I hate some of the advertising they use for these. "You're not a child, you're a man, so quit wearing all those layers." Well, I am an adult, and have been for more years than I was a child. But I know that wearing layers when you are going to be outside in cold weather, especially doing strenuous activity and away from shelter (working, hiking, etc) is a good thing, not a bad thing. Being able to add and remove layers to stay warm but not too warm to where you are soaking in sweat is extremely important.

It is only about 9/10. Sweetwater and Edens Garden are both good companies. When I see something pushed so hard, there is nearly always a better alternative.
My dad got me one, i didn’t like it, and gave it away, the whole companies concept is no layering only one garment, but in real world cold conditions for days on end or even hours you need layers, for years now I wear my m65 jacket “wind proof” or BDU is also wind proof and a 100% wool surplus coat underneath for insulation, you could also use a sweatshirt/hoodie, and I’ve used that setup in sub zero temperatures, and you can always take one off to cool down, or maybe one layer gets wet, you could even give to someone else just in case, with only one garment you can’t do any of that
Everyone knows that fleece is not windproof. Never was, never will be. You'd need a windproof layer for that. This jacket,as is, works well down to about 35 degrees. Add the rain/wind jacket on top of that for your windproofing. I just got one of these a couple weeks ago and love all the pockets and well thought out design.

I was given one of these for Christmas 2023 and I love it. Keeps me warmer than I thought it would, very comfortable and I like how it fits me, plus it has a lot of pockets
I have two of them because they sent me the wrong size the first time, they did easily correct the issue. The shipping is slow because they're coming from China, each time took 10-14 days. They are warm, comfortable, and fairly water resistant. The wind resistance is ok, but on windy days the wind will cut through them. The issue I've found with both hoodies is the hook and loop is total trash, especially around the wrist, after a few adjustments the strap will not stay in place. I have even cut off the plastic straps off because they won't stay connected to the velcro and get in the way when reaching into a pocket. I have some patches on my hoodies and they hold well, but a lot of thread comes loose after washing, even when washing with the patches in place. If they would use better quality hook and loop I would say they're worth the money. The hood is a little large and will hang down over your eyes a bit, but perfect for pulling over a hard hat.
I've had one for almost a year... One of the best pieces of kit that I have had in years. The only complaint from my wife was the lack of colour selection. It does appear that there are more colour options now.
I ordered one for my husband on November 15th and it arrived in Florida on November 26th. Not Amazon fast, but reasonable delivery time. He really likes it. Plenty warm, but not bulky.
Thanks so much for this review. I was on the fence for a while and didn’t want to order blindly in that price point. Your review has absolutely sold me and I’ll be getting my husband one for his birthday in February. I’ll probably have to order today, 😂😉 thanks again!
I bought one last year- same color. Only issue is it gets you wet in the rain. This year I bought the rain resistant variety. As S00tch says, just pay attention when zipping up. Good product.
I have ordered twice. First was two for my wife and i received package within two weeks. Was impressed enough to order another hoodie with rain jacked....... took almost two months.
Stormproof fleece! Nice jacket Sootch. Lighter-but-warmer appeals to me more and more as I age. I could see all those pockets turning this into a true bug-out hoodie!
I've had one for over a year. I gave one to my GF and ordered another one. Outstanding for Tennessee fall and mild winters. I recommend it. I just ordered the raincoat.
I agree with the customer service part. I had issues getting a response on my order. Mine has been shipped and I did order the 3-in-1. I'll come back and let ya know how that is. I ordered it in black. As soon as I get it, like I said, I'll post a comment.
Fell into our fish pond wearing my BearSkin, total immersion on a cool day in Georgia. Got the jacket off to hang it outside to drain most of the water. After awhile, put the jacket into the washing machine to get fish p00p off, spin dry, hung up to air dry. Works fine. Great jacket.
Thanks for reviewing this hoodie! I know we’ve all been inundated with their commercials for their product line on RUclips! You’re the first I’ve seen do a review on it! We appreciate you Sootch!!!👍🏼
I got a generic hoodie very similar to this a couple years ago from Amazon for $30. I wear it daily, has held up well. I wouldn't be surprised if the same factory makes them for Bearskin. The Bearskin has more pockets, though. I'd buy it again..not so sure about the Bearskin though. I think it's just being marked up with a couple additional things added. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a 100% identical, same manufacture generic version.
I did too. I tried to find the label of who made mine, but I didn't find anything on it. My "no name", doesn't have as many pockets but I like it a lot.
