Karl was always on point. I understand as do many others what the point he is trying to convey. Never gets enough credit and was shot down a lot, but over time people love Karl even more. Don't get me wrong Ricky is a legend for his sitcoms and Netflix shows, but Karl is next level.
Oh stop, always on point? He just rambled vaguely about stuff he'd read on ananova. 99% of the time Ricky was right to have a go. These revisionist Karl fanboys are the worst. Acting like he's some visionary philosopher. Karl's ramblings would have been unlistenable without Ricky and Steve's input, hence why he was working a dead end job until Ricky took him under his wing.
@@BostonCycling_ I remember listening to K-man-Pilkers talk about this for the first time and yes, I could understand what he was imagining. The moment when Karl is leading into his theories of alternative birth/life running backwards, and you know you're in for some absolute mad lad bollocks.
Karl is correct about there being snobbery in education. Even with teachers concerning students. I have seen bright students overlooked by teachers, simply because they were from a lower class family. And I have seen trained or educated folks, have their knowledge disdained, because they have 'working class knowledge', and are not trained in history, science, literature or the classical arts. They can be a genius as a plumber or electrician, but the rest of society doesn't really recognize their talent or intelligence. But if they were a very successful doctor or scientist, or a famous writer or actor... they are recorded in history. This is a form of knowledge snobbery. And yet... who do you call, when you have a major electrical or plumbing emergency? Most folks couldn't safely fix a major job in plumbing or wiring. Just like with a serious medical situation, where you go to a doctor or hospital... you seek out the professional electrician or plumber. Knowledge snobbery is real.
I can kind of relate to Karl there were many years where I would wake up first thing Christmas morning as a kid and just immediately barf. I would literally get so excited that it would make me vomit because of all the suspense and anticipation. My dad still makes fun of me for it.
The whole conversation about chips in our brains around 51:59 is ironic because they’re having the hardest time understanding the simple question that Karl is proposing while acting like HE’s the idiot. It’s such a simple and basic thing Karl is asking and they’re completely missing his point.
The Christmas computer story gets me every time. The ZX Spectrum was a decent games machine, for what it was. He could have kept playing new games on it for another 7-8 years. The ZX81 was a snooze by comparison. Nothing for games. Don't even think it could take a joystick. It was cheap though.

Funny. When Karl is talking about University Challenge and his “Egg” tactic, Ricky mentions “Andy Lincoln” on “This life.” That’s Andrew Lincoln. Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead. Geez. Now that I typed it all out it occurs to me… that’s not interesting at all.
Interesting the two University Graduates pour scorn on Karl's baby breeding control comments, when at the time of broadcast (2010) they knew 1 billion people in China were subject to the "one child policy"! Comedic effect has limits when the educated are not street wise like Karl. Gervais fails to grasp the concept of CB radio which has a limited broadcast range within a few miles 🤔 and not internationally. You won't find Karl spending £250 on Xmas crackers, he has his feet firmly on terra firma with a knowledge that was gained from an enjoyable childhood and adolescence that led to his fruitful career path.
Karl's observations about brain chips are chillingly prescient. This is exactly what the likes of Yuval Noah Harari, Elon Musk and Ray Kurzweil talk about. Let's be honest: most people are already living in an artificially simulated reality, by virtue of their smartphones. VR goggles are just an extension of the same principle.
