Good on ya for siding with the "Puzzling is for fun" mindset. I don't mind giving up on thrift store buys or freebies. But when I invest 20 bucks or more... I feel like I owe myself a completion.
A lot of my motivation for finishing a thrifted puzzle that i don't particularly like is to see if all the pieces are there 😊 after doing a lot of puzzles i was not thrilled with, i am more discriminating about what i buy. Because now if it comes home, i do it. No matter what!
That's a great strategy. I think many of use picked up whatever we could get during the pandemic but now that there are plenty of puzzles available, we can be selective. It makes for happier puzzling.
Hi Sandra, this was a very nice video. I liked that you talk about the emotions puzzling makes you feel. We sometimes tend to ignore them and keep going and that is why people get burned out with the puzzling hobby if they don’t recognize when to stop a puzzle, put it on hibernation or simply do it for leisure. I think you did the right thing at finishing the competition puzzle, you did your best. You will improve and find the right technique through practice and see whether you do better by sorting by piece shape, color or any other way that suits you best as a puzzler. Keep going. You still have many months to practice. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I really enjoy seeing and hearing about your speed puzzling journey. The fact that you keep challenging yourself is admirable. 🎉🎉 Sitting for 2-3 hours at one time would be challenging for me. I usually puzzle in spurts of time. Plus I've never finished a 500 piece puzzle in one sitting. Happy Puzzling! 😊
Lovely series of videos. I personally would have loved the one you gave up on. These are my favourite kind of puzzles as are ones like the 2000 piece one you did. That is a beautiful one. I don't time myself ever so just sit and enjoy doing puzzles while watching something on my tablet.
I tend to be drawn to landscape puzzles also but they are not easy at times. The one I quit is a Steve Crisp image and he is one of my favourite artists so that's why I selected it. I think it was the brand that did not make it enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, I've enjoyed your videos very much. I'm new to the puzzle world but seem to have been hooked. I also quit one puzzle and put it away. It was the Moon by Master Pieces. Just to grey and I hope to get back to it sometime soon. I'm not into rushing the puzzle I've enough stress daily so I use them for relaxation. As a senior I hope doing them will keep my mind focused and clear.
Great video! The 2000 Ravensburger is so beautiful! The topic of quitting a puzzle is such a good one, we shouldn't have to struggle through trying to complete if we're not having fun anymore. A good lesson to keep in mind for sure. Good luck on the December Challenge this weekend!! I agree that it can be distracting hearing all the "Done!" messages. I have been trying to rewire my brain to get me fired up and use them as motivation to move faster...but sometimes that's challenging!
Also have an unopened puzzle package sitting on my table for the December individual competition from the Canadian Jigsaw Puzzle Association, excited as it is my very first time attending!
My first real 2000pc and very first Ravensburger is that exact puzzle. I fell in love with the image, I am so happy you finished it, as it makes me feel we both will enjoy the end result. I haven't opened it yet, but I hope I can find a way to enjoy the process of putting it together, as it was a meaningful gift to me. ❤
I have never tried to speed puzzle but I certainly enjoy working jigsaw puzzles at my own pace. I love Don Roth's artwork with dressed cats. The first one I acquired was Anatolian's "Kool Kat Kuisine" and I'm sure it took me as long as you did to work it if not longer. I love the image and I laugh every time I view it. I went on to purchase Spilsbury's "Kool Kat Halloween", "Kool Kat School Bus", "Kool Kat Karolers" and "One Mouse Open Sleigh." Thank you for letting us know about Game and Hobby Zone store that has the retirement puzzle sale. I'll check it out. I'm sure that store will be greatly missed.
Thanks for this information on music affecting the speed of puzzling. I’m not a speed puzzler but just like to puzzle for my own enjoyment while listening to a variety of music genres. I also would like to thank you for letting me know about that Toronto puzzle store closing its doors. I placed an order with the 33% off code and am glad I didn’t know about this sooner. As they have a really nice selection of puzzle brands and images. I think not knowing about it saved me a bunch of $$$$$$
I’ve been into puzzling for about 3 weeks and already just today i put one away without finishing it. I actually was enjoying it but I don’t have enough light and it was all brown and blond animals and I was going blind. I ordered a bright lamp and I’ll try it again when my set up is better.
Ah, the highs and lows of puzzling! There is always a jigsaw that ends up being harder than you thought it would, as you found with the Kool Kat Kuisine. All you can do in a competition is just your best and be happy with that. I'm sure we have all been through the gamut of emotions when doing puzzles, from tearing hair out to the deep satisfaction of completing a puzzle. I'm slowly working my way through the Ravensburger 1000 Animal Crossings Challenge puzzle. Normally I wouldn't do Challenge puzzles but I realised that every face is different although the differences can be subtle. I'm on the fifth day of doing it and I've probably done about half the puzzle. It should get easier as more pieces go in. I do it in fairly short bursts of time as it gets tiring on the eyes! 👀 Look forward to your next video.
I've never done one of those challenge puzzles before and the one you're working on definitely looks hard. But when you get it done the feeling is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
I'm currently struggling with a puzzle and thinking about quitting. I'm all for - if you're not having fun put it away. My issue is that I am terrible at random cut pieces. There is just something about them that hurts my brain. Part of me thinks that if I did more of them I would get better at them. If I got better at them, I wouldn't find them so frustrating. This would open up more brands to me. Lol I'm not sure I'm getting better. I have just over 100 pieces left in the one I'm working on, but its all tree leaves. Do I keep struggling with it and hope I learn from the experience? Do I just give up and admit I can't do hard random cut? I don't know. Love watching puzzle channels to hear about others experiences, learn different techniques and thought processes. Thanks for a great video, and sharing your thoughts. ❤❤❤
Thank you. My experience with random cut is exactly the same as yours. I too am currently working on a puzzle right now which is random cut and it is slow going. My brain just doesn't identify the pieces with this type of cut. I too try to do more of them to help me get better but it doesn't seem to be working.
nice video... I appreciate your honesty that yes you also gave up on a puzzle... I gave up on a mostly black cat one... is always fun to see what puzzles others choose.. to me you picked very hard ones good luck to you in all your competitions.....I do not speed puzzle but I enjoy watching .... enjoy the holiday season..

Yes I feel that way too.

I'm looking forward to the competition this weekend! I have my unopened box ready to go!
Best of luck.

Thank you. I appreicate you stopping by my channel. That Masterpieces Moon puzzle definitely looks challenging. I would have quit that puzzle also.

Thank you. I think I might need to try noise cancelling headphones for the next competition.

Thank you. I too am happy I stuck with it. I really do like the image and Ravensburger has excellent quality. Hope you enjoy your puzzle.
I knew you would not give up on the Heye puzzle...that image is just too interesting.
Yes, I do love that image.

Now I'm curious and will need to look for other puzzles with his artwork.

You're welcome. They do have a lot of wonderful puzzles and I'm glad you found some to add to your collection. Enjoy.

Yes, lighting is always an issue for me also especially with those dark puzzles. Hope your new lamp will make it easier.

I was in that same competition with you for the Anatolian puzzle and it was hard! Illustrated busy puzzles aren’t my fav 😬
It's good to know I wasn't the only one who thought it was hard. I thought it was just me since everyone seemed to be flying it through it quickly.
12:10 wow that looks sooo cool. :o
Yes it is. I love the burst of colour in that image.