That is precisely what is being done. You or I could reach out to the main manufacture of these, if we had the money and say we want 500 hoodies with this emblem or design done and make them our own brand of hoodies. It's extremely common more than people know
Great review. I got my wife one for her birthday, a couple months ago. She likes to wear “hoodie” jackets. I got the one for the 2 piece hoodie/ raincoat (4.0, I think) She loves it, and it blocks wind good with the raincoat part on. November and December have been cold here in Virginia, so she has left them together or worn a thicker coat. 20 degrees generally calls for a bigger coat, if you are going to be in it long. I’m not really a “hoodie” guy, but they seem to be well made.
Love this hoodie, bought one 6 months ago. The hoodie 3.0 version. Wear it all the time for work. Super warm, functional, and stylish. Bought another one when they had a better sale. Couldn't be happier.
Absolutely love the review Don I was wondering about this jacket I'll go check it out. I've been subscribed for years and love you videos but my favorite part is the bloopers at the end😂😂 keep up the good work brother
I got mine last year, and I LOVE it. The pockets ar amazing to have. Ladies, you can easily fit most essential items in the jacket and leave your bag at home. I was somewhat skeptical about paying the cost, but after seeing a friend's hoodie, I was sold.
I could really have used this hoodie a few years ago when I was still shooting outdoor matches and would nearly freeze to death in the wintertime. I may get one anyway just because I like the way they look. Your recommendation means a lot to me. Thank you, Sootch00.
Condor makes similar jackets that are similar. Had several over the years. Also like Triple Aught Design (TAD)…the Ranger w/ or w/o hood. US made. Definately use wind resistant fleece…Polartec Wind Pro.
I have a Bearskin Hoodie and another similar one from Amazon, that looks almost exactly the same, for half the price. There are a couple of minor differences that make the Bearskin a wee bit better. The Bearskin is overhyped, but even at $99 is still a reasonable value, and I really like it. You'll do well with either one, but some people want the brand, others care about the price!
All I can think about is how much static electricity that would generate. My body is a freaking battery, it will store electricity up until I touch a door knob, car door, wife's bits😂 and then WHAMMO, it's like touching a spark plug wire that's not completely seated on the plug.
Check the tracking. Last year my jacket arrived in two days. This year it took more than a month and the tracking was more than a page of international check points.
Any of the Military Surplus warehouses have German Army cammo winter jackets, These are made for being out in the extreme weather in central Europe. With a starting point of 35.00 dollars depending on the condition. Still better.
If you want a good wind resistant coat just get an M-65, and for colder weather, just get the liner for it. But you are right. Military surplus equipment is the way to go. Not this hyped up crap.
I can speak to the quality of the tactical hoodie. It's warmer than the average jacket made with similar materials. It's very warm and comfortable. It might be a little over priced, but not much and you are getting a good quality jacket that is very warm and comfortable.
I was bombarded with their ads for the longest time. Once about 2 am in the morning i caved in and ordered one. It took weeks to get as it came on a slow boat from china. ( with tracking) It is now one of my favorites. I do not have the model shown. But its close. It is definately wind proof as i tested it against other fleece hoodies i own. I like it. I would buy again.
My only complaint is atay away from sparks if you have a light color.. any sparks.. it will leave little black dots all over it where it burns the fluff.. other than that.. perfect.. they did take off some pockets from 3.0 in the 4.0 version... i liked all my pockets... Raincoat work great too
The problem with the velcro wrist strap is that you can not dry your fleece in a dryer. It will melt the plastic, therefore not letting the velcro stick again. I have a similar jacket with the same velcro design, and the plastic won't stick to velcro. Other than that it looks good I wouldn't mind having one. Just don't put it in the dryer to dry.
I live in the Midwest and I bought the rain jacket that attaches to the outside of this jacket ur wearing basically for shoveling snow. It fits very nicely when it’s combined.
I bought one of these like 3 years ago. It was expensive and not actual wool, and it doesn't keep you dry in the rain .ine is falling apart. The front pockets have wholes in them now and find loose threads all the time . But they are warm and windproof, but that's about it.
I agree with your assessment of the product. This was a good and fair review. I'm also glad you pointed out the shipping time. It took six weeks for me to get mine. I've only had mine for a couple weeks now, and so far, no problems. The only other thing to note is you will be bombed with spam to by more stuff from them.
I bought one last Christmas, same color, I live in Pa. It gets cold here. Absolutely the best hoodie I own hands down. It keeps you warm and comfortable, it's my go to cold weather apparel.
Customer service is really bad!! I have been trying to get in touch with them to return one for a different size, It's been about 3 weeks and they haven't answered me as of today!!
I've seen those silicone cuff fasteners delaminate on other jackets. They seem to be glued together lengthways. Yes, they can be repaired with fabric glue, but they don't seem to last.
