Ah if! Only Donald Curry did infact move up to the 154 lb Junior Middleweight Division instead of hanging around for another one more tittle defences against Britain’s Lloyd Honeyghan where he would loose his tittle to the Jamaican born Briton in Sept of 86.

Yep. Although I believe a prime Curry would have beaten a prime Honeyghan, we’ll never know. He was brilliant for a few years. Fantastic amateur who was robbed of the chance to fight for an Olympic medal. Although he was undisputed welterweight champion, I don’t think he ever reached his potential. Deservedly in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Had he moved up and kept his original manager, he would have went on to become undisputed Light middleweight champ, then probably a middleweight champ but not undisputed (prolly could have gained a wbc or wba/ibf belt)

Curry was loaded with talent, but he couldn't dedicate himself to the sport.

...and then he (Curry) ran into a peak Lloyd Honeyghan, in his next (and last defence) who he criminally underestimated, struggled to retain his strength because of having to lose too much weight too quickly and never got back to where he once was. Hindsight is 20/20, but this really should have been his last fight at welterweight; he stills looks relatively sharp here, and to take nothing away from Honeyghan (as he would have had a great chance of beating even a prime Curry), he left most of his sharpness and ferocity in training camp, for the Honeygham fight, and paid heavily for it. He was as much mentally, as physically beaten in the Honeyghan fight and was never the same again.

Honeyghan was just a strong club fighter who caught Curry on a bad night
