One of the few UHD's for a newly released film where the difference between 1080p and 4k is noticeable outside of HDR. It's no wonder this one is hard to find at the moment!
The 1080p Blu-ray is certainly acceptable, but definitely a big step down from the exceptional 4K rendering. Flatter, duller, and a bit murkier, Oppenheimer on Blu-ray keeps the viewer at arm's length. When I ejected the Blu-ray and went back to 4K, I felt as if I was looking at a totally different movie. The 4K disc is reference-quality stuff and anyone who enjoyed Oppenheimer in any theatrical format will be dazzled by this A-plus presentation.

The picture looks amazing. And the audio track is getting positive words by everyone for its dynamics... But why tf is this movie maximum doing 220 nits ☠️ the explosion is like 180 while it should be 2000. Really other than that it's amazingly well done
While one might assume that, considering its wide popularity and the need to accommodate various screen capabilities, including those with lower HDR levels, the approach would be different. But the reality seems to be different. With Christopher Nolan directing, the intention is likely to remain faithful to the reference analog print and preserve a more balanced and nuanced representation of the highlights. Films from the analog film era, which Nolan himself deeply appreciates, were originally shot and finalized with a specific rendering intent in mind: the one achieved with film projectors. Significantly increasing the brightness of the highlights would indeed represent a significant departure from Nolan's chosen aesthetic. And, what is certain is that C.N was involved in the conception of this UHD Blu-ray edition, so we can reasonably assume that his choices have been respected.
Just watched the movie on 4k-Bluray today. Looks absolutely awesome. Don't get fooled by the low peak brightness value (around 200 nits). Christopher Nolan never really used eye blinding highlights to flash the viewer. And this movie does not need this either :)
j'ai l'édition combo 4K + blu ray, et franchement c'est le blu ray 1080p le plus hallucinant que j'ai jamais vu, il est si piqué, contrasté et les couleurs très bien équilibré, au début j'ai crus que je m'étais trompé de disque et que c'était la version 4K, il est bon à ce point. Merci pour votre travail, par contre les gars le comparatif de gamut couleur sur une image noir et blanc ça va pas trop marcher 😆 Pas besoin de cette partie sur les images n&b 😅
Beau gain de netteté, notamment sur les passages tournés en IMAX. Pour l'avoir vu de mes yeux le HDR apporte beaucoup en terme de couleur et de luminosité.
thanks. I thought the BD did not have AR switching. Turns out it is the the streaming release and DVD release that do not have AR switching. To confirm, AR switching is exclusive to BD and 4k BD releases. @@Tavostor
Un film très très bavard et beaucoup d'interconnexion de personnages autant dire qu'il fallait suivre et ne pas être distrait 😮💨. Bon film mais la musique omniprésente fatigué vraiment au lieu de laisser des moments sans.

Why are the BD shots in the same aspect ratio as the 4k for all screenshots...were the 4k cropped?

Exactly what I expected from a newer film. I’m happy there’s not much difference except sharpness. That’s the way it should be.
