    I like the shape. I played with a lot of lego as a kid.
    There are some very clever ideas.
    And those coffee mats would do well on many bikes. Not as daft as it sounds.
    But so heavy, so complex and so expensive. With my neolithic levels of incompetence I wouldn't ride it anywhere other than firm surfaces. Good firm surfaces.
    But if it's your thing go for it.
    And watch the other manufacturers follow..
    Ride safe 👍

      Had to Google 'neolithic' - nice use of it. We've not ridden it yet but based on the balance of previous generation GS and GSAs, and the new motor in the R1300GS, I suspect the weight would be very well managed when being ridden. I did manage the first exclusive push (lol) and, despite clattering my shins against the engine bars more than once, it was noticably very easy. Good turning circle too.
      Cheers, Michael

      Seen the bike, actually all 4 trims live. On video and pictures I found it strange looking. In the flesh I actually found it pretty cool. The GS has never been a piece of art, more like KTM very easy to spot. But I don´t know a single bike that looks beautiful, so I guess I am a bit weird in that way anyway. Bikes only spark emotions in me because of what they do when you ride them and in modern days the tech that comes with them, since I am an engineer and any kind of technological advancement interests me.

    • @cp4512
      @cp4512 2 месяца назад +2

      @@Wollestar I get your point and this bike may well be right for you. I’m actually also an engineer but the aesthetics do matter to me on things I buy with my heart as much as my head, and for me a motorbike purchase is an emotional purchase not purely a functional one. For example I love the Ducati 916 even though the technology is very outdated and it’s not very comfortable to ride, but it makes me feel absolutely fantastic when I ride it. I do agree with you that the new 1300GSA is technically excellent and probably a very capable bike to go on long trips on.

    Things I don't like
    1 Keyless ignition - easier to steal.
    2 Cast pannier mounts - will break not bend.
    3 Extra piece on engine bars - Is that at shin height? I suspect it's to stop it from rolling over.
    4 Electronic ride height control - cheaper than building a low version, and the customer pays more for it.
    5 Radar - I know its to keep the EU happy, but the hideous boxes should be optional. Why have them if you don't spec the radar option.
    6 No separate brake light - I'm surprised that it passes UK construction and use regulations. Certainly following GS's in bright sunshine, here in Spain, you can't see them brake.
    I sold my 1200GSA in readiness for the new 1300GS coming out and then bought a Triumph.

      That was the case for me with the standard 1300GS. The Adventure looked stange on pictures and videos for me, but I have seen it live already and it looks pretty intersting and not that strange in videos and pictures anymore because of it. I will stick with my standard 1300, because it is the better allrounder for me personally. Would have been the same with the 1250 and 1200. But I understand anyone going with the GSA as well.

    I am probably in the crowd minority and with the reviewers. I actually like the design. It’s distinctive, almost has vibes of the 100GSPD. The regular base GS is pretty boring but this Adv looks interesting. The head light is not that good looking imho because the asymmetry was one of its distinctive features. But the design behind the headlight is cool.
    People like to conflate off-roading and overland travel. The GS Adv was never a true off roader just because of its sheer bulk. But for long distance travel over tarmac, fire roads and small rutted roads, it’s peerless. The low COG, the tank capacity and the clever riding modes will bail you out. The other electronics like height adjustment and ASA are overkill but luckily they are options. The ability to add more carrying options around the bike is also smart. If you want a true off roader BMW should look into an 800cc boxer GS with a 6 gallon tank. That would be the ticket.
    Definitely I am interested in this bike. Fix the headlight and bring the price down a bit BMW. Pls.

I am not asking for Steve Ballmer level excitement, but at least 9 great things? And he can't even get there. (Yes, coffee-mat is a great joke, but seriously?!)

