Hey, Capital One! If you wanna learn how to build a computer *for real,* here's my email: marketing@science.studio

This was hard to watch
It’s so messy and bad
SirGeraltMC hahahahahahaha

@@volka2199 lmao i tested it to see if it was a joke or a scam
"Download more RAM"!!! I fell out of my chair when I read your reply LOLOL!
Only works if you're connected via wifi cable though...
How to download more ram? Go to new egg or amazon, download it (buy it) and wait a few days for the software to install because ur internet is crap (that is the delivery by the way) and there, you have your ram.
They disabled comments...wtf
They should thank those people who called them out and correct it with a new video instead.
You're in for disappointment. Crap media like Vurge do illogical stuff like this all the time.
Nah, they're journalists.
Epitome of intelligence. Can never question them.
/s
Yea, of they are gonna spread misinformation, the least they can do is let people correct them. If not, they need to take the video down all together before someone trusts it as a guide to build their new pc.
The way to get Mac loyalists to stay loyal...
Verge's solution to criticism (constructive or otherwise) is to block people and/or disable discussion, followed by a snide comment which cannot be contested (e.g will tweet about someone after blocking them so they can't reply)
Man that video is a prime example of what happens when people lie on their resume.
This is what happens when colleges choose any black person that's available.

I think he was working for Apple before he came here.
My PC costs twice as much and that doesn't make me any better at League than him. Your statement is as incorrect as his PC building skills.
@Dex4Sure That's no excuse. You can spend a week of intensive research to know pretty much everything about pc and building one.
Literally just 1 or 2 build videos is enough to not make these kinds of mistakes.
Why does price affect ability?
Henryk John your pc performance affects your skill to a certain degree. Anyone with a brain would figure it out.
We should report the video as being misleading
Nah man, as torture to pc components
I've done it. He wastes the dual channel and soaks the CPU in paste wtf?
I did it. XD The inside of his case looks like spaghetti.
I did, I suggested they run it by their own it guys to hear first hand how much bad information is in that video and not to just take my word for it.
i reported it.
They deactivated comments and the like to dislike ratio. Top class journalism here folks
The comments weren't just people calling out how wrong this video was but also people being shit and personally attacking that guy.
T El good, he clearly didn’t know how to do some of those things properly. And couldn’t even be bothered to cable manage. I mean that water cooler part had me pulling my hair out.
@@hearthjunkie8173 I agree it was bad but that doesn't give people the right to tell him to kill himself and that they hope he dies. The anonymity of the comment section shouldn't empower you to be a shit person.
T El comments are disabled so didn’t see those. Obviously death threats are a big no no. But everything else in regards to the video and lack of effort is fair and justified.
@@hearthjunkie8173 for sure but I assume you've seen how bad it can get. Criticism is warranted with that video because the advice was pretty bad but it's like people will continue to say the worst kinds of things if they see other similar comments have a high like count.

Well, you know, it *IS* the left wing brainwash cringe platform with a thin veneer of tech content, you can count on them to provide all the cringe you could ever want. Pretty sure 90% of their views are people on a cringe binge.
Can we all appreciate that anti static wristband that isn't grounded anywhere, so it's essentially a PC builders fashion statement.
it's not even an anti-static wristband. it's just a support bracelet. someone must have clued him in that he should be using an anti-static bracelet for the video (not because it's necessary, but because this is supposed to be "serious") and just gave him any bracelet they could have found within the timeframe they needed it.
I just grip the side of the case every so often.
@Grav I do the same, but if you wear a wristband and don't use it correctly, you just look like a fucking dumbass in a PC building instructional video, all credibility is lost.

@@ajfergy5569 If your comment is not sarcasm:
The BIOS is the software which comes with your motherboard. It manages technical settings for your computer, such as clock speeds, boot devices and much, much more.
To enter it, you can generally press DEL or F2 on your keyboard while the first splashscreen shows up when booting your computer (it's usually easier to just spam it until you're in the BIOS), though some motherboards may have different shortcuts for it.
For most people, the BIOS won't serve any purpose, and it's certainly better not to touch anything you're not sure of its functionning, because a bad change in a BIOS can seriously damage your components in certain cases.

