Quel swing !!! A cette époque il y avait deux groupes vocaux réputés, le Golden Gate Quartet, plus gospel et les Deltas Rhythm Boys plus jazz....les deux étaient fantastiques de mise en place,, de swing et de décontraction....superbe
@@zanohoriamazo1 Now, the question becomes, HOW did he die "tragically"? No hang ups about masculinity here. This is really a woman's song. "Shiny stockings" on LeBron James? Are you crazy?
@@jayyoung4534 Yeah, Shiny Stockings basically about a woman. It was written by the great tenor sax man, composer, arranger, & 1st to take over as leader of the Basie band after the ‘Count’s’ passing, Frank Foster. It was a hit by the band, & males often played songs that may have originally been written for women just because the melodies & songs were great to play & improv solos on. Herbie Coleman married Susan here in the states before moving to France, where their 4 children were born & raised. One night on break on a gig, Herbie stepped into the outdoor backyard of the club, to get some air, have a smoke. To his surprise was a drunken man with a gun, playing ‘Russian roulette’ with himself. As Herbie approached the guy to try & convince him not to do that, the man spun the revolver, pointed at Herbie & the gun went off.
@@zanohoriamazo1 I am so sorry. Fate can be so cruel. To think but for that act of kindness, he'd have lived out his life. What became of the four children? Now switching the conversation to a different topic, the news I thought I had read about Billie Holiday is that Switzerland offered her citizenship, since it was felt that black Americans would never be assimilated into the mainstream. Fact check, please. Since I've opened my mouth, let me say this. Is there such a thing as music "fitting" an entertainer as a suit/dress fits? "Shiny Stockings," at least to me, was soooo right for Ella.
I'm 83 and grew up with swing and all forms of Jazz. About 1955 I bought a 10in L.P. of "The Boys" doing all the great standards. I literally wore it out. I have tried to find it on Apple music to no avail. But I still sing the baritone parts to many of them.
I was impressed with the first couple of verses. 4 voices in unison, in syncopated and swing phrasing. That's a lot of vox practice. Thanks for all the hard work, fellas.
He certainly didn't miss "happy hour" at the local bar. Really sad actually. I don't know if he was too far from them and couldn't hear? Or maybe the drums were recorded later? Thats no excuse though...
Those silk shiny stockings That I wear when I'm with you I wear 'cause you told me That you dig that crazy hue Do we feel the romance When we go to the dance Oh no, you take a glance At those shiny stockings Then came along some chick With great big stockings, too When you changed your mind about me Why, I never knew I guess I'll have to find A new, a new kind A guy who digs my shiny stockings, too Then came along some chick With great big stockings, too When you changed your mind about me Why, I never knew I guess I'll have to find A new, a new kind A guy who digs my shiny stockings, too A new guy who digs my shiny stockings, too
Lyrics Shiny Stockings (Jon Hendricks/ Frank Foster) I walk with my baby And I know in nothing flat She's got something mellow Lots of fellows whistle at When we go for a walk I know soon as we're out With no shadow of doubt She's got lots to be proud of. I'm hip, I'm lucky to have Someone so endowed; A girl half as lovely would made Lots of fellows proud I love all of her charms But one's really a ball: I love those shiny stockings most of all She's fine: yes, my baby is fine. And she's all mine. What a lucky guy am I? I'm prouder than can be. That she only digs me 'Cause anyone can see. She's a real sensation. Year, one thing certain I know, I love her so. And I'll never let her go. I'm crazy 'bout her charms, But one is a really ball: I love those shiny stocking best of all. Then shiny stockings, Just looking thrills me, That sight fulfills me. My girl stays in fashion, But she'll really arouse my passion, When she wears those shiny stockings she wears. Then shiny stockings: Just digging gets me, That sight upsets me, Make no bones about them I'm no good without them, Cause I love those shiny stockings, yes, I do. Yes, I love those shiny stockings really, I do. Yes, I do; truly I do---Year!
These four gentlemen are TALENTED!! What else remains to be said? Now, how can I stop listening to them?

What terrific voices and such great harmony; a wonderful version of a lovely song.
I love this song by these talented guys, so rhythmic and such a nostalgic recollection.
Thanks so much for posting this. The one who had the solo, 2nd from left, is my cousin, the late Herbie Coleman. They lived in Paris.
It's likely they had a better life in France than was possible in the USA, even today.
@@IndependentBear Yes indeed. That was the reason they moved there. Unfortunately, cousin Herbie died tragically, too young.

THESE men are good singers. It's a good arrangement and performed very, very well.
EXCELLENT performance! Thanks a lot, Austin! I have the audio recording.
Eu ouvi Shiny Stockins pela primeira vez com Dee Dee Bridwater e a orquestra do Carnegie Hall 1994. Coisa mais linda.
A Class act with a class performance.
What a voice
Maybe the best DRBs performance available on video. Wish there were more available!
This is great Austin . Thanks
Very nice
Yeh, that’s the way to do it - timeless.
Man that was great. I’m ashamed I’ve never heard of these guys.

where can I find this full concert?
Can anybody share lyrics of this great song.
Those silk shiny stockings
That I wear when I'm with you
I wear 'cause you told me
That you dig that crazy hue
Do we feel the romance
When we go to the dance
Oh no, you take a glance
At those shiny stockings
Then came along some chick
With great big stockings, too
When you changed your mind about me
Why, I never knew
I guess I'll have to find
A new, a new kind
A guy who digs my shiny stockings, too
Then came along some chick
With great big stockings, too
When you changed your mind about me
Why, I never knew
I guess I'll have to find
A new, a new kind
A guy who digs my shiny stockings, too
A new guy who digs my shiny stockings, too
@@Debukochi That’s Ella Fitzgerald’s version. The song has two versions.

That she only digs me
'Cause anyone can see.
She's a real sensation.

I love her so.
And I'll never let her go.
I'm crazy 'bout her charms,
But one is a really ball:
