The people that are complaining that this remaster only darkens the film are ignoring the fact that the Xeno's blue screen effects are drastically better composited in the 4k remaster. All the "fluff" on the edges of the Xeno when it's approaching Ripley in Clemins' office, for instance, is shaved to perfection.

If it makes any sense, while Aliens can be considered a better movie, Alien 3 is actually more true and comes from the same energy that the original came from.
@@SomebodyBumbleBee If this also makes sense I view Alien as the anti-Star Wars. IE Star Wars basically comes from a very romantic background and is all about how there is an ever present present force of good AND an always present force of evil and the two are stuck in an inevitable and larger than life fight. And the stories of the saga shows us that good will triumph and that with the right virtues and correct mindset, the hope, love, and virtues our heroes have will spread to the far corners of the galaxy. All the heroes are larger than life, the endings of the heroes are glorious (be it bittersweet or happy), and the adventures are symbolic of all the fantastical and huge elements we view epic lives as. Alien on the other hand is the complete anti-thesis to that. It says that should we go to space instead what would happen is that we would inevitably come across life that poses a huge threat to us that could spell disaster for everybody, it positions its characters as survivors more than heroes, and it's all about how people live and die as they would in those actual scenarios. IE there are no glorious deaths or epic Shakespearean endings and conclusions. Instead the opposing force just kills so many rather graphically and suddenly without allowing them glory. As Ash said in the original, it doesn't care about any of that. James Cameron made a great film, but by all means he sort of appropriated the context, meaning, and thematic structure of the original into a big action blockbuster. It's good, it's just that the overly grim, cynical, and tough love feel that made the original so meaningful is sort of lost in it. Alien 3 sure as hell has many problems that Aliens doesn't, but the idea it's a movie that tells Ripley she doesn't get her happy ending and is surrounded by people who get cut down regardless of how much she may want them to be in her life is more true to the original. Especially the concept that her story would inevitably end with the best-case scenario that she would only be able to take the aliens with her. I kind of view Resurrection very similar to The Rise of Skywalker to boot. The fanbase was so deadset on wanting the franchise to undo the last installment because they thought it was about "insulting" their happy endings and heroes (when really it was just sticking true to what the franchise was all about to begin with) and the studio executives did just that. Didn't want Ripley to die in 3 and pissed that she lost Newt and Hicks? Well, she's been cloned again and now she has Rider and Pearlman to replace that void! Didn't like the fact there wasn't enough action in 3? Well now there are more aliens again and they're even smarter now! Didn't like the fact people die suddenly without glory or warning? Well now everybody is a super star action figure in this one! As one person on Jim Sterling's defense of Alien 3 said, people actually had the gall to complain about Resurrection when the fanbase was the one calling for it to be made in the first place.

My issue as a kid even, watching all these films, was that from ALIENS to this, the rod puppet alien FX with incorrect black levels and matte lines stood out to me even back then... so VERY NICE job fixing that up as that was one element that sort of tarnished an otherwise stellar series of films with ahead-of-their-time effects that hold up.
The worst part of this film is the alien effects when it is shown full body. The cut and paste effect looks awful. I would pay for a version that simply replaced the alien with modern effects.
@@projecta34k8 I truly hope that you fix or remove the cracking alien scene towards the end. That effect shot was the weakest in the whole film, in my opinion.

Glad to see you're using the dog instead of the Ox. I think it works better if it busted from a dog more because I think it's because of the toyline where it had horns on the head made me go yeah that.
2:49 is the one shot in the film that really bugs me the most. You can see Morse is already trying to look down the hallway as if the Alien has already gone down there. Yet as you see the Alien is to the left of the frame and is for some reason about the size of a German Shepard. The Alien doesn't even enter the hallway but Morse is trying to looking down it instead of focusing on the Alien which is right next to him. Its a real tricky one to try and fix and have it make sense. One thing I can think of is cutting the snarling face bit just before it starts panning and having it already standing in the door frame slowly edging towards Dillion and Ripley. That way by the time they both exit the frame as he's pulling her back Morse looks correct at looking at it from where he is and the Alien doesn't know he's standing there because its focused on Dillion and Ripley. A new shot of the puppet standing and from behind would have to be sourced to do that though, but it would work.
Is this project still alive? I hope so! Looks great 👍🏼 And i love the fact that you chose the dog. That's the only thing i didn't like about the assembly cut

