@@unpeeled_ yeah, I've done several thousand skydives. Don't get me wrong - this is still very impressive, and not something I would ever do myself 🙂 - I just mean that purely in terms of surviving the stunt, as long as he cleared the ramp successfully then he wasn't really in much danger. The video presents the height of the cliff as though it makes it more impressive, but in fact in a scenario like this additional height is your friend. 4,000 feet is extremely high for a BASE jump, so he had plenty of time to get clear of the cliff, get into a comfortable position and deploy his parachute. Looking at the footage here I can see he's wearing a skydiving rig, not a BASE rig. That means he had a reserve parachute in case anything went wrong with the main - a luxury that BASE jumpers don't typically have, because when you're jumping from hundreds of feet rather than thousands of feet up there isn't time to deploy a reserve in the event of a malfunction. I'm more impressed by the discipline and skill on show here than the courage - being able to leave the ramp at the right speed and trajectory to get the perfect shot, holding onto the bike for the right length of time, and so on.
It's a very impressive stunt, but not really that dangerous. The fact that the cliff is over 4,000 feet tall actually makes it safer.
What??? Dude it’s intense, have you ever been skydiving?
