Footfalls is such a banger. I'm interested to see Preacher's thoughts on Zenos as he gets to the end of EW, i really did not like him by the end of ShB, not in a villain way either, just get him off my screen kinda way but i think he was actually excellent in EW, used sparingly but every scene he stole the show. A lot of that credited to Luke Allen-Gale his VA who's absolutely incredible, in a very good cast of voice actors, he stands out as particularly great.
EW Felt like the most character building that Zenos got throughout the game, a path of acceptance if you would. Trying not to spoil anything, But Zenos beccomming more 'human' in terms of thoughts and emotions instead of the rabid animal he was before, shows his character growth was huge
@@sadmiqoxiv I liked Zeno in SB as he was just bad. Classic bad. No sympathetic villain. You're not meant to like him. He's also meant to be like the Boogeyman as well which I feel he did really well. Every time you encounter him you're basically like "Oh shit". I agree they rounded out his character and gave him a method to his madness.
personally I think Fandaniel was what Zenos was supposed to be in SB, a plot device villain that only exists to move the plot and don't have much more depth than that, and they don't have to, they sometimes work better when they don't, they are like a force of nature. the problem is that characters like that can easily overstay their welcome. and now in EW we have Zenos that a HUGE plot device villain that already overstayed his welcome, and then they add another one on top of that. the thing is, Fandaniel showed up, moved the plot, and then when he wasn't needed anymore he noped out for good, and that is what was supposed to happen with Zenos. what was kinda impressive is that in the end they did managed to fix Zenos, they somehow gave him depth without the need for long flashbacks or huge dialogs, and then gave him an amazing ending that actually made him memorable. they even played on the cockblocking we kept having whenever we tried to have a decent duel with Zenos to make the ending even more satisfying.
@@danilooliveira6580 Idk about you but Zenos hasnt actually changed much, they just gave more depth to his character. He literally was torturing the people of the far east to make them hate him and someone to rise up and offer him a challenge. Once he found us he finally found what he wanted, he kept tormenting us to become stronger to face him as we are initially too weak but after tasting of the forbidden fruit he wasn't satisfied with one fight to the death. Especially as it was using a primal so he came back and wanted to do it again with his own two hands. Fandaniel saw him as a means to push his agenda forward but Zenos didnt care because it would lead you to him. People dont like him in SB because he was so 1 Dimensional but his one Dimensionalness was what made him unique.
By the time you reached the start of Endwalker there's already some scenes on the moon. There was some wild speculation about it since around Heavenward around 3.3..
My friend is playing through the patch quests of HW at the moment and mentioned to me the Minfillia says the moon encases darkness. I had completely forgotten she said that and Endwalker was foreshadowed so long ago.
The trailer really hits different after playing EW. The first time I saw it I didn't really like it, but now everything falls into place and it gets me hype even though it's already over.
I'd honestly say it's the best story I've experienced in gaming. Great games like Witcher 3 or RDR2 have a few moments where they hit you with feels and make you cry but FF14's had several. 10 years of storytelling ending in almost perfection.
Agreed. Taken as a complete story, from day 1 until now, it's a triumph. It's the kind of writing, for the most part, I'd expect from a good fantasy novel. I liked Shadowbringers a little bit more, but there are parts of Endwalker that are truly epic. And it was a fitting end to the story arc we've been on for like 10 years? Something like that.
The difference in ShB trailer compared to this is that ShB was taking us to a completely new world, and our friends had already been there awhile, so there was a lot of "omg what's that? where is this? what's going on?!" By comparison, EW is showing us areas we've known about since 2.0 but are FINALLY getting to go to (Radz-at-Han, Old Sharlayan, heck even the moon was first shown in a cutscene at the end of 2.0, and in several scenes since). The only mystery we've got is why the Final Days are still happening, when we thought by averting the 8th Calamity that we'd put a stop to such things. Also, this trailer introduced the two new jobs (Alphinaud with Sage, and Zenos with Reaper). When they first released this trailer, the part with Estinien and the part with Zenos showing off his scythe weren't in it, and it released along with the announcement of Sage. Then, when they released this full trailer, they announced Reaper. So seeing the new jobs was another "teaser," on top of the hype for the areas we'd be going.
