Thank you so much for making this video!! I’ve been working on improving my vision. When you said: “During a PnR ALWAYS survey the opposite side as well as directly where you came from.” This has helped me massively!!
This is one of the best bball channels on youtube, for real! keep up the great work, love your video and learning a lot. Really paying attention to the detail.
I think you should include footage of situations in which the hard hedge and trap work, and then point out why the offense didn't execute in those situations.
The pick and roll is like the most fundamental set used in hoops. In the 90's the P&R was used in a zillion ways by NBA and college teams. Phil Jackson was very innovative by combining this standard move with his Triangle offense. A lot of the young guys in the NBA today like to freelance and dipsy doodle all over the boards without employing this very effective play.
Phil used it with triangle but most nba offenses want to go to ball screen first to attack mismatch, gsw did that to horford in playoffs but teams like suns just use pick and roll to utilize Paul's vision. You are right in the sense now pick and roll is used to get the star shot more than the 90's
Yo I really appreciate what your doing here and putting all these videos together and really breaking things down for us. It's very straightforward. Keep up the good work!!
Pick and Roll lead defense away from screen protect, hip turn hesitate away go shoulder to shoulder Change Speeds Look for help defender Contain (Big Drops) Pull up Try to attack inside, more than outside Snake screen, go around and pull up Look for people helping off Soft hedge The screener’s man comes, so roller will be there Glide around the screen ARM BAR BALL IN FRONT stay tight Hard hedge Split the D If cannot split D, pass to roller immediately Pull up, or floater Trap Get the ball out quickly if you cannot split the D Pass early, but do not make it obvious Retreat, then attack Ice (forcing baseline) Fake going over the screen Dribble out, look for roll Dribble baseline, look for pop On Ball Cheats Reject the screen by selling it Pull up Look for roll Look for help defenders On Ball Goes Under the screen Attack every time If not, pull up 8. Switch a. Back out, attack any of the switches
Maybe it's splitting hairs but I think a lot of these clips are more "ball screens" and less pick and rolls. But ball screens are a really great evolution of the game. But still a great vid with great guard info.
oh my gosh, this was a FANTASTIC video. i would suggest slowing the text down, and also slowing some video down as well. still, A+ video, holy moley dude. I learned so much! l always appreciate an academic, evidence based analysis in culture or academic discussion, and you've done it well with basketball
J.C.3 香港飛龍 has every team run it? Yes, at one point or another. Is it the primary tool in their offense? Outside of San Antonio, Golden State, and Houston? Not at all. Nowadays it’s a lot more isolation and subsequently piss poor shooting.
why don't nba teams do more of utah jazz free-throw line/ side pick n roll. especially if you a good roll/pop big man and a decent ball handler? A team like clippers should use it more often cause they got cp3 and blake.
Great video. Your content is really well made and informative, but I want to point out some things that are a little confusing. In part 7, you say that if the defender goes under the screen, you should drive every time, but then in the next clip, you say you should take a pull up jumpshot, which one? Or in the first clip about when the big contains, you say to go one on one with the big, but in the next clip, you show examples of guards splitting high hedges, something completely irrelevant to attacking the big. After rewatching a few times, I understand, but I think someone who wants to learn might get confused. Great job though, I expect your channel to become really successful.
+Dylan Quinlan agreed, it may come across as a little confusing. There are so many different reads to the pick and roll, and even to each situation it presents. If we just showed one read, we would be shortchanging you guys, because the best pick and roll players have all of these in their arsenal. I guess the word "always" made it confusing.
By Any Means Basketball You're definitely right. I think some reads may overlap each other and sometimes the only way to choose is experience. Still, I can't stress how good your videos are and I expect this channel to blow up.
Sorry about that, I didn't purposely do it but the song I used in this video and the Chris Paul video caused it to be blocked in some countries. It won't happen again!
Appreciate it man. Are you on mobile? If so, some people are having problems viewing on their phones. If you can, it should be available on a computer.
Having trouble grasp the definition of "hedge" ,"drop", and "contain"... I've googled it up and still cannot understand Any one kind enough to do this Asian a favor ?
張致瑋 hedge is when the big man on defense is defending sharply right off the screens there is soft hedges where you can just glide and make a play or aggressive ones where you split the defense. A contain is where you come off the screen and you control the pace of the trailer to buy time to either attack the rim or dish it to your roller. Drop is when the big man on defense is zoning he's dropping back

I love these. This is exactly what I was hoping to find! You got a new sub here! The Chris Paul one was the one that got me to this channel
Yo thanks a ton for uploading my request. Best basketball channel on RUclips in my opinion.
Best pick and roll vid I’ve seen. Even helped me with setting up my defender so they can’t go over before the screen gets set

Stockton and Malone. Pick and roll helped them to never miss the playoffs for 18yrs.

Learned a lot from your videos. Love it!
this needs to be available
Great video will you do throwback legends for player breakdowns?
Yep!
youre so informative. i love this channel
The oldest play in basketball, but also the best play in basketball. I wish more NBA teams would adopt a P&R style offense.
elzombito5678 bruh..... literally every single team uses the pick and roll idk what you're saying
J.C.3 香港飛龍 has every team run it? Yes, at one point or another. Is it the primary tool in their offense? Outside of San Antonio, Golden State, and Houston? Not at all. Nowadays it’s a lot more isolation and subsequently piss poor shooting.
J.C.3 香港飛龍 I think what he means is that he wishes that the pick and roll becomes a staple of team’s offenses. Otherwise, you are right.
Amazing vid. Loved it
One of the best ones I’ve seen
1:28 Reads
No one does it better than Stockton I'm alone you should just show them doing it

Great video thanks!
What is that beat? It's amazing
Logic - Run It
Can you do post moves or anything for a big man? Thanks
Big man slip? Very effective when the big defender is prepared to hedge hard or switch.
Agreed. We will probably make a big man version soon.
Amazing breakdown
Great video, also is there a guide about how to block effectively? If so do you mind linking me the video?
Thanks!🖒🖒💯
Why is it more effective to attack the inside when attacking a big?
It’d be hard for them to flip their hip because their momentum is already going slightly to the outside
Do a Jamal Crawford attention to detail or handles break down plz
I vibe with the Logic Instrumental

+By Any Means Basketball Thanks

hey man, you might want to use royalty free music....i make beats and im not looking to get paid or anything, just love the game of basketball.
You don't need to explain how the pick n roll works or how to do it.
Just show 10 minutes of Stockton to Malone videos.
Something happen to the video it's no longer available for me

This background music is annoying
the most powerful P&R is curry&durant
What I learned: This guy loves Steve Nash and hates his audience’s ears.
