I wasn't sure if I liked the slower style of choreography, but the longer this went on the more I found to love about it. Yes the effects were amazing, and in a rare occurrence for choreography they actually helped raise the level of it rather than just being there for flashiness. That killing blow was perhaps the most brutal I've seen yet!
like how you guys did the whole stopping the light saber with the force thing like the star wars old republic cinematic but made it your own with a slight twist... very well done
Effects where fantastic. The acting was great, just enough to be believable without over doing it. Story was intriguing, simple yet effective. The only gripe I have is the choreography could do with being a little more tightened up. I'm sure its early days yet, I'm going to be back to watch more of these if you continue to do such good work.
Well I have to say that that was downright badass. The cinematography was brilliant, as were the effects. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
outside of the one handed to two handed to one handed head piercing ending with with lightsaber, this was very good. also, nice to finally hear luke's music used in a well done video.
Was in love with the effects and it's really nice to see a light side double bladed lightsaber but man he didn't know how to use it xd. He was trying to use it as if it were a baseball bat but other than that it was really good.
Thanks! The energy effects were a plugin called fumefx for 3dsmax using multiple passes and variations. The rest was masking in After Effects ad nauseum. Oh the pain of saber roto!
along with the expensive looking viz effects (which is good because I assume they weren't.) the choice of location (with the industrial backdrop across the stream there) really lends to the mise-en-scene. complete with solid audio effects. very very good. also, much more bloody than the real films :p
Overall Enjoyment - I liked it, it was a really cool short film with cool action and impressive special effects, and for a one shot had a pretty good story. Though it may have been saddled down slightly from me seeing several clear-cut copies of certain scenes from several Star Wars fights such as Satele vs Malgus, which hampered it a bit for me. 8/10 Wish you luck on the competition, if it's not over already. Very good shortfilm!
I was really keen to get some Tie Interceptor stuff happening around the duel, but we literally had only 4 weeks to shoot, edit and bust out a huge list of vfx by the competition deadline. Would have been cool though!
The guy didn't know how to yous a double bladed weapon, when both blades were activated he still treated it like only one was, he lost do to lack of training in his weapon, the parts where they were fighting with just single blades was good and the effects were outstanding...
+Winston Weaver I know this is like a year late but in Drew Karpyshyn's Bane boo Ka'siim explained that the double bladed was really a mental trick and provided few advantages. So in a way it really was used just to look cool (at leat in the lore).
Well I hate to bring up a soure subject, but Darth Maul used a double bladed lightsaber very effectively and not just as a mind trick to psych out your opponent, and it doesn't look very cool unless you use it in a way that makes it look cool, sure two blades on a lightsaber may be cool, but if you use it like it only has one blade, that doesn't look cool at all and completely underutilizes the second blade...
Cinematography and effects were great, enjoyed the acting as well and I love the location. The swordfight was a bit sloppy though, it looked much cleaner when they werent using the staff. It looked like they good guy got touched by his own staff a few times. Something that I see in a lot of these videos. People forget to treat the staff like something incredibly dangerous to themselves. But other than that this was amazing.
guys. the effects where brilliant, the acting was definitely NOT the worst I've seen... I absolutely loved it!!! I must say though, the choreographing could definitely use some attention, it was no means in any way, appalling but it could use some work. keep it up guys you have a long way ahead of you yet but you are heading down a very promising path. may the force be with you young padawan! XD
the effects were really awesome, well done guys! the choreography was decent, and the acting has room for improvement! but it was great and spectacular to watch!
I'm a little surprised people watching a choreography contest are expecting a story. LCC suggests "Make a story if you want, or just go in fighting." We certainly only hinted at a story to give the setting and environment some context, but it was always just about 2 guys thrashing it out with light sabers which gave us the fun opportunity to mess around with VFX and get out of the house and create something for the pure joy of film making :) It could definitely be way better!
Overall great choreo and vfx, only critique is when the blades clash, theres no exact clash everytime like in the star wars movies, but other than that, great job!
Wow, I was blown away by this one. Usually the comp. videos are good at choreography, story, or fx, but you managed to pull them all off together. I'd love to see a breakdown of some of the visual effects. Anyways, I was completely sold on the choreography and would say this is by far my favorite of the comp. so far. 2 questions: where'd you shoot this and how'd you get Vinnie Jones to play the saber-staff guy?
Really Really good! I loved it! The only things I didn't like were the super jumps and the real time force push. But those slow mo shots of the force and stuff, that really made up for it. You used a very appropriate amount of lens flare, not to much and not to little. One thing I would like to see in all these starwars videos is a little bit of sparks falling off the lightsabers when they clash. Other than that, GREAT JOB!
the whole cinematography is amazing, so is the effects but i feel the saber fight choreography is not up to par compare to all the effects and the cinematography but overall is i think its pretty good. i love the tutaminis thing.
Hoenstly, other than the very small part with the double bladed engaged (could have used work), I thought the choreography and acting was great. A lot of people are saying the single bladed part could have been tightened up. In my opinion it looked extremely natural while still keeping it choreographed, but without LOOKING "choreographed" (again, natural). The camera work was great, moving around and staying unsteady so you saw the power of everything going on. Kind of like Luke vs vader in the original star wars movies. The special effects were EXTREMELY good.
It was a mixture of Video Copilots pro scores pack and Luke Neumanns Teaser and Trailer toolbag packs. Check out Luke, he has some great stuff and is a wonderful film maker himself!
wow this was pretty good and very special effects heavy. i saw that there was a lot borrowed from SWTOR, i feel there could have been a touch more originality. i like there was a reason for the confrontation even though it was very brief. i like a lightsaber battle to have a reason, instead of "hey blue lightsaber im a red lightsaber LETS BATTLE!". it reminds me of why i stop watching and playing Pokemon as a kid.
@Will I Am, I can guarantee you that this isn't just mindless swinging. The 2 fighters wanted to convey the realities of a full contact fight as a opposed to obvious choreo'
Not trying to argue with you man and respect to your dedication to the backstory. All I wanted to do was make an entertaining short film. I was really just referring to Luke going all offensive and going nuts on Darth and chopping off his hand in return of the jedi (not to mention attacking and solely destroying the entire death star and mass murdering all on board lol. But he did have anger issues!

