the concept was "he had no buyback" and he was dying and if he dies and enemy pushes(which they did), he cannot be there to provide the hits/defend
    * you cannot sell any items you have while dead
    * you cannot sell any items if you are not close to a shop
and on top of all the macro things he had done. there was one other concept missing.
"he was building butterfly(core item) which is only missing 1 piece which is worth 900 gold"
when he was dying he was thinking if he has enough gold for buyback : the answer is no
he had 1k, does he buy the 900 gold item to complete the core item : the is answer is no (in which most people even in high level gameplay they will fumble and just buy the item before dying, coz dying will cost you gold aswell)
while thinking of those, he was trying to finish the creeps while running away, he was macroing an illusion, selling an item, checking if the gold was enough for him to buyback.
and he had to do it in just 1-2 seconds.
the best part about this story is that no one knew about it until the event was done. Some people on reddit posted about it as no one noticed it, not the pro players, not the casters. not even the very team itself. He just did it and thinking maybe it was just a normal day for him to do that. He wasn't even bragging about it. he just said "I got buyback. Sold some sh*t."

The TI8 run was like a movie; the team was torn apart a little over two months before TI and had to rebuild. n0tail was washed, ceb hadn't played in years, ana was a young kid that choked under the pressure, topson was a high level pub player whose weird hero picks and item builds weren't supposed to work in tier 1. They had comeback after comeback against the best teams in the world, including a massive 25 to 7 kill differential, and thousands and thousands of gold deficit in game 5 of the grand final against a monstrously stacked Chinese team, and they overcame it all. Best and closest TI ever. The story and drama. The best friend betrayal. The team rebuilding. The unknown pubstar topson. The pro scene comeback of ana. The crawl from open qualis to close qualis to securing a spot. Fighting their way in groupstage to securing upper bracket. Going against rival EG with your 2 old teammates in which 1 is your best friend and winning the series with emotions high. Going against the favorites and surely the giants in psg.lgd and somehow upsetting the series. Then once again fighting for the aegis with that same giant in which are more prepared and compose. From making a comeback in that game 4 to even the series with clutch plays after plays then somewhat making another amazing comeback at game 5 after a team wipe at bottom lane in which ana made another clutch play by survivng with a TP to base before the curse killed him. Such a wonderful TI and series. OG really has a story to tell. That roster has their own individual story and them coming together was written in the stars. What a team.

Best thing about breaking down that play was that they never got to interview ana about it, ask him what was going through his mind at the time or whatsoever. We just have to live with the fact that he did it, it went well for them and we can only assume whatever he was going through during the game 😂

I am not making an attempt to take anything away from Ana, but it needs to be mentioned how much of a positive influence Ceb/FuckingMad was for his team.

Without Ceb (strategic core), Notail (emotional ground), and RoRo (their psychologist), Ana who's seen as mentally fragile could've broken down, and Topson could've been Flopson on his first(!) tournament.

    • @lyonvensa
      @lyonvensa 2 месяца назад +1

So true. As much as I hate Ceb ever since TI9, no one can deny the massive impact he has in building his team, particularly the younger Ana and Topson ever since he was OG's coach

OG remains the only team in DOTA, the only team in Esports, to win a 5 game series and a championship despite losing every game. I was there. There was never a second at any point in the finals the crowd felt they were winning. This play with the most obvious, but it wasn't the only time it looked like OG had just lost the game but then something no one really understood happened that kept them in it. People were leaving their seats because the game was over, only to have it go on another 20 minutes and OG turn it around.
It was like watching a CS:GO match where every map started 15-0, but the final score was 17-19, 16-0, 16-0, 17-19, 17-19. Just unbelievable.

The TI8 run was something that will probably never happen again. Team that was pretty much deemed to be one of the teams who doesn't get to play on the main stage to going on to win it all... A team with a failed carry in Ana and a weird dude from Finland as they mid lancer, basically two of the most key roles in the end game. It was incredible and beautiful. It was a great time to be a Dota fan!

TI8 and TI9 were the best years of DoTA in terms of storyline. The dominance, downfall, betrayal, rebuild, cinderalla, greatest finals of TI history, and the whole team returning from a break just to win another TI was magical to say the least.
