept for themselves.
You're right. Yeah, I know they're not Benedictines, but it was hard to find enough photos of Benedictine monks doing interesting stuff that would pass RUclips's copyright filters. Honestly, it's just hard to fine almost any available of photos of Benedictines doing interesting stuff in the abbeys. So I used what I could to illustrate the point. This was brilliantly presented. Perfect timing for me to renew my faith and a reminder to invite God into all my activities. Thank you very much. I just subscribed. :)

We should put that on the front door of our houses or apartments.
I recognize the few pics from the Benedictines in Silver City! Beautiful monastery. I’ve enjoyed my numerous visits there

This is fascinating and uplifting, but I'd like to see a video about the life and work of nuns in Medieval times.

1:48 "sext" is where the word "siesta" in Spanish comes from.
In the Orthodox Church we call the prayer cycle "the Hours" or "Horologion" 🕯🕯🕯

Most of the things we have today were created and founded by monks....
Obedience to God is through work.

Franciscans appear (2:32, 2:36, 3:27, 3:34) who are mendicant friars, not monks.

Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing
Reminds me of Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi who famously: chopped wood for 3 hours, prayer for 3 hours and studied the Torah for 3 hours.

We need to reintroduce this model in modern times. If not as rural recluses, as academics and technocrats.
Wealthy, and generous to a fault.
Very nice
stop showing the same fire image
it's annoying and cheap
Why do you propose a monk's report to me is still unreasonable.