I love this movie and thank you for doing this project. Has anyone ever tried reanimating the alien as full integrated CGI or is it more about retaining what is already there?
Hello! You also have a fan base from Russia! In our country, we especially love this franchise because of nostalgia and some little things. Can you give an approximate release date for the project? Where will you post the material and what languages will it support? Thank you very much for your work! You contributed more than the 20th Century Fox studio itself.
Hey there! Thanks so much for the support. I am still working on this. Actually quite a lot these days, and I'm optimistically hoping to have it finished by this coming fall. I keep setting deadlines and missing them because it's such a labour intensive job for just one person, but I am now finishing up the last ten shots that need to be fixed and I'm making a good pace. Thanks!
I've been dreaming of a 4K remaster of the assembly cut but with the dog burster scene instead of the ox. What you're doing seems to be pretty close to that. Is this something you want to share? Is it finished? Can't seem to find anything useful online. Some of the frames shown here look very saturated, especially if you look at the skin tone e.g. 1:00, 1:44, 2:28
It is because they are truer blacks, which make the image sharper. But there is also more depth to images and colors look better. If only I could watch it like this. It is great but also frustrating, same as the a new hope revisited in HD and return of the jedi renewed. You see plenty of images and trailers but you never actually get to see it or no one ever seems to have a link. So there is no real proof they actually exist in video form in this quality or color correction. It is just frustrating.
Looks good black lines around xenomorph were fixed same with bad lighting on him but i have mixed feelings about grain removal because while it sounds like improvement removing grain also cause screen to be more blurry. I think upscaling would be better without DNR screen would be even more sharper and there is nothing wrong about grain in older movies its add to atmosphere in my opinion i like to see grain in older movies especially Sci-Fi and in games that take inspiration in art design from older Sci-Fi movies. btw making movie darker was unnecessary in my opinion but i guess it was made to hide grain even more.
I don’t think YT is doing your work justice, the improvements of the VFX and color grading are very apparent whereas the uptick in resolution is barely noticeable, also it could be that much of the film grain that I hope is still there for the 4K was “compressed away” by RUclips…
I'd love to talk to you about this if possible, just some thoughts I had reading about your combination of both cuts, wouldn't it be great to put us in as much the dark as Ripley? I think you should cut everything Alien from the opening, no eggs, no facehugger, the ambiguity would work much better at building tension in the viewer, we see Spike barking at the EEV inside but see nothing ourselves, then see Murphy remarking on Spike's face burns and wonder, then have our suspicions confirmed during the funeral and not twenty minutes later Ripley's on the same page as us much better I think. That's all, I really hope to see this done soon, I have been waiting for something like this for ten years ever since the Blu-ray Special Edition release.
Great minds think alike. I've done just that. It's completely taken out of the credits, although we do see the hugger in the EEV. Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
Im curious to see if they will doing anything about that weird "bucket clip". It always bothered me that if you freeze frame the scene where they accidently light the fire you can see that the bucket on the floor actually changes shape - the wide shot when you see the lighter being dropped in slow motion was apparently stretched out in editing but just as the lighter hits the floor you can momentarily see the shot in it's normal proportion (its a blink and you miss it shot).
I really wish they would do the assembly cut (which is good) but update the alien affects...get rid of the puppet green screen stuff and CGI it...would make a huge difference
Is this project dead? Videos posted years ago and nothing new since. Would love to help make this happen as it doesn’t look like 20th century/disney is going show this film any love in the future.
This movie is a masterpiece. I'll never understand why a studio is breaking balls. A filmaker doesn't need white collars to step on his toes telling what do. But hey, they failed : the movie is awesome ! Who wants a bubblegum xenomorph ? They suck, stay at your desk, pricks !ALIEN 3 aged gracefully and has been a favorite of mine. I saw it twice in theaters and have the blu-ray. It's a perfect trilogy.
Can fix Dillon glasses when he and Ripley fight when she wants him killing her and his glasses fly and then his glasses are in his head? The rest, you only should darken the blue screen composites. Great work erasing the matte lines off!
Great fixing of that crappy Xenomorph compositing. Am I right that you had to re-generate the background plane and then mask the Alien so there will be crisp edges?
Hello Project A34K. I'm having trouble reaching your website for updates and all I get is a squarespace white page that says website expired. What gives?
I can barely discern any difference in the shots not featuring the alien puppet. Why did you include them in this slideshow? There are many other shots of the puppet which you could have included here.
Minor differences for a bigger price. I’m a huge Alien fan. The Blu Ray version of all 3 films are amazing on my 75 inch Sony. I’ll keep what I have thanks.
To me, the low resolution, the granularity of the image, suited quite well with Alien 3 movie. No need for 4K update. I mean it is a dirty movie isn’t it ? 😅
Top 10 best sci-fi films of all time and the best in the franchise. I'd rather see something akin to the treatment that Star Wars was given and fix the awful FX that appear in the film. They should have stuck with the models and the suits. The Assembly Cut in 4K would be more welcome than a remaster of the original cut. The Assembly Cut is far superior.
@@projecta34k8 I was just wondering. I know of the unreleased full cut, even knew a guy years and years ago that actually had a work print of it because his family worked in Hollywood; he showed me his small collection of them, most of which has no sound recordings and we're all on VHS review tapes. But no, I don't have access to any of that, I don't even know if that guy is alive anymore it was so long ago. 😔