Ppl might forget that we were in a middle of the war and ShB just pull you out of the rabbit hole into a completely different story. 5.3 actually did spoiler alert for EW when they told you about paperwork. The thing that most of us either prepared for what happen or just skip through it and pick what you like to see. It would nice to see if they don’t give you the dialogue options but you need to type of chat for it. That would make the conversations more natural since you need to understand what that mean. The previous seasonal event at Gold Saucer actually has multiple choices and I kinda like how you can pick to guess the options. That would be a way to do it but not happening with gameplay mechanics put in
I did not, there's no emotional involvement in Endwalker whatsoever and it vexes me that people are so sycophantic towards such an empty finale of an otherwise amazing game.
@@craigyoung2261 Because it had emotional involvement for them. It might not have had it for you and that's totally fine, but it did for a huge number of other people and I also don't think it's wrong for them to say so.
I love how every trailer reaction is the same when Estinien shows up. They all talk right over Estinien saying the name. Even reveal reactions were like that.
"The launch trailer is spoilers," they say, as if they didn't watch it themselves the exact SECOND it dropped, live and in Japanese, about 2 weeks before Endwalker released
The fact some insane people told preach not to watch the Launch trailer is just dumb.. it's launch trailer they WANTED US to see it before playing the game it's not SPOILER you freaks..
The EW trailer is pure unadulterated fanservice. Using the trailer music from previous expansions and remixing it, the MASSIVE FF4 reference in WoL going from Dark Knight to Paladin. The sage and reaper reveals. WoL being on the FREAKING MOON, the Sharlyan reveal not to mention it is the first time the twins make and appearance in the trailer.
Replay the Amaurot dungeon, you'll see some of the enemies from there in the trailer (to give you any context for those enemies that's already been shown in game).
"Why are we on the moon" Because it's a Final Fantasy game, obviously 😂 We always end up on the moon somehow~ (Also, it was teased since Heavensward that Zodiark is in the moon, so if we are bringing the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga to a close with Endwalker, it's to be expected that we engage with Zodiark too)
its a bit of a stretch to say that going to the moon is standard or formulaic in the FF series. The only game I remember where you actually went to the moon was FF4. There was the lunar tear (or lunar cry?) in FF8 which was a astronomical phenomenon by which monsters flooded from the moon and down on earth, but neither the spaceship nor the cryo-prison of the witch that ruled the government before Laguna were ever on the moon. perhaps you could say FF9 did it with Terra? But Terra didnt look like anything we could culturally associate with the moon and it was just as big as Gaia, so it was less of a satellite and more of a binary planet system (which is something that actually exists in real life, where two planets are orbitally locked with each other around a shared center of mass) and so I dont think Terra can be called a moon both in the cultural artistic sense nor in the actual scientific definition
A lot of beats from EW were taken straight from IV-just look at the tome sets or the paladin and dragoon relics, they are very clearly taken from IV characters. Bellular has a video on his channel with a lot of details that draw the parallels a lot more solidly than could be put into a comment.
@@gateauxq4604 actually, ALL OF THE MOONWARD GEAR is ref from FF4 main cast. even the song in the moon base is directly from FF4, and yes FF4 is the only game which we get to actual land on the moon itself to finish the final boss

One bit I live in this trailer no one ever really mentions is that at 40 seconds in with the light behind the character, they look kind of like an ancient/ascian, the same way we looked kind of to emet breifly. probably not intentional, but if so it’s a nice reference to that whole arc of who we were
I want to say I liked ShB more standalone but this was amazing BECAUSE of everything else. If it wasn't how it is I dont think it would be but then again if it wasnt how it was it would be completely different so ye lol
You could always level an alt. I felt the same way. Decided to level an alt when OCE data center opened. Replaying EW was as good as my first playthrough.
Going back to this vid and I'm remembering when I first watched the teaser version during the live stream, Screaming "MY BABY GIRL" when I saw Ally. I made me realize how much I grew to love the Twins. Like two little siblings I never had.