How to build a crow's nest with $2000 worth of computer parts!
Crows don't create nest
@@blizzaroxxx They do.
@@vagabondsoul1286 oh ok. I'm sorry
@@blizzaroxxx HAHAHA! You're easily convinced. :D With that much shiny gear, it's more like a magpies nest.
I think the metaphor you're looking for is snakes nest. The metaphor crows nest is used to describe a point so high it is a vantage point to see far. I know this because I live in Crows Nest, Sydney NSW - that's a suburb higher than the surrounding areas of North Sydney. Sailors called the cage atop the masts of their ships crows nests, they would climb to the crows nest to survey the area because it was the highest vantage point. Etymology FTW.
Stefan Etienne is a classic example of a tech journalist that truly knows nothing about what he's talking about. Quite the dilettante that somehow weaseled his way into this job. He also refuses to acknowledge his mistakes! When faced with justified criticism, he claimed we all were just "haters and angry nerds." Proceeds to then brag about how his PC is superior to everyone else's, as if that's a valid point.
So basically your typical diversity hire who keeps failing upwards but actually believes they keep getting shuffled upwards because they have talent instead of coworkers just wanting to rid themselves of him.
Oh it's superior all right.......superior at blowing up in flames
3 years later. yeah :( it's..sad. I knew a "information journalist". He used to be beyond full of shi???. Mistakes made:
- Brings swiss army knife, but uses screwdriver anyway
- Calls cable ties a tweezer
- 'Antistatic' wristband
- Installs mobo into case before cpu
- Installs ram wrongly
- Says it doesn't matter which slot for gpu
- Installs cpu cooler before mobo
- Forgets to install cpu cooler backplate
- Messes up cpu installation by putting the plastic installation helper thing underneath the cpu clamp
- Splooges thermal paste around the outside of the cpu, missing the centre
- Heatsink had thermal paste pad on it already...
- Doesn't put fans on cpu radiator
- Uses wrong screws (the fan screws) for radiator installation
- Plugs in all cables into modular psu, even though he only needs about 3 of them
- Says psu needs to be installed on the damping pads for electrical isolation
- Installs psu so that fan is blowing into back plate of mobo
- Does zero cable management... he forgot to use his 'tweezers'.
- Plays league against bots and is loosing.
Owl He also put the psu in backwards, the fan is suppose to face outward, not in ward. That thing is a fireball waiting to happen.

Claims his new build will run Battlefield V. Tests it with League of Legends.
too much liar
It’s probably because he tried it with battlefield 5 and the FPS sank to the floor and his core temp skyrocketed. And he couldn’t figure out why.
Based on how he built that computer he was probably having heat issues while playing any modern video game. And just to show his pc works he chose a lesser game. His power supply is choked, his cpu cooler is missing fans, his ram probably didn’t work. His NVMe SSD was probably having issues. It’s mindboggling that with all of the employees who seen or edited this video prior to release, not one person said that we shouldn’t post it.
Drexxler 1 he would have twisted it. You want to pull A black kid with a lisps video? ? Ohhhh your fired bro!
@@drexxler138 no, because it's technically in single-channel 8GB since he installed dual-channel memory wrong. You know BF5 need more than single-channel 8GB ram, he probably experienced stutter and frame dropped. This applied to any heavy triple A title.
Anyone notice the CPU cooler is missing a screw?
Yes have to back 3 times to see it
It's definitely gonna make great contact with the CPU and apply the right amount of pressure. This "journalist" is definitely an expert lmao.
I don't think one missing screw on the block will make a shit storm of a difference when a bucket load of thermal was added to the already pre applied...

