I was born in the same month and year as Karl and grew up just down the road from him, some of the characters he talked about from the estate I remember very well but only because he mentioned them! Mad Rita is probably the one I remember best, she used to walk down School Road in Sale screaming at people and herself, she would always wear a pair of Man City socks and push a pram with no baby in it! Oh, happy days LOL! In all seriousness though I always find it interesting on documentaries where narrators talk about old doom gloom and how bad it was growing up in Manchester (and other similar working-class cities) in the 70's and 80's but the truth is I would not change for the world because we were too busy living life without a care in the world and we rarely felt sorry for ourselves! Sure looking back after the fact you can tell we did not have too much compared to others but we never really looked at it like that in the moment!

Here's one. True story, I swear.
I was having a new carpet put down years ago. I was chatting to the fitters about working in people's houses (I used to be in the building game) and we were swapping stories about the odd things you sometimes encounter. One of the fitters went, "You won't believe this... I was fitting a carpet in this house just down the road. No word of a lie, right - this guy had a bastard *_pony_* in his living room! Just standing there!"
I had a funny feeling I knew where this was going...
I closed my eyes and said, through gritted teeth, "Was his name Mike?"
"Yeah! How d'you know? Have you worked in his gaff as well?"
      "Nope. He's my fucking uncle!"
And every time I hear Karl tell the horse story I think, "Yep. I can completely believe that happened..." 😂
PS - I love my insane uncle to bits. He listens to opera while drinking brandy as he unwinds of an evening these days. Not book smart by any stretch (he literally still can't spell his own name properly - gets the 'a' and the 'e' the wrong way around even now, at 70) but one of the funniest, sharpest-witted characters you could hope to meet. 😊

An alright video, but those AI upscaled images are horrible haha, I think using the originals is way better, even if they're lower quality.

#1 in 2006 and it's so still relative and hilarious today and will be for decades to come. Being poor or coming from a broken family sucks, but the world's most interesting people had rough childhoods. Are there any rich people who became funny or just funny people who became rich.

I was genuinely delighted when Karl got a hair transplant - he looked amazing and its the biggest smile on his face ive ever seen, until he sent his girlfriend Suzanne an email with the picture of his new hair, she didnt answer as it was late at night, he went to bed happy, woke up to an email from Suzanne saying she hated it. Looked stupid on him. Was such ashame. Its on youtube BTW. Karl gets a hair transplant. ❤

Yeah it'll be on RUclips. It's not from the podcast (most of the animated series uses these), it's from the XFM show. It's also on Spotify. He mentioned it several times. Suzanne came home with a new haircut and he said she looked like Dave Hill from Slade, lol

I have said it before and I will say it again - I can totally picture Ricky at Karl's funeral bursting and wailing out in laughter... Karl is absolutely deadpan hilarious. So intelligent and rational on such a wholesome and organic level.