Funfact: Back in 2017 in Frankfurt Fanfest, someone screamed "When are we going to the MOOOOON?" and Yoshi P only laughed and said something along the lines of "Maybe in 7.0" And if I remember right, the same question was asked at Paris Fanfest.... so probably they HAD to go to the moon eventually xD
There is something unrelentingly cool to me about Estinien, a dragoon, utilizing specialized anti-dragon combat techniques designed to pierce their scales and bring them down from the sky... on other things. The fact it wasn't whatsoever designed for any other purpose, yet is dramatic overkill in 9/10 situations in lore power? Absolutely bonkers. I just love that they don't gloss over that with all the reactions. Yeah the reactions are few and far between, but there are times in Stormblood where Estinien was leaping around as a side thing and the Garleans were *not handling what they were seeing well.*
I learnt from KupoCon recently (great conversation met the voice actors for alisae, alphnaud, Urianger and thancred) that they recorded the lines for the trailer first then the expansion leaving all the grunts and moans etc til last
Estinien is in the Stormblood Dragoon quests and we see more of how he's doing post-Heavensward, but not including him more in the main story was a tad disappointing, I agree.
For certain, you won't expect everything that comes. While I personally did predict what the plot would be, I did not expect the crazy shit that would follow. I really wish I could replay endwalker just for that final walk 🚶♂️
gotta say, i enjoy the Endwalker cinematic a lot more after doing the story than i did before (Or at least up to the last 2 zones since they're not covered in the trailer).
Also why are why on the moon? Because it's where the Ascians based a lot of their plots from. Several times you see them just being evil while on the moon. Before Endwalker, hell before Shadowbringers, a very big running theory was that Zodiark was on the mood and we'd go there and fight him as final boss. There were a lot of the "Moons haunted" memes made with FFXIV replacements over the years. Also we go to the moon because FFIV. So there's a lot of reasons.
Is a pity Mike will not watch the launch trailer, after watching it, we were intentionally left with feelings he will now not have through the expansion, not sure why people screamed for him not to watch it when there are only teasers and they intentionally give these to us before the expansion.
People say the launch trailer is spoilers, but honestly I think it did a great job of selling red herrings for the direction of the plot. I felt about 80% sure that the plot resolution would be something else completely after watching it. These aren't idiots that cut these trailers, they know what they're doing.
I think it's better that he didn't watch it. I doesn't contain spoilers per se but I would color your thoughts ahead of time on events yet to happen. Honestly I wished I hadn't watched it before I beat the msq either.
@@TheBlackSage7 I would have to disagree. Watching that launch trailer made the reveals on the msq more mind blowing. To be fair I think the trailer was designed to lead the players on "this" certain thought.
Most of the Endwalker trailer literally shows only about 10-15% of the expansion In fact it shows mostly the first 4 hours and a bit in the middle The rest you'll have to play to see
There's no point in overly speculating about Endwalker before you play it. The only advice I give to anyone is that to get the best experience out of it make sure that you've cleared all the base difficulty trials and raids in the game and at least started the Bozja storyline to the point that you've unlocked the area that has it's own rules similar to Eureka. Doing the Eureka storyline wouldn't hurt, either, but I would put it at a lower priority.
The last time I watched a trailer this much in anticipation of a release was The Phantom Menace, and, well, we know how *that* worked out. So I am SO glad Endwalker did NOT disappoint!

@@Scottistic I mean, I never claimed he did change. what I'm arguing about is all about how he is used in the story, not the character itself.
This trailer was 100% responsible for my decision to level through the story as a paladin first :D
Yup, I played the whole msq as pld and now I reached the part where u get this armor! Epic
I love how EVERY streamer talks about the dragon's name with the question: "Is that Tiamat?"
“Devour his cum, tiamat” just doesn’t have the same ring to it
Yoshi P's credit in all these trailers is so absolutely epic. They really give him the star treatment. He deserves it
By the time you reached the start of Endwalker there's already some scenes on the moon. There was some wild speculation about it since around Heavenward around 3.3..
My friend is playing through the patch quests of HW at the moment and mentioned to me the Minfillia says the moon encases darkness. I had completely forgotten she said that and Endwalker was foreshadowed so long ago.
@@arandomcheese endwalker was hinted at as far back as crystal tower, albeit vaguely.
The trailer really hits different after playing EW. The first time I saw it I didn't really like it, but now everything falls into place and it gets me hype even though it's already over.
I liked it from the Get-go because I understood it’s just there to get me hyped by showing me just the fan service bits.
