For power users... Put a steel ball in the nose and replace wings with parachute. A cool mode would be strobe. I am also reminded by another youtuber who made super capacitor powered prop rockets. Loads of possibilities for a fun toy.
I'll be posting the files soon. Been a busy week. They do helicopter down. One of the ideas for a future version is to have the wings folded back for the flight up to reduce air resistance and go higher, and have a small actuator to pull the props out for the flight down. The biggest reason they break (I've broken all of them now) is that the wings tear and then don’t work on the way down and it drops like a rock.
Great video!! I love seeing functional resin projects that use tough/flexible resins. I have an MK3S and recently got a Saturn, and flexible prints are exciting on both machines. Would also love to see a video on your Xbox controller mod - I'm interested in tiny electronics and how to incorporate them in DIY projects :)
Love your videos, instant subscribe, I loved the robot that did the painting; first channel I found that is equal in quality to "stuff made here", can't wait to see what you build next
@@Nerdtronic I'm an electrical engineer by training and a software engineer by profession and I still can't build that painting robot, really what I admire in you is your competence, Shane is just amazing, but I don't think the gap between the two of you is large. Anyway, I appreciate the reply and eager to see what you build next (if you do)
I don't know if anyone else said it, but I will, I'd love to see a video on controller mods. If you're taking suggestions, I'd love to see you 3D print a shell and make all the internals for a custom controller.
Thanks. The tip is printed as a seperate piece. So that is possible. I considered making the tip out of resione. But honeslty what makes them break is falling too fast because the wings get broken.
The velum I found wasn’t thick enough. Too floppy. I tried Mylar paper but the laser wouldn’t cut it. It just melted and then fused back together. Even the photo paper was getting melty by the laser and would stick to the board underneath.
It sort of does because the acceleration changes at that point. So it turns white for a second. It’s weird because the accelerometer doesn’t give you speed but changes in speed. So you could probably track speed from that mathematically from that. But also it’s hard to see changes in the light 150 feet up. I do have an idea of what to do with 2.0 though. I could have the wings be folded in on the up flight so it’ll go higher. Then fold out when it reaches the highest point.
Will do. It's to keep my GTA character awake for farming cash. It'll prob be 2-3 months. I have a bunch of other videos on deck. So make sure to sub and hit the bell so you'll be notified. 😁

Best comment ever 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 !!!
4:12 lol fantastic punchline, amazing delivery
Ok.. how many of you got the Six Million Dollar Man reference?
So no one 🤣😂
Nope, what's six million dollar man? ^^
0:58 that's cause I wasn't watching yet🤖
You can add a small piezoelectric speaker to it, detect the launch with the accelerometer, and play some cool rocket sound!
Great idea.
Amazing project. The voiceovers and the rule of three's in the "flying tampons" bit was funny af
Thanks! Not many people appreciated it according the to view count.

Count me in on the hack.
I don’t even own an Xbox but I want more of your content as it’s always SO GOOD!
Wow thanks!
combining two of my favorite things, 3d printing and microcontrollers. and what guy doesn't like rockets; even simulated ones.

I've seen that video. His has A LOT more views than mine.
@@Nerdtronic You get there. I was just thinking when watching. It needs more hang-time. But that would put it out of reach for kids.
Astounding maker skills, what a redesign!
Very kind. Thanks for watching!
Very kool. Looks like the kids really enjoyed it.
Thanks.. yeah they're pretty fun.
If everyone could use these instead of fireworks, the world would be a better place !
you balance technical with fun really well. subbed
I'd love the files! Maybe a future hack, make the props spin, helicopter style, on the way back to Earth for a longer duration light display

@@djkrztoff I just posted them on pateron for free. Yu don't have to sub me there to download them: www.patreon.com/posts/night-rockts-stl-85955163

Thanks! I’m no electrical engineer but can hack something together ok. I’ll try to get that video out later this year.
Amazing stuff man, everyone can tell this channel will have a few million just like all the other just as amazing channels have.
Thanks. From your lips man!
You could use your laser cutter to score the fold lines. Also it seems like you need to make the launcher better too!

Wow that’s a real compliment. Thanks!
Great video! That resin looks really interesting for lots of different projects.
Thanks Robert. Yeah it's interesting stuff. It's pretty soft. Then as it cures it toughens up and hardens.
Two best RUclipsrs right here. You and Nerdtronic are both amazing.