@@projecta34k8 So you're editing together between the two, or are you just revamping both? I always thought they made a mistake of editing out the dog, because it makes the ventilator fan sequence awkward, as Spike was never introduced, though if the ox was removed the queen facehugger would lose it's scene; if property edited though, it could definitely lead to an interesting misdirection.
@@noheroespublishing1907 Yeah I'm just making the one version. It's gto a lot of little edits and tweaks. If you want a full breakdown you can check out the website www.a34k.net
I have no problem with contrast especially as it's a dark toned movie anyway but the skin tones like ALiens i feel are a bit overdone in my opinion. probably used the midtone detail function in Davinci Resolve maybe but looking at this there are only skin tone paws showing where there is saturated colour in Ripleys face at 0.43 the rest of her skin looks smooth which looks rather weird.
@@generationwhyentertainment2455 Oh for sure I hate it dying too, it's awful. But isn't the harrowing death a better companion to the funeral scene than the Xeno just flopping out of a dead cow?
@@projecta34k8 I mean the problem is how it comes out partially developed in the dog scene. it once again makes more sense that it would be on all fours already coming out of the Ox because it probably like tried to get out but couldn't bust through the Ox's chest so the Ox died from internal injuries and the xeno just had to chill for a bit and develop until it was strong enough to come out. If that four legged thing was in the dog it would be very noticeable lol
I mean the rod puppet and digital alien still looks crappy. It only looks great when it’s animatronic or the guy in the suit. There’s a scene towards the end, when it’s hiding in a crevice and Ripley and Dillon are trying to lure it out, it looks incredible as it’s the man in suit. Its tail is whipping around over its head like a scorpion, and it’s very intimidating.
@@MoviesRemastered It's not just the special effects I'm fixing, it's my own edit of the film as well, so technically neither the Theatrical or the Assembly. Mostly it's the Assembly but a couple of short scenes that were Theatrical cut only have been added back in, the ox has been removed and the dog brought back, plus I've made a few of my own small edits for narrative purposes. I've cleaned up and removed hundreds of warped frames from the film, did some work to improve the sound design, created a couple of small, brand new shots made from scratch, and upscaled the entire film to 4K. The Legacy cut will be it's own beast. Trust me, it's something to look forward to.

in all these shots youre just making the print darker, in most cases in fact youre actually losing information in the frame. at the end of the day you cant really make a true 4k version from a digital format with less than 4k resolution. you need to start with the source negative. upscaling never looks good. and im not even sure this is even upscaled- just a color correction, on a film that doesnt need a color correction. yea some of the matting looks better on these still images. id like to see in motion.

