    As a guitar player....In C MAJOR/A min
    The C MAJOR pentatonic will work over any C MAJOR chord
    The F MAJOR pentatonic will also be within all the notes of the C Major scale
    The G MAJOR pentatonic as will....
    It's easier to do it on the guitar becuase the PATTERN or scale shape looks
    the same..no matter what pitch you play it in.
    The guitar fretboard is like a SLIDE RULER...
    That's why it's easier for me to improves or shift keys on the fly.
    notice..they're relative
    G Major/Emin
    C Major/Amin
    F Major/Dmin
    This allow you to MODULATE...if you know INTERVALS
    You simply add the two notes accordingly for different modes
    example
    C ion = 4, 7
    C lydian #4. 7
    C mix 4, b7
    in other words you can easily shift keys.
    It's the samething with minor pentatonic
    A aeo = 2, b6
    A dor = 2, 6
    A phry = b2, b6
    A loc b2, b5, b6
    There's also the DOMINANT PENTATONIC
    1...x..2....x..3...........5...........b7..x...R
    The same concept
    You can use it as a template to play over any DOMINANT modes to MODULATE
    A dominant chord simply will act as a TONE CENTER to harmonize over.
    Modes from scale aside from the MAJOR scale
    Mix
    mix b2
    mix b6
    mix b2, b6
    mix #4
    mix #2, #4
    Mix b2, #4
    These are also possible dominant....the b4 has the same pitch as Maj3
    loc b4
    loc b4, Maj6
    Loc b4, bb6
    phrygian b4
    example...
    Mix b2, b6 is the V of Harmonic min
    The Mix #4 = IV of melodic min
    mix b6 = V of melodic min
    mix b2 = V of Harmonic MAJOR

      @Donte I figure this out a couple of weeks ago....how to apply it
      over the Melodic minor scale,
      ( ion b3 or dorian Maj7 or Harmonic min with Maj6)
      Lets say you're in A Melodic minor. ( F#, G#)
      You can play the B minor pentatonic over the II chord ( B dorian b2)
      You can also play the Dominant pentatonic over the IV ( D mix #4)
      and the V ( Mix b6)
      You'll still be within all the notes of A melodic minor.
      it helps me play it in different ways ( I mix them up)
      but to keep it simple...(as a point of reference)
      Im going to play the ....II, V, VI of melodic minor
      it's sort of like playing I, IV, V...
      D dorian b2..............E mix b6..........F# aeo b5
      if I play D Dominant pentatonic over the D Mix #4 ( lydian dominant)
      Im going to count from the D as a sort of tonic,..( it;s just for reference)
      I......................III..........................V
      D mix #4 F# aeo b5 A melodic min
      E dominant over the Mix b6
      E mix b6 G# loc b4 B Dorian b2
      The Melodic min ..is a Dorian with a Leading tone ( Maj7)
      If you want to play D melodic minor on the piano..
      Simply play the C# note...or play A7 into D minor
      ( then just pretend you're in F MAJOR/D minor ( play the Bb note)
      anyways.....the mode in the 5th degree of the dominant pentatonic.
      It's sort of dorian becuase of the Maj6
      R.................b3............4..........5...........6...................R
      Jazz and blues player play the melodic minor forward and backwards.lol
      sometimes I play it like this..using min penta or dominant over each chord.
      A min.......D min E min
      A min D min E7
      A min D7 E7
      or
      A min B7 to E Major7 to E Major via E Harmonic MAJOR)
      or I can play G#7 into C# min
      or A min.......B7 ...into E min ( it'll be as if I modulate to G MAJOR/E min
      so it's sort of an overlap ( COMMON chords)
      A min......D7......to E min
      A min B min to E min
      A min B7 to E harmonic minor
      A7 B7 to E melodic minor

      @Donte yes and No...I played the flute in second grade
      Then the Sax in middle school and HS. ( marching band..ect)
      I knew the circle of 5th before I knew algebra.lmao
      My dad got me my own electric guitar when I was 12...
      becuase he didnt want me to scratch his gibson LP.lmao
      My dad is a better musician than I am..we had all kinds of
      instruments in the house. The keyboard...ect
      He sings, plays in blue grass or folk band.
      He plays more instruments than me..
      Anyways..Plenty of music books.
      Sometimes dad would give all the kids music lessons.lmao
      He wasnt into hard rock. metal...ect..So I had to figure out
      all that stuff on my own..but it was good ear training.
      Dad also had a music studio (LOCK)...i was a kid.
      I'd break in and play with all his toys.lmao
      I also had one on one lessons (class) during school hours on top
      regular band class...Then i had music history.
      All of this was while I was in middle school.
      It was insane...I had to play the flute in the middle of school yard
      every day..everyone in school can hear me.lol
      i was into rock and metal..so i had to figure out all my favorite
      songs by ear....
      i also had guitar class ...on top of marching band class.
      I tried out for the HS rock band...but the music teacher
      put my in the Jazz band instead, ( that sucks..but I got go to Hawaii)
      I had...Marching band, Jazz band, classical Guitar class ..
      then came home and play rock and metal all might.

    Why the pantatonic notes are arranged in this way particularly, i mean what's the Idea & theory behind making such pantatonic scales..?

    • @jacksguitarplanet
      @jacksguitarplanet 2 года назад

      Hi. I am no expert but my guess is that the semi tone intervals are removed. The Major pentatonic is missing the 4 & 7. The minor pentatonic is missing the 2 & 6. This leaves three chord tones and two of the “stronger” remaining tones. The result is a more versatile scale with less clash. Of course that could also be viewed as more boring. I hope that helped. 🙂

    • @haruyasumi616
      @haruyasumi616 10 месяцев назад

      it's possible to have pentatonic scales with semi tone intervals.
      in fact, i make most of my music using the Iwato scale which has two sets of notes with only a semitone interval. My guzheng is tuned to A, B, C, E, F. even so if you improvise over other music sticking to that scale, it's impossible to sound dischordant.

  • @wanderingrandomer
    @wanderingrandomer 4 года назад

    So, I'm new to music: what do you mean that all chords "fit" the pentatonic scale? Is it that there's no dissonance? I just struggle to understand by what metric does a chord "fit" a scale in the sense you mean it. Like, a standard major scale has 7 diatonic triads, but obviously you can't have 7 in a pentatonic scale without going chromatic, so wouldn't the lower amount of notes limit it more?

    • @Sofie424
      @Sofie424 4 года назад

      Yes and yes. Personally I think children should be taught the pentatonic scale first, as getting unintended dissonances can put a damper on the willingness to improvise, while the pentatonic scale is "safe" to improvise with. There are of course songs that require more tones & dissonance.

  • @supervato1000
    @supervato1000 6 лет назад

    When you say any chord of the scale fits do you mean, using a note in a scale as a root note in a chord. I'm new to music theory lol. Great content, true genius

    • @andersonbadari
      @andersonbadari 6 лет назад

      Well, not necessarily must be the root. It could be the third or the fifth - in order to sound "perfect". But, it could be any note of the scale (but, in this case, if you play a C major as a chord and your melody is playing a D at the same moment, you will have a felling that the current chord is a Csus2 or a C9 chord...but this could be done without any problems)

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  6 лет назад

      You can construct chords off of any scale. For C major, those would be C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim.
