@@paulwhat322 It means if you felt comfortable during training, it wasn't hard or novel enough. You just did what you can already do. The point is to move forward, to improve. You can't do that by standing still in a comfortable state. If you regularly run 15 miles, then you still get tired at the end of it. But it most certainly won't push you to your limit mentally. Now imagine you're told to only breathe through your nose the whole time, and keep a steady pace from start to finish. Never deviate from this even for a minute while you run. You run the same distance, but it will most certainly be a lot harder. However, it will teach you focus and determination. You will have to be victorious over yourself again and again while you're running when you fight the urge to breathe through your mouth, or to slow down a bit. Now it's not just a physical but a mental exercise as well. You adapt to a new level, you gain tolerance to a new kind of suffering.
@@neemnoa303 I understand what you are saying, but I train to exhaust the body and clear the mind from the daily stresses. And I always feel better at the end of a session. Perhaps I'm not pushing enough. I don't compete so don't feel the need for such extremes.
I really have to hand it to Lex - This 4 hour podcast was one of the most fascinating journeys in conversation I have ever heard. Props to Danaher for being so knowledgeable in so many areas.

I feel that purposeful persistence is the real key. Without the purpose it’s hard to rly get in that next Level of flow for me at least
Absolutely agree. Purposeful persistence means you're struggling past adversity for a valuable goal that's meaningful to you. Plain persistence could just mean you're stupidly stubborn, going towards something and not realizing it's a waste of time bc you never took a second to realize what was the whole point.
So many gems in this podcast but this section has helped me reframe my own idea of persistence.

the same thing can be about work/ a job… i was bored with my work after 3 years decided to pursue a new career because i wasn't improving myself on a daily basis.. work was repetitive and i knew i wasnt learning anything new

@@anoopchirackal8042 it's extremely broad, obvious information. everyone knows you have to incrementally increase your challenges when mastering a skill. i don't have anyone to recommend, sorry. finding good advice on mastery is really hard
