  • Been looking for the noir sound quite a while.
This is probably the first piece I got somewhat satisfied with.

Would love a breakdown of what harmonies you are using. It's a sound I have always found hard to get right, but you nailed it

Very nice demonstration of the instrumentation! Definitely has that 1950s take on 1940s you see in later noirs. Similar to what you see in LA Noire.
I will add, and this is not at all a criticism of the great video, for the curious: The movie you're seeing clips from is called The Third Man and is probably my favorite noire. I'd argue one of the best noires. And ironically (again, not a criticism, this video is great) the score is *wildly* different from this. It's a very Austrian zither score done by an actual street performer from Vienna. It's REALLY good, but also kind of an exception to the typical sound of Noire. I'm curious if you picked it because it was so different and you wouldn't really be competing in your head with the original score?

Thank you for the kind words!
It’s funny that you mention this because you are really spot on with a lot of stuff!
I would say LA Noire was my biggest source of inspiration when writing this. I don’t have a lot of experience with jazz but the LA noire score made me wanna do a bit of research!
And I just used a few scenes from The Third Man because it had ”noire-look” and had not seen the film prior to this! Saw the film shortly after and was surprised (in a good way) how the the score differed so much from the typical noire style!!
      So really good observation!!

Hmm, good question I think I remember most of them from writing this!
      Probably:
Keyscape (both pianos and electric pianos)
Cinematic Studio Strings + (CSSS layered)
Symphony Series Brass by NI and Soundiron
      A logic stock plugin drumkit
      Guitar rig 5
Might have blended woodwinds discretly as well, and that must have been
      Symphony Series Woodwinds
      Hope that’s enough help!
Again thanks for your kind words :)