@@knottymaker5098 lol
Poor guy. Sounds like he was thown into a project way over his head. Still, a majority of his mistakes could have been easily corrected with a day or two of research which it looks like he either didn't do or he chose to ignore.
That's so cruel now that I think about it.
The vast majority of his mistakes could have been corrected by READING the MANUAL that came with the motherboard... it directly tells you where to put things like ram and cables.... I'm guessing that they just grabbed some random who happened to be walking by to be the one in front of the camera and to do it NOW without prep :/
40 minutos watching JayZTwoCents video and it was done
Surely someone in a place that literally reports on technology would know how to build PC's properly lol
Honestly, he should have watched any of Paul, Kyle, Greg, or anyone's "how to build" guide. Research is part of the job. But yes, this it more than just the guy. The whole verge team is at fault.
Aww we missed the bluetooth anti-static wristband
I like how he thinks the anti-static wrist band will "Protect YOU and your computer"...Protect you from what? Does he think it would actually save him from getting electrocuted??????
bro you should always wear your bluetooth anti-static wristband! It's just "good pc building practice" it protects me, my computer and the people around me as well.... it saves us from getting electrocuted every time I turn on the pc! And it's bluetooth so you don't have worry about cables!!
You're the first person to call it Bluetooth and it really killed me
I once had my pc blow up on me!
Computers can be a safety hazard without one y'know
The Verge is more concerned with anti-Semitic wristbands
Vergegate has started. War on fair use.
let the games begin
Not worry about my parts for cyber punk 2077 well that did not age well
The thermal paste sandwich did me in.
I can't believe they pulled this off WITH a major sponsor on the video. What a disaster.
The LEAST they could have done was just look up the 6+ year old Newegg videos and just replicated the process, christ.
Who is the sponsor let's email the sponsor to demonetise them for maximum lulz.
Even of they would have just read the instructions booklet included in the motherboard box, they could have avoided a lot of their errors.
"Presented by Capital One"
Bet they regret that.
No, they only want the stupid customers.. They make minimum payments for life. Thus they make more $$$
I feel bad for this guy. He obviously knows nothing about building pc’s and it seems like they gave him 5 min to study for a final!
They had 12 producers approve the video before releasing it. He also fixed most of the errors before testing it. Could have done a better video showing the fixes.
I don’t think he fixed anything, at the end of the video it still shows the ram in the wrong slots, the fans missing from the radiator and the I believe the PSU was still facing the wrong way.
Don't be. See what he's been doing on twitter. He's incredibly rude and still refuses to admit he did anything wrong.
i dunno, maybe he said he could do it
LMAO. "Tech youtubers are not journalists". Neither is the Verge. The Verge does basically the same thing in a different format but with half the work or accuracy as the major and even semi major tech youtubers.
The Verge has since deleted the video
Ooof
And blamed MUH HORSE MINT, of course.
Blame "toxicity" and "harassment" all they want - some of the advice is amusingly bad sure, but a lot of it is outright dangerous.
If they want to fix this, an update video with someone who knows what they're doing would be appropriate
Lmao comments were even disabled on the video. So the “toxicity” that VERGE experienced was basically just youtubers joking at their ignorance, basically banter. And besides that it was mostly constructive criticism. Smh... this is why VERGE is the worst channel on this site
Thats a good thing. Now they can't confuse people even more when it comes to pc building
They should anyway. It got bad votes, it would cost their channel bad algorithm to appear as recommended videos.
So a new phrase: dude, don't Verge it! Use: when someone is screwing up a new PC build.
Also: dude, you totally Verged your build!
I added to urban dictionary, waiting for reply
KURT LEYBA Absolutely genius.
That build is on the Verge of flames.
you should keep an eye on this video. Vox is copyright striking Criticism videos
This was such a fun video. It was nostalgic in the sense that it reminded me of the first PC I built back in 1995. It looked a lot like the build in this video. Cables everywhere. Screws missing on motherboard mounts. Black PC voodoo myths about short circuiting components. For any newbie PC builder out there, this video is a godsend. Thanks.
Sometimes it makes you wonder how some people get paid to do what they do and there are tons of people who have actual knowledge don't even get a shot.
It's not about "what" you know, it's about "who" you know in the business. If everyone was hired based on their actual knowledge..we would have flying cars that ran on water, and cured all cancer by now.
They seached for a smart looking black Guy to fit there agenda
Helps if you work your ass off too. But don't be a push over or you'll be walked over and taken for granted.
I agree neoasura, I know people like that who don't know jack about building pc's but I'm over here and I can basically build a pc with my eyes closed and make it look good but because I don't know the right people, I didn't Have my shot..
When I had issues with my PC shutting down, the guy in a computer repair shop said my PC was overheating, because I have removed the side panels on my case. He then claimed fans work like air conditioners and that by removing the panels the "cold" air leaves the case and that the "hot" air from my room was entering the case and didn't allow the fans to cool my CPU properly. His college was listening to all this and confirmed it. I just left. I know for a fact these guys were working there for at least 15 years. Imagine how much BS they sold to people who don't know anything about computers.
The problem was with the power supply. I built that PC myself and I could have diagnosed the problem, but I simply don't have spare parts lying around to test stuff.
Not only does the power supply already touch the side of the case, it is also mounted onto the case with METAL SCREWS. I think my computer is gonna blow up any second now.
Actually Jack it is SUPPOSED to touch the case. If anyone has taken the A+ computer repair exam you know that the case is essentially a grounding unit. It touches the outside of the powersupply which uses the third electrical pin to ground. What he did was increase the change of system being fried in a short LOL. Yes an idiot he was
Not to mention the motherboard screws are connected to the power supply's ground rail. And that they're mounted on metal standoffs.
Oh I can just see the sparks.
Jack Le shiieeett!! thanks for telling me bruh! i just put some super glue on that bad boi and it all good now! now i dont have to worry about computer blowing up and shit. whew!! thumbs up for you mate
Don't worry. Just get a tazer, attach it to the side of your case and hold the trigger down. It should cancel out the electricity shorting from your PSU.