It amazing how FFXIV got Preach's hair to grow back.
wink
The Endwalker MSQ is insane, definitely one of the best RPG stories I've ever played, right up there with the Witcher 3
?????????????????
That would be a way to do it but not happening with gameplay mechanics put in
I'm impressed he didn't think on who could be narrating the trailer.
He will pick up on it as soon as the expansion actually starts.
Kind of crazy how long it took for Alphinaud to show up in a trailer, eh? He's basically the second main character!
10:54 Moments like this are why I LOVE watching preach. He picks up on stuff I totally missed out on
Indeed. Knowing what happens makes it hit real different now
Listening to the lyrics is incredibly valid, they didn't release the transcription for them til just before EW came out.
Since warcraft 3 btw.
God, Everytime, every god damn time.
After seeing what Endwalker brought us, after seeing the end. That trailer hits so so god damn hard
I'm kinda glad this isn't just me. I'm watching this, getting all sniffly, wondering what the heck is wrong with me.
Us: WE’RE ON THE MOON
Preach: why r we on the moon?
Endwalker was such a rollercoaster of emotions! Hope u enjoy it as much as i did
it's also a rollercoaster of everything :D
I did not, there's no emotional involvement in Endwalker whatsoever and it vexes me that people are so sycophantic towards such an empty finale of an otherwise amazing game.
@@craigyoung2261 Because it had emotional involvement for them. It might not have had it for you and that's totally fine, but it did for a huge number of other people and I also don't think it's wrong for them to say so.
I love how every trailer reaction is the same when Estinien shows up.
They all talk right over Estinien saying the name. Even reveal reactions were like that.
ELEPHANT & BABY
moment that hurt me
"The launch trailer is spoilers," they say, as if they didn't watch it themselves the exact SECOND it dropped, live and in Japanese, about 2 weeks before Endwalker released
Actually most of us didn't lol
That's the exact reason I didn't, also some did watch it and regretted it later, I mean it litteraly showed the final story dungeon
They specifically mentioned at fanfest how they took extra care with the lyrics of the song to make them poignant and accurate
"that's tiamat" gets 'em everytime
The fact some insane people told preach not to watch the Launch trailer is just dumb.. it's launch trailer they WANTED US to see it before playing the game it's not SPOILER you freaks..
This is one of my favorite cinematics of all time! :D have fun endwalking Mike
"Why are we on the moon?" Most of us wondered that for over 6 months...
"Why are we on the moon"
Because it's a Final Fantasy game, obviously 😂 We always end up on the moon somehow~
(Also, it was teased since Heavensward that Zodiark is in the moon, so if we are bringing the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga to a close with Endwalker, it's to be expected that we engage with Zodiark too)
its a bit of a stretch to say that going to the moon is standard or formulaic in the FF series.
That trailer made me a rich man, was betting in my guild what class/weapons gotta be released and i NAILED IT
sweet 2million gill!
wonder what these "launch trailer is spoilers " people will say when, if he will be invited for next expansion "media tour". -"hey Mike don't go to media tour there will be spoilers".
"Wasn't much in the way of teasers in that one" literally shows the end of the world, multiple new locations and WoL on the moon.
One bit I live in this trailer no one ever really mentions is that at 40 seconds in with the light behind the character, they look kind of like an ancient/ascian, the same way we looked kind of to emet breifly. probably not intentional, but if so it’s a nice reference to that whole arc of who we were
Did preach not pay attention to the msq? He seems to ask questions that are pretty much answered in ShB.
Am I the only one who felt like this trailer goes from B to S tier after repeated viewings?
I've watched it so many times, and I literally can't help but smile like an idiot when I do.
Definitely, but the ShB trailer is SSS tier to me.
This is the best expansion by far. I wish I hadn't completed it so fast. I almost want to do a new game+.
which will hit in 6.1 iirc?
I want to say I liked ShB more standalone but this was amazing BECAUSE of everything else. If it wasn't how it is I dont think it would be but then again if it wasnt how it was it would be completely different so ye lol
You could always level an alt. I felt the same way. Decided to level an alt when OCE data center opened. Replaying EW was as good as my first playthrough.