I wear the men’s version ( small ) instead of the women’s. Looks great on me. I’m not crazy about hoods, but the hood on this is very comfortable, I actually use it. The pockets are great! I love the arm pockets, I find I use them the most. Wear this when it’s colder with a thin vest underneath. I own 3 now😹😹😹
I bought an full length Ausie duster with button in wool liner in 2020. It's water and windproof and keeps my legs warm also. It'll probably last me the rest of my life!
Nice review I have both a 3.0 and a 4.0 with the Rain Shell living in northern Ohio I have found that I can wear this more than 90% of the time I don't think I even took out my heavy winter coat last year just wore this with a thermal shirt and was plenty warm.
I purchased one a couple years ago, version 2.0. It has held up very well. It has all the same pockets yours does plus a large pass through pocket on the back with zippers on either side, sort of like an upland game bird hunting vest. My sleeve closures are made of the same fleece so they are soft. Not sure why the switched to plastic. That seems to me uncomfortable if you sleep in it like I do mine. In fact, the only complaint I have about the 2.0 is that it uses a female zipper. Not sure why they did that. I have lost a bunch of weight since I got it and now it is very bagger on me. I asked them if they did alterations and they said no.
I have the same one, given to me as a gift. My only caution is if you're carrying on your belt, you have to be mindful of the waist bungies when drawing and reholstering. Never used to think about it until I watched some YT's about AD's when the bungie-tightener gets inside the trigger mechanism. Pretty unlikely, but apparently it has happened. Other than that, the hoodie is solid and warm as heck!
The best I ever had was from Duluth Trading and it had two layers with a membrane between that blocked wind and wetness. It had the hood and a bunch of pockets too. But these things are really expensive for what they are.
The GSM referenced at 4:50 is grams per square meter. It is a measure of how heavyweight (and warm) the fleece is. The higher the number the more warmth retention. A lightweight hoodie is about 200 GSM, a year round hoodie is about 250 GSM. This hoodie is 340 GSM, so pretty heavy and warm. It might be too much of a good thing for temps above 50 degrees.
First, thank you for the video.second I'm going through the thing you brought up,ordered in December,in anticipation of a snowstorm.because Ohio right.if you don't plan for the snowstorm and the following heatwave an hour later, your just not trying 😁it's first week of January in the bag and all I can find on my order is 'a carrier received the package',no region, country, state,or what carrier.for a hundree they could be more forthcoming with where the actual (fill in the blank with what ever you want here)my hoodie is.very good review,it reminds me why I should be patent and not go ask where my hoodie is,with really large guns.still tempted,it's neg.20 today, the thing I ordered a month ago and actually need to use today is AWOL.good review thanks.👍
I have one. The only 3 things I don't like are the hoodie lid, it's floppy on mine and looks like an after thought. It needs under arm zippers/vents. And the zipper on my coat is not the best. Possibly I got a lower quality, or not quality controlled jacket? 🤷
I got one a for Christmas I’ve been wearing it daily since with a light hoodie under it it’s awesome here in north west PA . Ive worn it down to the mid teens it’s great love it
I bought one for myself - love it. Bought one for my son - he is impossible to please, and he loves his. Bought the full set for his wife this Christmas.
Thanks for doing this review. I have been watching these videos for months and wondering what features it has that makes it better than the numerous fleece pullovers and full-zips that I already have. The "coolness" factor is high. But I saw nothing that made me want to order one. In fact, some points that you mentioned pushed me in the other direction. Customer service is a huge factor when making purchases. I'm not a fan of Made in China when other options are available. And the price is much higher than I am willing to pay for an item like this. I was a First Responder as a member of the National Ski Patrol for 20 years. I am well situated with cold weather clothing, hence the numerous fleece items that I already have. I have a military, Goretex shell if I need rain gear. The fact that this is being pushed as an item that can replace multiple layered items defeats the purpose of layering which is that you can add or remove a layer, or layers as the temperature changes. If all you are wearing is this jacket over a t-shirt, you might as well be wearing a coat over the t-shirt. In both cases you have no layering options. You either keep the single outer layer on and sweat, or remove the outer layer and get chilled. If I were gifted one, I'm sure I would use the product. But I have no desire to make a purchase at this time.
Made in China fleece jacket for $99... and that is a sale price according to the website. Full MSRP is $249.88?! Look, you can get a basic fleece jacket for about $20 from Amazon or Walmart. Does anyone seriously believe that the extra pockets on this should cost another $80? I'd give ya $40 for it.... if I didn't already have a jacket. Thanks for talking about it. I have to admit, I was curious.
I agree with you completely. This thing is not worth the money they are asking for it. Plus, it's not wind resistant at all. The wind just blows right through it.
Quick comment on using a backpack.....I bought a 300GM fleece jacket from Campmor 30 years ago for $35. Its Grizzly Fleece had reinforced nylon shoulder patches for abrasion resistance when using backpacks. That would have been a good addition to this one, especially for what it costs.