Well done Guys. That's awesome news on winning the people's choice in the lightsaber choreography contest.
This is definitely on my top 5 list! Awesome!
This is great. So many ideas flowing. Thanks for the inspiration, and again, awesome job!
I have to give this one a serious thumbs up. The battle felt heavy, brutal and without mercy.
like how you guys did the whole stopping the light saber with the force thing like the star wars old republic cinematic but made it your own with a slight twist... very well done
The choreography is not exaggerated like the others. I'll rate it 9/10.
Excellent Duel, I'm adding this to my Legendary Lightsaber duels playlist!
Effects were spot on!!! Love them. Wasn't thrilled about the actual dual though. Great job over all!!!

Really impressive cinematography! Not much swordplay going on, but it makes up for it with an amazing show of Force! Well done!
Well I have to say that that was downright badass. The cinematography was brilliant, as were the effects. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!

Very nice. Its cool to see someone really emphasis force powers besides lighting in one of these duels.
Thats some hardcore CG for fan made, thats for sure Bravo!
Excellent job, great location. Well done!
Wow, that was awesome! Amazingly well done visual effects!
gonna need to teach these guys how to "dance" with the blade rather than swinging it like a baseball bat
Thanks! The energy effects were a plugin called fumefx for 3dsmax using multiple passes and variations. The rest was masking in After Effects ad nauseum. Oh the pain of saber roto!
I wanna see more.
I love this; I would watch this as a series.
Seen all the others now, your one certainly has the best lightsaber fight choreography... (as i would expect from you guys) Good luck!!
Epic ending! I love it. Great job.
Thanks Sarah! We had a blast making it :)
AMAZINGLY WELL DONE!!!
Nice use of tutaminis :3 this was the first time I've seen a lightsaber duel using it very nice
along with the expensive looking viz effects (which is good because I assume they weren't.) the choice of location (with the industrial backdrop across the stream there) really lends to the mise-en-scene. complete with solid audio effects. very very good. also, much more bloody than the real films :p
Amazing! This is how it's done!
Really nice. Next time see if you could implement the battle that is happening around them to affect their fight as well.
Overall Enjoyment - I liked it, it was a really cool short film with cool action and impressive special effects, and for a one shot had a pretty good story. Choreography was good, but the effects are the best part of this vid
That was bloody brilliant, id love to see you guys do more stuff like this

Actually some good SGI and finally in fan movie use of the force.
Most of movies are just sensless fighting.
Wow fantastic, I thought it would be cheesy, but it was quite awesome.