Minus the ending part, sadly. That was bad story telling and it bugs me that it was executed so poorly. Rest was a 10/10
@@Silphiroth i would ask what part do you mean but like obviously cant cuz yknow. When he posts his thoughts video when its over then mention me xD
Going back to this vid and I'm remembering when I first watched the teaser version during the live stream, Screaming "MY BABY GIRL" when I saw Ally.
I made me realize how much I grew to love the Twins.
Like two little siblings I never had.
I watched this live when they first released it during FanFestival - and it was 3am here XD It was crazzy - and it was so perfect!
Who all were extra excited on scenes which were in trailer when it came in msq. I definitely was.
I love the song for this trailer so much. Male vocals are Sam Carter from Architects, which is one of my favorite metalcore bands.
Mike is so confused i love it cannot wait yay he is here
The original dragoon Ricard from FF2 rode dragons (well wyvern) so I see it as the final stage of dragoon-ness.
Man, Preach's hair has come a long way since he started FFXIV.
The stormblood part always hits the me hardest.
I learnt from KupoCon recently (great conversation met the voice actors for alisae, alphnaud, Urianger and thancred) that they recorded the lines for the trailer first then the expansion leaving all the grunts and moans etc til last
“My turn!”
Without a doubt the best trailer I've seen for a game.
No matter how many times I watch the HW, SB, ShB, EW trailers they always hit.
Oh, what they showed in that trailer was very much a teaser :P
after finishing Endwalker, whenever I hear Sharlayan theme kicks in. i will get emotional.
You want to see something even cooler? Check out the names of achievements for completing the EW MSQ.
too chaotic to make sense of anything in this trailer
Estinien is in the Stormblood Dragoon quests and we see more of how he's doing post-Heavensward, but not including him more in the main story was a tad disappointing, I agree.
For certain, you won't expect everything that comes. While I personally did predict what the plot would be, I did not expect the crazy shit that would follow.
I really wish I could replay endwalker just for that final walk 🚶♂️
Honestly its just the endwalker logo that gets me hyped
Ooh. Here we go. I still have clips of my run through it active. Good luck. ;)
Imo this was the best trailer out of em all. It still gives me chills.
Rewatching these clips, I miss the old office
This trailer really was an all timer.
20 seconds in and all I'm thinking is MIKE YOUR HAIR LOOKS AMAZING!!!! back to the vid.
embrace it lmao. glad you decided to give this game a chance bro. enjoy :)
grabs bow....cmon preach, moons haunted
Aww was hoping to see the chat and all those catJAM's lol
its funny because ive heard this song about 5000 times in the last two months, but theres plenty of people to still enjoy it
gotta say, i enjoy the Endwalker cinematic a lot more after doing the story than i did before (Or at least up to the last 2 zones since they're not covered in the trailer).
The moon was haunted, too!
why are we on the moon, indeed....
Preach entire chat during this: PepeLaff
I wish the narration were easier to hear in this trailer :(
Uberdanger do be one of peculiar speech
It’s funny how many new ff14 streamers have missed out on minfilia telling them in heavens ward about the moon
Good luck, have fun!
I can't wait for preach to learn fandaniels identity
The thing is, show anything more than this and you spoil parts of the story.
it's a shame the final days only happen in two zones XD
It's funny how little you learn about what actually happens in the story, despite the length of the trailer.
It really captures the 'feel' of the expansion, rather than the story imo.
5:36 he itching his eyes not crying COPIUM
I feel like most of the streamers don't comprehend what the Final Days are
"There wasn't much in the way of teases in that one..."
Lulz.
Most of the Endwalker trailer literally shows only about 10-15% of the expansion
In fact it shows mostly the first 4 hours and a bit in the middle
The rest you'll have to play to see
Soken is amazing
There's no point in overly speculating about Endwalker before you play it. The only advice I give to anyone is that to get the best experience out of it make sure that you've cleared all the base difficulty trials and raids in the game and at least started the Bozja storyline to the point that you've unlocked the area that has it's own rules similar to Eureka. Doing the Eureka storyline wouldn't hurt, either, but I would put it at a lower priority.
i'll always replay the parts with g'raha
The last time I watched a trailer this much in anticipation of a release was The Phantom Menace, and, well, we know how *that* worked out. So I am SO glad Endwalker did NOT disappoint!