Thanks!
Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
I could see the legacy cut being included if "Alien 3" were released by Scream Factory. Man, the artwork for that release could be beautiful.
I wish! CHeck out the new trailer if you're interested!
Anthology on blu ray had all the version you need and the picture quality is awesome
The bad effects on the alien always took me off the movie but now the effects on the alien looks much better..
With this video I realize the alien fx could've been so much better if they had better techniques for blue/green screens back then
Don't care what people say,,,I still loved ALIEN 3
The DNR was unnecessary. The faces look waxy now, and the black level is excessive, but the composited blue screen effects improve those scenes a lot.
That's been corrected since this video was posted. Check out the new trailer for a more up to date reflection of how everything looks :)
Looks great are you adding all the assembly cut deleted scenes? 4K remaster would be awesome for alien and aliens aswell.
So the image is darker now, nice
It is because they are truer blacks, which make the image sharper. But there is also more depth to images and colors look better. If only I could watch it like this. It is great but also frustrating, same as the a new hope revisited in HD and return of the jedi renewed. You see plenty of images and trailers but you never actually get to see it or no one ever seems to have a link. So there is no real proof they actually exist in video form in this quality or color correction. It is just frustrating.
Watch it again, bozo
@@bernardstrauss1183you are the bozo
Sharpen + slightly raise saturation + slightly lower contrast = "4k remaster"
That's not what's going on in this video. Plus it's an old video, there are more up to date videos on the channel that reflect how it will look.
I've corrected the grain removal since the last update. Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
Wow, what an amazing job. Will be an german soundtrack on board?
I don’t think YT is doing your work justice, the improvements of the VFX and color grading are very apparent whereas the uptick in resolution is barely noticeable, also it could be that much of the film grain that I hope is still there for the 4K was “compressed away” by RUclips…
With Prey out now's the right time for this.
Lighting on the alien needs to be fuxed/adjusted. That is the main culprit of this film.
2:46 - The best thing about this is that the green edging on the xenomorph was removed.
This looks better than James Cameron's AI upscales and you didn't change the color grading.
id really love to watch this version :) looks way better!
This has been fixed
I really wish they would do the assembly cut (which is good) but update the alien affects...get rid of the puppet green screen stuff and CGI it...would make a huge difference
Great color compositing, but I think you tried to hard to remove the beautiful film grain.
I've since corrected that, appreciate the feedback. Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
The music to this movie is 👌🏼 Great movie too.
It looks amazing! Do you know release date?

The fixes to the Xenomorph puppet effects look great, but the upscaling looks a little too smooth or artificial in places.
Up scaled blu ray works great.
if you put the dog back in too, now it will be the perfect version.
Is this project dead? Videos posted years ago and nothing new since. Would love to help make this happen as it doesn’t look like 20th century/disney is going show this film any love in the future.
This is amazing. Can’t wait! Thanks for doing this movie justice.
"Hey! You guys wanna completely light 3:15 of your lives on fucking fire??"
Um, thanks?
I think there is a better cut between the two versions but the assembly cut is awesome
WHEN ARE YOU RELEASING?!
Aiming for this October, I've just released a new trailer!
This will just be epic hey!!
I prefer the ox, but I'll give it a watch if it comes out.
Is getting more darker! That’s it!
Great job!
All the extra stuff now with dog
Brilliant
Best of both!
Great fixing of that crappy Xenomorph compositing. Am I right that you had to re-generate the background plane and then mask the Alien so there will be crisp edges?
Pigs can actually fly🤨
Eagerly awaiting the next update.
Update will be coming soon, thanks for your patience!
Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
the ost of this movie blows out of the water all the other ones easily
Hope this comes out soon.

The edition with doggo not cow?
REALLY GREAT WORK are you still working on the cut? is the finish line almost there?
Work is ongoing yeah. I wouldn't want to make promises I can't keep, but aside from unforeseen issues it should be out there in 2022

I have to say this but the theatrical cut is 10 times better then the assembly cut
They both have their strong points, I've taken elements of each
Can you tell us what the method was that you used for the upscale? Ai?
Yeah AI, it's the only option for a civillian. Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
Hello Project A34K. I'm having trouble reaching your website for updates and all I get is a squarespace white page that says website expired. What gives?
Not to fear, friendo. Slight technical glitch, it'll be back up and running by the weekend :)
Are we still on for an October release?
@@VenusHeadTrap2 I wouldnt want to promise 100% as we're still ironing out a few kinks, but that's still very much the plan