Great Piece guys! Loved it.

Over all I was really impressed. The blood was a little too much for me, but the VFX were amazing. Nice job guys.
Wow! This was straight up awesome bro!!!! Great job!!!
Amazing! Please, let me know what general effects you used. Great film! I love it!
WOWOWOW! This was Awesome-it needs more views!
Overall great choreo and vfx, only critique is when the blades clash, theres no exact clash everytime like in the star wars movies, but other than that, great job!

Hi Zac, we filmed this at an old fort in Brisbane. I believe it was establish in the 1940's.
I secede. Excellent entry all around!
Really Really good! I loved it! The only things I didn't like were the super jumps and the real time force push. But those slow mo shots of the force and stuff, that really made up for it. Hi MrRepzion, we filmed this at Fort Lytton Morningside. Good luck with your film. Let us know when its up on RUclips!
I'm really impressed with this and I hope you guys do well, but it felt like the contact between the light sabers was off sometime.
Wild! Some epic work here
the whole cinematography is amazing, so is the effects but i feel the saber fight choreography is not up to par compare to all the effects and the cinematography but overall is i think its pretty good. i love the tutaminis thing.
Awesome!
most awesome job...love the 'colors'
LOVE the fx! well done!
Nice short. It doesshow how the Sith won a lot in the old republic days
Wow, thats all I can say. You guys need to be making features! Rotoing must have taken forever in all those shots!
Hoenstly, other than the very small part with the double bladed engaged (could have used work), I thought the choreography and acting was great. there were a few times that his hands were too close to have any power while using two blades or even the longer hilt.
Brilliant! Winner Here!
Great Job guys, Awesome special effects :P would rather you make the next 3 Starwars Films the Disney :P
Awesome, haha, yet another reason to visit Australia!
well in the movie there are several points where you can see sparks fall off the sabers as they clash.
that was the best mvie scene ever i also luved it because my uncle was in there BOI!!!!!
I don't believe so, although the sets do look quite similar. MI2 was shot in Sydney, we're in Brisbane ;)
Really neat video. Love Your vfx. Very well done, sir :)
That......was badass.
I've always appreciated the bad guys. Never was a good guy supporter. Rockin' out! Awesome job on the video!
Thats so familiar... =) Keep making awesome videos though! I love visuals!
how did you get the lightsabres so good. did you green screen
It was a mixture of Video Copilots pro scores pack and Luke Neumanns Teaser and Trailer toolbag packs. Check out Luke, he has some great stuff and is a wonderful film maker himself!
Really nice! Voted for you right away :)
That was amazing
noticed that there was a saber in there from saber shop, awesome
AWESOME! maybe the acting wasn´t very good but the rest was amazing, good job!
wow! nice work!
wow this was pretty good and very special effects heavy. i saw that there was a lot borrowed from SWTOR, i feel there could have been a touch more originality. i like there was a reason for the confrontation even though it was very brief. i like a lightsaber battle to have a reason, instead of "hey blue lightsaber im a red lightsaber LETS BATTLE!". it reminds me of why i stop watching and playing Pokemon as a kid.
Wow, that was actually pretty darn good! saw you on indie mogul
I'd love to see a full length version!lol
Great work
the technique is called Alter Damage... It's used by Satele Shan
@Will I Am, I can guarantee you that this isn't just mindless swinging. The 2 fighters wanted to convey the realities of a full contact fight as a opposed to obvious choreo'
I am impressed.
What is the official website for the competetion. I have some film friends that might enjoy giving it a go.
You're right; 90% style 10% substance.
nice vfx

really nice fanfilm! :)
It's refreshing to atleast see a double sided that isn't red
Good god, that last part would have hurt so much!
Dang the dude shot a gallon of kook-aid out his mouth with just a jab to the face
Thats because it was a Force punch. He's lucky to have a head!
really great job
What was the music you used? Well done one of the best light saber shorts I have seen thus far!
@kysterama woah have you ever tried just putting a green cover on a lightsaber and greens careening a lightsabre blade in on it
and where was that in the movies? i dont remember that happening.
FORT LYTTON!! I've been there :D
Hey mate, we filmed at Fort Lytton in Brisbane Aus and Vinnie Jones and I study at the same swordsmanship school :P
Thanks for the compliment
sooooooooooooooooo awesome !!!!!!
finally a lightsaber that long and doesn't have a second blade! :)