@@kozuta8858 share mo lang amo xD fucking hell
Yeh it's not hard mate. not to shoot you down but you're not a tech whizz for doing it. I couldn't be arsed so I just bought my PC but I know people who made theirs at 12, 11 and even one guy who was 10.
"...and go ahead and apply more thermal paste cause Corsair doesn't know what they're doing."
Darcy Cardinal lol it doesn't bother me that he's using too much but mixing two pastes is just not a safe bet. Then the guy doesn't install fans on the radiators. Hopefully vox doesn't ask him to do any heavy lifting with that thing
@@hell_pike9150 He could've used electrically conductive thermal paste. Then using too much would indeed be a problem.
"Let me know if you've built a PC yourself" on a video with disabled comments is just the cherry on the cake.
Comments were disabled because they were filled with nothing but people telling him that they had indeed built a computer themselves
That's pretty much John Campea level of journalism right there
They disabled them because people were spamming thet they dun goofed
it's pretty impressive how that guy did everything wrong..
"Remember to buy Battlefield V, everybody!"

could throw all your parts into a box and toss it down a hillside and it would still be a better assembly than the Verge did
Literally what I thought too! Going uphill tomorrow... gonna get me a new pc by the time it rolls down!
at least the psu wont be backwards with 0 ventilation xd
Sleepy .Time haha I'm dying 😂😂😂
That's how I built mine! 😮😮
Awww man. My case doesn't have any of those pads to stop short circuiting. I should buy a new case immediately!
Its too late, throw the whole thing iut and start over. You dont want to risk having a leaky psu!
Yea, the thing about those short circuit electrical fires is that the flames are invisible. Your house is already on fire and burning to the ground. You're gonna want to just buy a new home.
The short circuit has already entered your pc components and getting a new case won’t fix it. It will just short circuit the new case as well. Best to just throw it all away and start from scratch. Bad luck rip your computer. Also don’t forget to buy a livestrong bracelet when you build the new one.
Power supplies also give off a small amount of electromagnetic radiation. Without those pads, your case is amplifying that radiation to dangerous levels. You should go to a hospital and have a full body scan done.
Your reaction to the power supply safety precaution made me almost spit out my coffee all over my keyboard.
watch out! copyright strike incoming like reviewtechusa
MORE THERMAL PASTE = MORE FPS!
That's a new trend, RGB is so yesterday
puts thermal paste on the ram and graphics card and obviously the ssd/hard drive. would be funny to see someone put thermal paste on the fans and turn them on
your pfp perfectly represents this comment
Yes, but he did it wrong! You're supposed to put some in the socket!
They needed the new RGB thermal paste really, that would have given him at least a 50fps boost if he had half a syringe of it.

Holy cringe....that PSU part killed me
The Ram is what got to me XD
@@KyRonGAMES "I wanna go all out so I'm gonna build a $2000 gaming computer" *doesn't buy the fastest RAM* lol wut? So other people who spend $6K to go all out isn't " going all out"
That PSU part: he talks about having those cushion on the bottom, then he not only misses the part Greg mentioned, but also how big of a static electricity prob it would be to put a CPU AFTER putting in the motherboard. If ur that careful of a mere PSU, why not be careful of something much expensive like CPU?
because he's clearly knows nothing about building a PC
Dude I gotta remove the PSU internals from the casing, it's literally all metal wtf it's gonna short circuit!
Lmao!!!