The bearskin i got a few years ago is a little bit different,it has a extra piece in the back on the bottom that supposed to hold it down but it's more annoying than anything and some kind of bil on the hood that's just big enough to be annoying and I can feel air in the arms feels like it goes right through it so I have to wear something under it,definitely would get the style you got over mine
It means to say you're not a child. You're a full grown man child. You have your wife change the tire as you stand there wearing her coat.

It's extremely common more than people know
Yah I have one like it that’s Duluth trading company. It’s been great but it doesn’t have the hood. But it was half the cost when I bought it.
Same here. Only difference is the hood doesn’t have a draw string, which is kind of odd. But it is very warm.
Merino Wool. Get a t-shirt, get a vest sweater, get a long sleeve sweater, over those, even a light flight jacket will work down to 20F.
Ordered mine on December 5th and still waiting. :-) thanks Sootch!
Glad you covered this. I was seeing it everywhere!!
I got mine last year, and I LOVE it. The pockets ar amazing to have. Ladies, you can easily fit most essential items in the jacket and leave your bag at home. I was somewhat skeptical about paying the cost, but after seeing a friend's hoodie, I was sold.
Thank you for your video. Action shots showed how the fabric lats and reacts to movement. Worth my sub sir.
Brother, thank you for your review! I've been eyeing these for almost a year but, it was a YT add, so I was skeptical. 😄. You da man!!!
I could really have used this hoodie a few years ago when I was still shooting outdoor matches and would nearly freeze to death in the wintertime. I may get one anyway just because I like the way they look. Your recommendation means a lot to me. Thank you, Sootch00.
Wonder if it is wind resistant?
NO! I bought one, and it's about wind resistant as a screen door in a hurricane.
Condor makes similar jackets that are similar. Had several over the years. Also like Triple Aught Design (TAD)…the Ranger w/ or w/o hood. US made. Definately use wind resistant fleece…Polartec Wind Pro.
My wife and I bought 2 of these when we went to Alaska in October. They were great with a long sleeve T-shirt. Vary warm.
I was waiting for this review. Great video as usual. Covered everything. Thanks. Been a subscriber since the beginning.
All I can think about is how much static electricity that would generate. My body is a freaking battery, it will store electricity up until I touch a door knob, car door, wife's bits😂 and then WHAMMO, it's like touching a spark plug wire that's not completely seated on the plug.
I appreciate you saying it’s worth the wait. I ordered the 3-in-1 on 11/28 and I’m still waiting for it to ship.
Merry Christmas to you! I have been wanting to see a review of this hooded jacket.
One things for sure they’re annoying commercials with dudes who talk with a lisp trying to sell It aren’t gonna to convince me buy one anytime soon😂
Nice review Don ! Always wondered what they were like . Looks like a better refined version of the millatary fleece jackets .
I appreciate this review. I have been interested in this for a while
I was bombarded with their ads for the longest time.
Got mine on sale when they first came out. Maybe they're out of price range now. It works, but on the coldest days I layer up anyway.
Love the arm pockets. Always kept pen, pencil (ink freezes up), chapstick in mine. Jackets without arm ockets always lose 5 points.
Great review of a fabulous product; I also bought this jacket n also the rain jacket. Both are awesome.
I have been seeing youtube recommend and mention this hoodie at a constant rate...solid review...👊
E!!!!
@GBall_Vision GREGGGGGGGG...👊...stop copying my algorithm, kid
I purchased both the hoodie and attachable rain jacket and I am very pleased with the tactical look, feel and comfort!
Thanks Sootch, I've been wondering about these hoodies that keep popping up on my feed.
I have one. The only 3 things I don't like are the hoodie lid, it's floppy on mine and looks like an after thought. It needs under arm zippers/vents. And the zipper on my coat is not the best. Possibly I got a lower quality, or not quality controlled jacket? 🤷
They are great, I have two pairs with the rain gear. A must-have .
I have been seeing the ads for this jacket. I haven't seen anything saying what the sleeves are lined with? Any one?
The sleeves are not lined with anything. Same material as the hoodie.
Happy holidays SOOTCH!
In general, their shipping has gotten better- my first one 3 or so years was slow, the next 2 were more timely
Love my 3.0 and 4.0.. its not artic warm.. but in 20° plus, it is pretty dang warm
The $20 Amazon fleeces are about as thick as a handkerchief, while these are nice thick & warm...you get what you pay for
I agree with you completely.
Thanks for review. Been wondering about these as well.
Thank you for sharing your view with this jacket. I've been thinking about getting this for my son.
I was also skeptical after seeing FB ads but love mine! I can only imagine the newer models are even better!
Just bought my second and one for my wife. I have the rain jacket and it works also.
