    for the last few years I have been stuck with a core 2 quad and a CPU like an i7 6th or 7th gen would have been a dream upgrade to me but then Amd woke up the competition and i ended up with a 10th gen i5 with more cores and threads as an upgrade for an unimaginable price, it's awesome seeing a modern i3 outperforming what was once a high end chip while being cheap and efficient.. Sort of.... on a cheap motherboard after PL2 expired, sure. On better boards you could sidestep the 90 second PL2 timelimit or use a program called Throttlestop. At stock the 7700k would clock to 4.4ghz on all cores, 4.5ghz with MCE enabled.
      I had a 7700k for a brief time, and I was able to push it to 5.2ghz at 1.375v, -2 AVX, after I delidded it. I could get it to 5.3ghz at 1.45v but that's too much juice for 24/7 use. That's way better than the 6700k I had beforehand that could do 4.7ghz safely.

    I wish you did this test with the 7700k running at 4.1Ghz so we can see the IPC difference. That's the most important thing when comparing different generations. There are plenty of 12th and 13th gen chips that also run at 5Ghz, but the raw performance at the same clock speed tells a more interesting story.

    • @SoranPryde
      @SoranPryde Год назад +3

      Many 7700K owners would have been enthusiasts who cranked it up to 5Ghz on a Z170 or Z270 motherboard, and some of them would have delidded the 7700K to help that along
      The i3 12100 is winning here not only because of the IPC difference, it is also due to the L2 and L3 cache size (12100 has 5M L2 and 12M L3 cache. 7700K has 1MB L2 and 8MB L3 cache)

    • @darkl3ad3r

      @@SoranPryde yeah I realize that. But also not all 7700k can do 5Ghz+. I delidded mine and could only achieve a perfectly stable 4.8Ghz. Either way clock speed is a pretty irrelevant metric when comparing CPUs these days, IPC is king.

      i had an i5 4430 with an overclocked 960 4gb and also 16 gb of ram. it ran like a charm. years later a friend gave me his i5 7500 so i bought a new motherboard and ram but little did i know that 4c/4t at that IPC was nothing to pair some more powerful gpu with. When i got a 2070 super some years after that, things ran slower than they used to because i had the worst cpu bottleneck of all times. I was very lucky a family member wanted to get rid of his 4790k motherboard combo so i took this and it was fine until i got my new cpu. So what i want to say is: i LOVE haswell cpu's and if they're paired with the right GPU they're awesome BUT. please consider to at least upgrade to a haswell or devils canyon CPU with 4c/8t if you want to upgrade your gpu to something more powerful.

    i5-7600k vs i3-1200f please.
    This will show how poorly the 7th Gen i5's (or 8th/9th Gen i3's) with 4c/4t have aged.
    I got an absolute ton of miles out of my 2600k and 3770k. When I overclocked these chips, they could narrow the gap with the 6th and 7th Gen i7's and beat the same Gen i3's.

      @@Viggen66 An overclocked HEDT Ivy Bridge-E CPU like the 4930k or the E5-1680 v2 can keep up with modern games, but the Mainstream processors like the 2600k and 3770k are on the brink of obsolescence. Even the overclocked Xeon falls short of an overclocked 8700k.
      I got lucky and bought an RTX 3070 a couple months after it was released. For fun I tried it with my 3770k, i5-6600k, Xeon 1680 v2, and my 8700k. The framerates got hammered with the 3770k and 6600k, even when both were overclocked.
      You can run most games and get an acceptable framerate with the 3770k and a card like the GTX 1070, but in some games it will struggle to get 45fps and the frametimes + framerate drops aren't great.
      Yes, Sandy Bridge might have been a big step forward for Intel, but Intel still managed to slowly claw away at improvements with IPC, clocks, Uncore/Cache speeds, and RAM. That and modern games are using more than 8 threads.

      Shouldn't make much difference really. It's only ddr5 5200, barely above the standard 4800. It's not ddr 6400, the cas is 38 not the expensive 30 stuff. The ddr4 often has an edge with lower latencies in gaming. 2x16gb in ddr4 is more likely to be dual rank vs 2x16gb in ddr5 which isn't. Pretty sure dual rank ddr5 doesn't happen unless you're using 4x8gb or 2x32gb. So there's a chance the ddr4 has an even better chance against the ddr5 here.

      I did, but he (Testing Games) and other youtubers have compared both DDR4-3600 and DDR5-5200 have compared these 2 speeds a MILLION TIMES already and the results are small. If you want to see an unfair comparison, then look for DDR4-3200 or 3600 against lowered cas latency DDR5-6000 or higher, and even then the results won't be that impressive for DDR5.

    people raving about how the i3 is faster and more efficient .... yea after 5 years ? it better be.... and when you look at frame time graphs the i3 stutters much more than the i7 so if i had to pick id say i7 still better experience overall. That is sad seeing how the 7700k was a BAD chip from the start(bassically a copy of 6700k) :/ im getting only 5-10C higher temperatures on my i9 10850k 10c20t at @4.8ghz as i did on my (delidded) i7 7700k @4.8ghz. keep in mind thats 220watts compared to 90watts and on the same cooler.
