    I’m a CFII, SEL, MEL, FE, 2500+ hours and I still enjoy each of these vids. Yes, a good pilot is always learning and seeking knowledge and new techniques. Thanks for the vid.

    I noticed that you did not brief the plate's date, I think that's also a good practice to make sure you have a valid plate. Thanks for the video as usual, helpful and informative. Happy flying

    Great to meet you today at the AOPA fly-in. Glad the weather cleared up for a few hours. - Please consider doing a weather series that covers practical IFR flying (navigating thunderstorms, warm fronts, cold fronts) in different geographies in the US. Something like the Richard Collins seasons series, but more up to date.

    Great information! I learned to make the annotations on the God's-eye view while flying with paper charts in the AF years ago. With the transition to Foreflight, I find myself zoomed in on the approach and wasting time scrolling down to check the altitude restrictions on the stadium view at just the wrong time. Thanks for helping me to renew some of the old habit patterns. Always great tips!

    ANOTHER awesome video. Thanks Jason. I took your IFR CHECK RIDE course and - of course - passed thanks to the EXCEPTIONAL content and easy to follow methods. I still use your methods to keep my approaches fresh and briefed in (always hectic) Los Angeles air space. I cannot recommend your teaching videos and books enough. And even though you're flying "mach zero", you're still awesome, dude! (You would've been an amazing jockey)

    Does Foreflight save the annotations until they're changed? So you could set that up and always have it for your frequently used airports?

      Tim Farrar You should definitely do that in a crew environment. That is how the airlines train it. The briefs are done around 18,000’ on the descent. No approach briefings on the ground because you have no clue what approach you’re going to get or if you’ll ever need one. Less is more when it comes to retention so you can’t just brief every approach. You should also brief the runway exit plan at the end of the approach brief. An adequate brief should take no more than a minute after both crew members familiarize themselves with the approach. Pilots have short attention spans.

    So what if your instructor gives you your approach 10 minutes away from the airport. I’ve always found this frustrating and confusing and leaves me a little time to do anything.

    Hi Jason! As always, great vids and content. Not sure if you remember me, but I am now interested in obtaining my instrument rating; finally! I currently own a share in an airplane and would like to start preparing and training for my instrument rating. What are the current requirements, and what in your opinion would be the estimated cost to me to take my checkride? I know the cost could vary, but I’m looking for an average cost so I can plan funding. Thank you in advance for your time! Ray

    If your coming in IFR the order of the freqs will like be Approach, ATIS, Approach, Twr (first contact include information "blah blah") and keep Approach in stby for missed.

    Sorry Jason, I think you missed an important point. once we brief the airport and name of the approach, we should immediately verify the valid time of this plate. If that goes wrong, the any following briefing basically does nothing.

    Are there any companies that Finance Flight lessons? I would like to just have a lesson everyweek and get it done but can be a drain on the family resources

    • @ryangee7354
      @ryangee7354 5 лет назад +1

      Yea, but the interest rates are rather high (12%) or so. You are better off paying as you go. Aviation also gets cheaper after the private license. During instrument training, you and another buddy can do the whole safety pilot thing, which costs the cut of flight experience in half. Good luck! Remember, everything has a cost including deciding not to chase something that is important to you. That logic makes it work for me.

    • @DirtNerds
      @DirtNerds 5 лет назад

      @@ryangee7354 Thanks, I see a lot of them want you to have a 800+ credit score as well. $120 for a 172 wet and 40 hr for instruction so total of $160 per hour of flight instruction. I completed the MzeroA ground school while under the trial period took me just under 12 days. I have some past experience but just never finished and Now kids are grown and I need to do this for me and my dad who can't get a pilots lic because he has a heart Cath and 78 now. He was a pilot in the military years back and just never got his private. I want to do this for him and take him for some rides in the Big Wild Blue! I was a SGT in the USMC as well and worked on A-4's, F-4's and F-18's and worked for McDonnell Douglas before they sold to Boeing.

    Uhhhh, totally missed the paragraph of procedural notes in the header section.....if the IAP can be thought of a contract with the FAA for flying a safe procedure, then the procedural notes are the stipulative fine print that one ignores at the risk of violating that contract

    You never verified the date it’s valid for. That’s the first thing I check then move on to the location and rwy.

    • @Banshee365
      @Banshee365 5 лет назад +2

      Charles McKenna ForeFlight really does that for you. And if you’re using Jepp’s, like most all professionals, briefing the effective date is pointless unless you have the log of effective pages somehow memorized. With Jepp’s it’s more important to verify both crew members have the same effective date. The first part of my brief would go something like “This is the ILS 36 at Ocala eleven-dash-one dated the 22nd of February 2019. Do you concur?” Once the other crew member does we move on with the brief from there.

    • @charlesmckenna6164
      @charlesmckenna6164 5 лет назад

      Banchee what is the point of them having the dates on there? People print out the plates before they take off and don’t always read them off the iPads. And maybe they forget to throw away the old ones. And a good IFR preflight plan is to have paper back ups in case your iPad fails for whatever reason.

    • @Banshee365
      @Banshee365 5 лет назад

      Charles McKenna I’m not talking about paper plates. I don’t know any professionals that print out paper plates. If anything they have another iPad. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with verifying the dates on government plates. I commented regarding using ForeFlight for the plates. If you have old paper plates laying around I suppose that’s on the pilot to ensure their legality just like all other documents in aviation.