Ho yeah, I wait for this
Is it done?
Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
I can barely discern any difference in the shots not featuring the alien puppet. Why did you include them in this slideshow? There are many other shots of the puppet which you could have included here.
Please just do a 4K version of the Assembly cut
The Legacy Cut is the best of both! Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
Legacy cut???
Magnificent... How can I get it?
If you email throuhg the website I'll add you to the mailing list
@@projecta34k8 thank you, man, for the hard work.
Lord Tywin
Well spotted
hate to say it, but the blueray color grading is better. you lost some detail here by cranking up the contrast
Will the queen bursting at the end be back?
Yup, and vastly improved visually
Minor differences for a bigger price. I’m a huge Alien fan. The Blu Ray version of all 3 films are amazing on my 75 inch Sony. I’ll keep what I have thanks.
Price? It's a fan project for fun
34K views. Perfect
Alien 3 is actually great as a stand alone, but as a sequel to Alien 2. its a big downer.
Is this going to contain any of the unreleased scenes we know that were shot?
If you know where I can find them in decent quality I'd certainly consider it
@@projecta34k8 I was just wondering. 😔
@@noheroespublishing1907 It's a nice thought for sure, and if I could get my hands on them I'd definitely love to bring some new scenes to the viewers, but I think we're limited to the Theatrical Cut and Assembly Cut I'm afriad :(
@@projecta34k8 So you're editing together between the two, or are you just revamping both? I always thought they made a mistake of editing out the dog, because it makes the ventilator fan sequence awkward, as Spike was never introduced, though if the ox was removed the queen facehugger would lose it's scene; if property edited though, it could definitely lead to an interesting misdirection.
@@noheroespublishing1907 Yeah I'm just making the one version. It's gto a lot of little edits and tweaks. If you want a full breakdown you can check out the website www.a34k.net

Chnage of brightness thats all i see
I agree. Bollocks to it, man.

Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
The only thing I wasn't happy with was the musical score...some things worked but mostly it didnt..
I've made a couple of adjustments but I confess the score is one of my favourite parts of the film
If I could get an Assembly cut with the shit CGI xenomorph replaced with a more practical approach… that would be perfection
It looks so bad because it IS a practical effect. It would look better with CGI.
Is it supposed to look worse?
ugh you're not dropping the Ox are you? the Ox makes more sense than the dog because of how big the fucking Dragon is
Yeah sorry haha, The oox is laaaaaaame. Scaling problems aside (I do get the size argument) the dog is just cooler in every way.
@@projecta34k8it’s only because they couldn’t train the ox to do anything. I get the sentiment but I also kinda hate the dog dying as well 😢
@@generationwhyentertainment2455 Oh for sure I hate it dying too, it's awful.
Why are you removing film grain... what a disaster.
That's since been corrected. Aiming for release this October. Check out the new trailer!
Great job! new Sub here :)
And my first commenter. Welcome aboard, pal!
@@projecta34k8 haha! Looking forward to seeing your progression on this. Are you working on both editions or just the Theatrical cut?
@@projecta34k8 Hi bro, I'm a big fan of your job and alien 3. When will your version be ready? Will I be able to look at her somewhere?

in all these shots youre just making the print darker, in most cases in fact youre actually losing information in the frame. at the end of the day you cant really make a true 4k version from a digital format with less than 4k resolution. you need to start with the source negative. upscaling never looks good. and im not even sure this is even upscaled- just a color correction, on a film that doesnt need a color correction. yea some of the matting looks better on these still images. id like to see in motion.
I genuinely like Alien Cubed for the most part, but god are the alien effects awful.

@@thegercast4794 Wait wait. Are you implying the effects in Who Framed Roger Rabbit are bad?
@@johng6565 no, i'm saying the alien looked like a cartoon inserted into live action. "roger rabbit" is great.
@@thegercast4794 Ah, gotcha. I agree with you one hundred percent. I do think the practical alien effects in 3 look great though. Have you seen Cool World? I thought that was the kind of comparison you were making between Alien 3 and Roger Rabbit