      @writestuffmedia 2 месяца назад +1

      You know what, I take your point. Fair enough. It wasn't meant to come across as inauthentic, obviously. I know what you mean though - and there probably IS a certain amount of 'mmmm, still not actually riding it though, are we?' You can only get so giddy just looking at a bike - and although it IS distinctive and different, and clearly it's festooned with smart tech and engineering solutions, you can only look at it SO many times.
      But we thought it was important to go and have a poke and a prod, to see what it looks like in real life. And all the reactions are honest - I DO think it looks better in the flesh, I DO like it, and I AM excited by the prospect of all those extra places to bolt stuff on. I like all those little bits of functionality. And we already know how it'll feel dynamically because it's the same motor and chassis as the GS. Just more of it.

    Trust me. If BMW builds it, they will come. Once the well-heeled buys the GSA, the rest of you chaps will want to emulate. You will stand in line to sign the dotted line, and in your mind you'll picture something functionally beautiful. And thus, it becomes beautiful.

    Looking forward to your on road review of new GSA

    Actually, I like the looks myself as well. The Adventure model looks a lot better to me than the standard model.
    My question is, how difficult is it to change the oil on the motorcycle? It looks like there’s possibly even more things that need to be removed to change the oil.

    I have to laugh at all the comments about how the bike looks. The 1250 GSA was no Panigale either. I am much more interested in how it performs, and after having ridden the 1300GS, I think the 1300 GSA is going to one incredibly great bike to ride. BMW did an amazing job on the 1300GS, and people have already warmed up to how the GS looks after similar reaction when it was launched.

      Probably because we will look to replace our 1250s in the next few years and after two 1200GSAs and now a 1250GSA the natural progression would be a 1300GSA however with it looking like that I will have to look elsewhere

    • @etdbsub0
      @etdbsub0 2 месяца назад +1

      @@darrenwigington3942 Nah, most of the comments are self convincing ideas for not having to replace their 1200/1250. The ones that are really looking for a replacement bike don’t care so much about aesthetics. Specifically owning a 1200/1250. I mean, how many would give up telelever-boxer-shaft because of the new being “ugly”? The Starbucks riders, the same that criticize the coffee plate of the new GSA?

      Seen the bike live. It looks better in the flesh. They are absolutely right about that. It is not a piece of art, GS never has been. And maybe an unpopular opinion, there is not a single bike that is beautiful. It is a piece of steel, aluminium, plastic and what else. The only thing of interst to me is, how does it ride and what does it offer. That sparks interest and emotions for me. But I am a German engineer, so design loving and "listening to the heart" is not really what you would describe me with, I guess.

      @@Wollestar I have been a Customer of BMW cars and bikes since 1989. Currently I have a 2023 330XI in the Garage. I've had 2 GS and 2 GSA bikes that I've loved all of them. You can see them on my channel. So, I am not some troll or bot. Despite what people say about the 1200 and 1250 GS/GSA, I loved the way they looked and rode. I also had a K1600B in the past. I believe that was a very sexy bike. Currently, I have a 1250RT that I believe it is the best bike on the Road. Due to this new Design philosophy, I will not buy another GS/GSA and actually makes me sad. Also BMW stopped listening to the Customers. Where is the back-lid switches? Where is the dedicated break light? Where is the dedicated Heated Grip and Heated Seat buttons? These people act like they never rode a bike in their lives. They just live in a bubble. Cheers.

    The GS, and especially the GSA, has always provoked a polarised reaction to the design. I remember the furore around the asymmetric headlight on the 1150, and the beak on the 1100. Personally, I loved this from the moment I saw it - yes, it's a shock compared to earlier incarnations but there are elements from the early 100GSPD echoed in the design of the tank, just as Harley echoed it's heritage with the design of the Pan American. Still can't afford one though.

I applaud BMW for the bold choice of styling and I guarantee within the next couple of years, there will be as many of them at the local bike meet as the current version. Do I like the price tag? Hell, no but then I don't like many of the price tags that around for bikes these days, sign of the times and a sign that tech is moving on and R&D is an expensive business.
