.... then the beetles arrived and it changed everything. all fine and good, but i grew up with this music and i too, wish it were still around. the talent was so evident, unlike today's slop.
A small town along a Lake, as Jim Morrison sings, “ Where will be , summer’s almost gone, we have some good times, winter’s coming On”. Del was used to closer to home? His album honest and neat to try and sing along to. Both Lesley and Del sing about constancy in boy & girl relationship, Lesley, “Maybe I know” and. del. “you’d better be strong or you”ll be hurt, hurt, hurt by the little town flirt”. Neat song to row n& s in a boat together?
Leslie and Del. Their songs and music will still be being played in another 50 years. I feel so lucky and privileged to born in the forties and having artists like these in my life.
At the end, when it's time to hit the stratospheric high notes, both Johnny Tillotson and Lesley Gore look at Del with a nope, not even gonna try..Thanks for a treasure of an upload!
On the actual record he goes even higher. I have sung along with Dell's songs since he had his first hit Runaway right up to today, and I'm now 76. His song are timeless. RIP Del.
What does St. Paul's grave warning declare? "9 Don’t you know that those doing such things have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who live immoral lives, who are idol worshipers, adulterers or homosexuals-will have no share in his Kingdom." 1 Corinthians 6:9 (TLB)
Johnny was good friends with Del and good friends with Leslie. This was the American Dream in Japan Tour. The TV producers at the last minute said they had planned for them all performing on stage together and the show was all them. So since they hadn't known ahead of time or hadn't rehearsed anything, it was decided to do Del's song and Johnny and Leslie would just join in. It's a great piece of video to have of them all together.
Had a record player and a few records with sheet music of preceding assignment from music lesson. Mrs. Harper, and our church organist Mrs. Hale gave us a Gold Star if piece played ok. ( Euclid, oHIo )
Johnny Tillotson one of the greatest voices of that era, had so many great songs. Del was excellent, though he didn't have a lot of recordings, it was such a shame he didn't seem to know how well he was thought of.
This is great. I am so glad you posted this. RIP Lesley and Del. Both of you left us way too soon and you will forever be part of the fabric of the golden age of our musical lives. RIP>
Del's voice was a powerhouse....Listen to that Falsetta, at the end, Leslie and Johnnie were in awe of Dels talent, How many people/Rockers could hit that note? Not Many, Del voice was clear as a bell. Beware of Darkness/Depression... really did Del in. I miss you man.
i had the pleasure of meeting del shannon when he performed at a place in edwardsville il called the grainerie,,super nice guy, chatted with him for a bit then enjoyed his performance,,,,this clip is a true classic,,,thank you
Dick Clark organized tours for hard work travelers artist to earn a living. Music seems to be very demanding. yet. soul. shares. before. electricity is too easy? Glad you chatted w Del. I worked under direction of Carol Goldstein in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Lesley Goldstein faith and Carol Goldstein faith for even me to practice.
How interesting to see Leslie Gore in the unaccustomed position of backup singer. The two on the left are so polite, deferring to Del Shannon, and letting him take the lead on his own tune. I lived through the sixties, a bare live wire alert to every musical current, and it’s a thrill to see these heroes again.
You can. Carole King &. Jim McGuinn sing, “ but being young and growing older, is no sin, and I can live life. To Win “. I can recall the time, when I’m not afraid to reach out + to a friend. Now I think I’ve got, a lot more than only my toys to lend.” Challenge what oppresses? Hope me pet kitties don’’t mind a little music practice.
Hav heard Del S. Do this solo but layering these 3 60s iconic voices gives such a richness 2 this song. Its a tragedy that Shannon wound up taking his own life.
I love the way Johnny Tillotson & Lesley Gore at 2:02 have their mikes lowered and are looking at Del during the final falsetto fade out. It's kinda like they were thinking nope!...not even going to try!!!! R.I.P. Del !!!!
Utterly glorious. Del Shannon is my greatest hero. Was so blessed to see him in London decades ago now, and I think Johnny Tillotson too, though not so sure now.
.... then the beetles arrived and it changed everything. all fine and good, but i grew up with this music and i too, wish it were still around. the talent was so evident, unlike today's slop.
Tears down my face. Poor quality, maybe. Poor performance? NEVER Thank you truly for posting. Del was a personal friend and I think of him often.

Me to, we had the best of all the music, from mid 50's to the mid 80's when music died under a pile of rap
You forgot to mention Johnny, one of the greatest voices ever.....

Now Del and Lesley can sing together in Heaven
Man Del really had some pipes! One of the best No Doubt ! his voice was powerful and clear as a bell !
The early 60's was probably the happiest time of my life - and these three stars are a big reason why!!!
Had a record player and a few records with sheet music of preceding assignment from music lesson. Mrs. Harper, and our church organist Mrs. Hale gave us a Gold Star if piece played ok. ( Euclid, oHIo )
I loved how Lesely waited for Del to hit the High note at the end!Great stuff!
Del's voice carried that whole thing. What a gift to still have such a strong voice late in his career. Great performance as ever
I hope you found what you were searching for Del!!!! Such a sad life, my heart cries for him
Looks like Leslie is having alot of fun!
Johnny Tillotson one of the greatest voices of that era, had so many great songs. Del was excellent, though he didn't have a lot of recordings, it was such a shame he didn't seem to know how well he was thought of.
In my opinion del is the best singer that ever lived. I’m so sad that he is gone.
Wow, never thought I'd see these three together. Great find.
Rest in peace Del Johnny and Leslie thanks for all the great music❤️
Johnny is still alive and touring. One of the best!
There's a recording of Runaway from an Australian variety show called Hey Hey It's Saturday. It was the same version from Crime story. Awesome.

He was certainly talented, and more. And Leslie and Johnny were clearly in awe of Del. But he was a haunted man...so very sad...
I truly wish there were better medications for depression without the terrible side effects.
I love this clip. I was lucky enough to see these three greats perform on 3 different occasions. What great artists.