Just found your channel, such quality video production! Good work.
Crazy projects, can't wait to see more
Thanks. More are coming.
Really cool!
Thanks!
you must be the best father ... keep up the good work I’m subbing!!!!
Wow thanks!
Cut the wings from a polymer sheet, and they should be much tougher than paper.
Awesome project and such a professional video! You've outdone yourself this time. The circuit animations are awesome too!
Thanks! Yeah it was fun to make.
I love these and so tough. They would probably last forever if they landed on grass.
Best dad award goes to you
Ahh thanks!
very cool project, and well explained!
Thanks! And thanks for being a supporter of the channel.
This is a great project but even better video
Wow thanks!
Great!!!
Now all it needs is a screamer speaker
The generic ones do whistle when they fly up. I tried to engineer mine to but that would need a lot more R&D.
Now you need an air cannon to launch them!
That’s so freakin cool!
Thanks!
I'mma need that controller hack video
Looks like the wings are a problem when climbing up. What about a V.2 with printed wings that are deployed only when the rocket is falling?
It's a good idea. I did think about it.
Have you considered using a styrofoam nose cone to absorb impact on touchdown?
This is the comment I was looking for. Hot glue gun and two seconds of cutting to save all of it.
I know I'm late to the party, but if you glue a foam ear plug to the tip, it would probably last longer.
The X Box controller mod peaked my interest! Please share!
+1 for that video. Thanks!
Really cool project! Maybe adding a really flexible/soft tip could help even more.
Thanks. The tip is printed as a seperate piece. So that is possible. I considered making the tip out of resione. But honeslty what makes them break is falling too fast because the wings get broken.
The algorithm has been doing you and me dirty, how am i just hearing about your channel.
I'm a late bloomer I guess. I loved this video and still feel it's one of my best videso, but youtube did not care for it. No love.
I love those things. #1 item we always bring camping. Never thought to make my own. I wonder how a more vellum plastic would work for the wings
The velum I found wasn’t thick enough. Too floppy. I tried Mylar paper but the laser wouldn’t cut it. It just melted and then fused back together. Even the photo paper was getting melty by the laser and would stick to the board underneath.
@@Nerdtronic good to know. Thanx
Need heavy duty slingshot and larger wings!
now we need to see them with slightly better wings and dropped from a high building / bridge / crop duster
Or tossed out of a helicopter like turkeys on Thanksgiving.
@@Nerdtronic how many got THAT reference? 🤣
Awesome! This is a great little project! :)
Thank you! 😊
Amazing project! I would love to have the file(s). Looked everywhere. Please advise.
I’ll try to post them somewhere later this week.
Yes +1 to the controller hack
Seems to be a trend
amazing redesign keep it up
Thanks, will do! My next video is a huge robot I've been working on for 6 months. So keep tuned for that. Prob a month out though.
19 modes. Because anything worth doing is worth overdoing. LoL
Absolutely! Thanks for the watch.
Awesome job man!!
Thanks! - Now tell 100k of your friends. 😂
Haha, this is awesome
Thanks friend.
when i print with tough i didnt have that issue at all. interesting.
Did have the flexing? Depends on how thick the wall is. These are purposely printed thin to be light weight.
1/4 black sent me here.
Cool! uhh..I actually don't know what that means. 🤣
What about a TPU nose cone?
I have a rubber resin that would also work.
Little bitsss
Very nice and very interesting, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Cool project!
Thanks!
Would love to see a video on the xbox controller hack!
how about adding an accelerometer function to flash ( or do something) at the highest point .
@@Nerdtronic you could also calculate height and speed based on time of acceleration etc
I'm really interested to see the xbox controller hack, it sounds neat!
Well, I can't lie. RUclips algorithm works well. Look where it got me.
Haha thanks for watching!
Heck yeah to the Xbox controller hack!!
They look fun8-) I wonder if additional weight at the tips of the wings would make them deploy later and wider on decent, giving a longer flight?
Probably. I reduced the weight of these after my first version of them. From about 18 grams down to 12. More weight in the tip would probably work.
i would love to see the xbox controller back as a video
I'll keep it in mind. It'll be a few months. I have a bunch of other projects on deck.
Release the kranken
I'll work on publishing the plans. They could use some modifications before going public. The way that the buttons are held in place isn't the best.
You’re supposed to catch them…
Ha! It's harder than it looks.
Nah, i like flying tampons better. just has a ring to it.
I bet if I put Flying Tampons on the thumbnail instead of "Night Rockets" it would get a lot moew views. 😂🤣
Video about the Xbox controller, please 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I need to redo that xbox project anyway. My controller hack stopped working recently.
I'd like to see what the Xbox controller hack was all about.
I did it to perform a specific task. To help farm cash in GTA. It keeps the player alive by rotating the view and randomly pausing the rotation.
Show us the Xbox controller hack.

xbox controller hack video please!
Xbox video sounds fun :)
Thanks.. noted. Will add it to the queue.
please make xbox video
I'll think about it. If I do patreon or memberships this would be good content for that.
Xboxxxxx
Yeah I'm seeing that people want this but I'm not sure how to make a 15 min video out of it. I'll continue to give it some thought.
That's really cool, now you need to make an air compressor launcher to get some real height. Then a GPS locator to find them.
Maybe for V2 I'll make one that shoots up and explodes into 100 falling LEDs.
We all still want that xbox controller mod video!!!
I’ll have to make a new one since the Xbox controller changed. Mine was for the previous version of the controller. I’ll see if I can make it happen.
@@Nerdtronic I appreciate that! I'll keep an eye out! Love your vids!