So, still downvote lol

well...I know that but we don't see 'em 😉
I’m trying to build a pc and I have a stupid question
Can u fill all the 4 RAM slots in the start or do u just do the 2nd and the 4th and upgrade it later?
not all mobos support filled ram slots (weird i know, but i've run into this before) so read the manual and make sure it supports full ram slots. if it says it does then go ahead and try it, but make sure the sticks are identical. i've had system instability by running dissimilar ram sticks. if it's unstable then try running only 1 or two sticks.
@oldfrend thanks
Love the CPU cooler part. I know Corsair, one of the biggest computer part manufacturers, went out of their way to pre-apply thermal paste to the cooler based on their exact design specifications. However, I have built one PC before and Corsair doesn't know what they are talking about.
Why would you skip the most cringey part where he scews in the rad with no fans using the long screws forcing them through the actual fins 😂
you can literally hear him destroying the rad with the screws as he says "this is super simple". so simple he didn't even need to RTFM, apparently.
Technically it would still work if all he does is smash the fins, so he won't learn from this mistake. Given that thermal past application, I doubt he watches Temps of "over clock's" the CPU anyways. I find it funny he mentions overclocking but just plays lol
Ok... Watched the part and holy shit those screw go through the whole radiator... I hope it leaks all over this build, validating the comments they disabled.
@@SteedDigital1 fortunately for them. Most new rads dont have pipes under the screw holes anymore Because people like them are everywhere.
Atleast the video got taken down.
Wait a while till same "journalists" will start pumping articles about video being taken down because of racism. I mean e.g. Linus makes videos about computers everyone likes them, but some black guy assembles a computer and video is heavily disliked and made fun of the guy, this is certainly racism.
Courier well, I dunno man, I think it's not about who is trying to assemble the computer, but it's about what they are talking about and how well they know about the good/bad about it. just my opinion, and it's not about racism.
@@courier7049 This is Certainly stupid... i never heard about this all was made because the dude is black
you are the racist for thinking that was the case
@@courier7049 i think its not racism. If you you how to build properly a pc you will laugh at this too
That's the thing though. SJWs will always find a way to blame something on racism, even if it's absolutely stupid.
Imagine Verge instructing us how to build a Quantum home PC in 2055.
You just might end up getting your home blown up
i got an expressvpn ad before this video, the one where the mom reads the browser history
Me too
"And it supports overclocking". No. Please no. I beg you. Do not attempt overclocking. Or do, for my amusement....
Meko Unknown I tried to overclock my gpu. It was a mess
He should overclock his fans while he's at it too
"So basically, to get more FPS in LoL, I change my ratio to 5.0 I think is the max. Then, it needs more power to run like the cpu, so we give it 3 rather than 1.5v...."
The Verge should overclock anyway, and they can watch their trash have a meltdown...lmao
@Mi Ke "normal specs" is the cookie cutter approach. every processor is different, but they have no incentive to really sit down and pick a best frequency and voltage for everyone single one, they don't even know what the consumer wants or will use, you can make a cpu faster or more efficient, it is a trade off. some people over clock, some under volt. it is almost a guarantee to improve on factory settings, even slightly
You forget the "every PSU comes with a bag of cables". No dude.
Back here in 2022. Still funny AF.
looking at this two years later - still friggin hysterical, but what really got me is that Verge guy talking about Cyberpunk 2077...which is starting to look like it's actual launch year!
"Tech youtubers are not journalist" That was a compliment
@Patriot Cat A smart one. There's going to be a huge demand for good journalists if the current roster sucks balls.
Yeah. That ''journalist'' title means ''I'm just narrate the news / topics to my political beliefs'' in today's world. Idiot people has really ruined the real good journalism that isnt biased.
He didn't mean it that way but that's the way I took it.
Being a journalist meant something real before the internet made it easy for anyone to start a blog.

In my eyes, tech youtubers have more credibility as journalist compared to writers on news outlets like the verge, polygon, ign, etc... It's because literally anything that gets attraction can be published as long as the editor approves it even if it is incredibly stupid.
That's because its nothing more than hipster pandering millennial SJW's that work for The Verge, Polygon, Kotaku, IGN.
